Mixed martial arts record from Sherdog |
Brian Foster (born April 4, 1984) is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the welterweight division.
Mixed martial arts
Foster started his professional MMA career in 2006, after his brother died. In an interview with FightLockdown, Foster stated that "Martial arts have changed me, it's made me a more humble and respectful individual. My brother’s death did make me a very angry person, so very shortly after it happened, I started training and used the physical stress of training to cancel out the emotional pain caused by his death. I like to think he is very proud of what I have accomplished since his passing [...] I take a photo of my Brother with me to every fight.”[1]
Foster got his start fighting for the Masters of the Cage company. Foster fought six times for the promotion and went 4–2. He won eight straight before losing to future TUF winner, Diego Brandao. Foster bounced back and won three more before getting signed by the UFC.
UFC
At UFC 103, Foster was set to make his debut against highly regarded Englishman, Paul Daley. Daley stepped in for Mike Swick who was scheduled to face Martin Kampmann, leaving Foster without an opponent. Instead of Daley, he ended up fighting Rick Story, losing via submission in the second round due to an arm-triangle choke.[2]
At UFC 106 on November 21, 2009 Foster defeated Brock Larson by TKO (strikes) in the second round after taking an illegal kick to the head and an illegal knee to the head in the first round.[3]
Foster stepped in for an injured Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 110 to face Chris Lytle.[4] Foster lost due to a kneebar submission in the first round.
Foster next faced Forrest Petz on September 15, 2010 at UFC Fight Night 22.[5] Foster defeated Petz in the first round by TKO.
Foster then faced Matt Brown at UFC 123, replacing an injured Rory MacDonald.[6] Foster won the fight by submission (guillotine choke) at 2:11 of the second round.
Foster was expected to face Sean Pierson on April 30, 2011 at UFC 129. [7] However, Foster was forced out of the bout after a pre fight physical showed that he had suffered a brain hemorrhage and would be sidelined.[8] Shortly after successful brain surgery, Foster suffered yet another setback in his MMA career; an inadvertent groin strike sustained during training burst a testicle, leaving him sidelined again.
Post UFC
Now fully recovered, Foster's next fight was against Jack Mason at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 44.[9] Foster won the fight by submission (standing guillotine choke) at 2:15 of the first round.
Foster defeated LaVerne Clark via first round submission at CCCW 7 on October 15.[10]
Foster will face Raymond Daniels at Glory 11: Chicago - Heavyweight World Championship Tournament in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on October 12, 2013.[11][12]
