Priyanka Chopra is an Indian actress known for her work in Bollywood films. She made her debut in 2002 in the Tamil film Thamizhan and her Bollywood debut the following year in Anil Sharma's drama The Hero (2003).[1] Later in the same year, Chopra played a supporting role in the romantic musical drama Andaaz (2003), for which she shared the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut with co-star Lara Dutta.[1][2][3] The following year, she became the second actress to win the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role for her breakthrough role as a seductress in the thriller Aitraaz (2004).[1][3][4] Chopra starred in six Hindi films in 2005, including Waqt and Bluffmaster!.[5]
In 2006, Chopra appeared opposite Hrithik Roshan in the superhero sequel Krrish and alongside Shahrukh Khan in the action-thriller Don, both among the highest grossing films of the year in India.[6] However she followed this with appearances in a series of critical and commercial failures, including Salaam-e-Ishq, Love Story 2050 and Drona,[5] leading many critics to believe that the end of her career was imminent.[5] Chopra's prospects improved in 2008 when she played troubled model Meghna Mathur in the drama Fashion, for which received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, and the National Film Award for Best Actress.[7] Later that year, she appeared in the romantic comedy Dostana.[8]
In 2009, Chopra starred in the hit caper thriller Kaminey opposite Shahid Kapoor, a film which was later cited as a cult classic of Indian cinema.[9][10] In the same year, she became the first actress to portray twelve distinct characters in one film in the social comedy What's Your Raashee? (2009).[11][12] In 2010, she made her television debut as the host of the third season of reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi, which surpassed the opening ratings of the previous two seasons.[13] The following year, Chopra won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of a serial killer in the black comedy 7 Khoon Maaf (2011).[1][14] Later that year, she appeared in the second instalment of the Don series, entitled Don 2 (2010). Two years later, Chopra starred in the action drama Agneepath, and portrayed an autistic woman in the romantic comedy-drama Barfi!.[6] For her performance in the latter she received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.[15]
In 2013, Chopra appeared in the third instalment of the Krrish series, entitled Krrish 3. The film is Chopra's biggest commercial success to date.[16] The following year she starred as a cabaret dancer in the commercially successful romantic action drama Gunday.[17] Later in the year she portrayed the eponymous boxer in the 2014 biographical sports drama Mary Kom, which emerged as a commercial success.[18][19] Chopra also received a nomination at the Filmfare Awards.[20]
