Avolar is a Mexican low-cost airline based at General Abelardo L. Rodríguez International Airport in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Operations began on August 2005 with a single Boeing 737-500 aircraft. Avolar is widely considered the first low-cost airline in Mexico. Since then, other low-cost airlines such as Click Mexicana, Interjet, and Volaris have surpassed Avolar in terms of growth. Their planes are painted with their orange and white wave livery.

Plans

Mexican low-cost carrier Avolar plans to order 20 Boeing 737-800s to strengthen its domestic network and launch a number of international routes to the USA and Canada. It will take delivery of the twin-jets from 2008 to 2010. Avolar still plans to lease eight older Boeing 737-300s and Boeing 737-500s in the meantime, adding these to its existing fleet of 20 aircraft by the end of 2007. Beyond the initial Californian destinations, Avolar plans to reinforce its North American presence, once it receives the new Boeing aircraft, with flights to: Chicago, New York City, destinations in Arizona and Nevada as well as Canada.
