Thugs of Hindostan is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language period action-adventure film, written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. The film stars Aamir Khan in the lead role, along with Amitabh Bachchan,[2] Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Katrina Kaif.[3][4]
The film is based on Philip Meadows Taylor's 1839 novel Confessions of a Thug,[2][5] about a gang of Thugs who posed a serious challenge to the British Empire in India (then known as Hindustan or Hindostan) during the early 19th century.[2] Thugs of Hindostan is set to be released during Diwali on 7 November 2018.[6]
Cast
- Aamir Khan as Ameer Ali, the protagonist, a prominent Thug who is of Pathan origin, orphaned as a child and raised by Thugs.[2]
- Amitabh Bachchan as Ismail, a high-ranking Thug and the adoptive father of Ameer Ali.[2]
- Fatima Sana Shaikh as the female lead.[3][4]
- Katrina Kaif in a supporting role.[3][4]
- Jackie Shroff
- Shashank Arora
- Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub
- Satyadev Kancharana
Production
The film's production budget is ₹210 crore (US$25 million),[1] making it the most expensive Yash Raj Films production.[7] Filming commenced on 5 June 2017 in Malta. The film is also being shot in Thailand.[8]
It is the first time that Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are collaborating on a film. It is also Khan's second time collaborating with Vijay Krishna Acharya and Katrina Kaif, after Dhoom 3 (2013).[9] The film will have a dance sequence featuring Bachchan, choreographed by Prabhu Deva.[10] It will also reportedly feature sea battles similar to ones seen in films such as Pirates of the Caribbean.[2]
