South vs Western India

@Shrikanthv: It is not "South vs West" as you put it. It is about the inclusion of the word western in the lede as in this text: a state considered to be part of southern and western India which I had edited in here is reliably sourced since the Ministry of Minority Affairs includes Karnataka in its 'Western Zone'. Check this. On the contrary, I didn't find any source in the article which supports the phrase: south western region. And kindly ping me. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:20, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

This Featured Article lacks citations for many statements in various sections

Hi,
Although considered to be a WP:Featured Article, this article is lacking citations for many statements in various sections (WP:FA 2c). In fact, not only are citations missing for many statements, but the citation format also isn't matching as per the Featured Article guidelines (WP:citing sources). Aviator423, I'm not seeing the problem - on a quick scan through, I do see one or two unsourced sentences, which aren't adding much and might be removed, but I don't know that's is bad enough to warrant that tag. I have listed below the statements lacking citations in just the first 2 sections of this Featured Article. The subsequent sections also follow the same pattern but the list is too long to be mentioned for the entire article.

1. History section

• "Evidence of neolithic and megalithic cultures have also been found in the state"
• "The decline of Satavahana power led to the rise of the earliest native kingdoms, the Kadambas and the Western Gangas, marking the region's emergence as an independent political entity."
• "As the 'doctrine of lapse' gave way to dissent and resistance from princely states across the country, Kittur Chennamma, Sangolli Rayanna and others spearheaded rebellions in Karnataka in 1830, nearly three decades before the Indian Rebellion of 1857."

As mentioned earlier, I have listed the missing citations for statements in just the first 2 sections. The list is too long to mention for the entire article, and there are many more unsourced statements in the subsequent sections. Kindly note that this is a WP:Featured Article. And it's not just about missing citations, even the citation format needs to be accurate for FA (WP:citing sources).

For your information, having cited statements is one of the main necessities for a WP:Good Article, and Featured Articles are considered to be of much better quality than a GA. – Aviator423 (talk) 14:27, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Aviator423, yes, thanks I kind of know what the requirements for GAs and FAs are (sneak a look at my userpage bling) - this article was assessed for FA back in 2007, I won't be surprised if a bit of crud has accumulated since then, or if it would fail FAR now. I was just concerned that sticking a tag on without expanding on your concerns wouldn't help fix the problem. At least now editors have some specific things to go looking for - thanks for listing them. GirthSummit _(blether) 15:35, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

south south Indian sister states

The lede states that Karnataka is "the only southern state to have land borders with all of the other 4 south south Indian sister states." My instinct is to say "the other 4 southern Indian sister states", but there may be some other variable in play here, so I'm pointing it out rather than making the change.
