S.H.E had the misfortune of releasing their first album on September 11, 2001, the same day that the World Trade Center collapsed. The album was called Girls Dorm (女生宿舍) in memory of the dormitory that S.H.E lived in for a few months prior to the album's release. The album sold approximately 100,000 units. Girls Dorm was the first and only album in which each member had her own solo song: Hebe's solo was Too Much, Selina's was Forgotten to Forget About You (忘記把你忘記), and Ella's was Don't (別). Labelmates Power Station wrote the song Fridge (冰箱). On January 29, their second album, Youth Society (青春株式會社), was released. Hebe and Ella also acted in the drama, Magical Love; Selina was absent because she was attending the National Taiwan Normal University. The songs "Remember" and "Belief" were used as the drama's opening and ending themes, respectively. S.H.E's third album, Genesis (美麗新世界), was released on August 5, approximately six months after Youth Society was released. In spite of the high frequency of album releases, Youth Society and Genesis were criticized for being unoriginal; of the 20 songs in both albums, 11 were covers. Nevertheless, Youth Society sold 250,000 units while Genesis sold 200,000 - a figure which included 20,000 pre-order sales. After the release of Genesis, S.H.E also began endorsing N-age, an interactive online game that originated in Korea. The songs Genesis and Watch Me Shine were used as the main themes for the game. N-age sponsored S.H.E's first major concert in Tainan (美麗新世界演唱會); in return, S.H.E incorporated N-age into some of their music videos. The MV for Genesis prominently features a plane with the N-age brand, while Watch Me Shine features computer animations simulating gameplay in N-age. |

On February 6, 2004, S.H.E released Magical Journey in two different versions: a Magical version and a Journey version. The music video for the song "He Still Doesn't Understand", was filmed in Hokkaido. On September 4, 2004, S.H.E began their first major tour, the Fantasy Land Tour, starting in Taipei and ending in Genting Highlands, Malaysia. During their tour, they broke an attendance record in Shanghai. On June 12, Selina graduated from the National Taiwan Normal University with a Bachelor of Education degree, majoring in Civic Education and Leadership. Because of the timing of Selina's graduation, the release of S.H.E's seventh album, Encore, was pushed to the fall. Nevertheless, Encore has thus far sold 2,000,000 units in all of Asia. The song, Piquancy (痛快), was used as the music in the commercial for the online game, New Legendary Twins (新絕代雙嬌). Selina and Hebe were cast for the drama series Happy New Year 2004 in January, and co-starred in the Hong Kong movie, A Disguised Superstar, with Miriam Yeung one month later. In March, Hebe played the role of the female love interest in the first episode of Say Yes Enterprise. |

Released on November 25, 2005, S.H.E's eighth album, Once Upon A Time, is currently the only S.H.E album without a cover song. The album has thus far sold 1,000,000 copies. In spite of their success, S.H.E became involved in the ongoing political debate between China and Taiwan. On July 21, 2006, S.H.E released their 9th album, Forever. Although the album claimed to be a compilation of hits with five new songs, three of the songs - Flowers Have Blossomed (花都開好了), Star Light (星光), and A Vision of Eternity () - are from older drama soundtracks: The Rose (薔薇之戀), Reaching for the Stars (真命天女), and The Little Fairy (天外飛仙), respectively. The song Solo Madrigal (獨唱情歌), which is a duet between Selina and Tank, was especially recorded for this album, but also did not count as a new song. Tank ended up inserting the song into his debut album, Fighting! (生存之道) . Hebe also recorded a duet, Only Have Feelings For You (只對你有感覺), with new labelmates Fahrenheit; the song went on to win several duet-related awards. Despite having composed Not to Be Your Friend (不作你的朋友) for the album, Once Upon A Time, Jay Chou ended up penning yet another song, Electric Shock (觸電) for S.H.E. Unfortunately, by having Jay Chou collaborating with them once again, S.H.E became the victim of rumours romantically linking him with Hebe. Ella was cast for the lead female role of the Taiwanese drama, Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu. S.H.E sang the song, What to do? (怎麽辦), specifically for the drama. |

As spokespeople for 7-11 in Taiwan, S.H.E, along with Fahrenheit, recorded Always Open as a promotional song. S.H.E is a Taiwanese girl group famous in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia,Singapore, other parts of Asia, and in some overseas Asian communities. The group consists of Selina Ren, Hebe Tian, and Ella Chen. The group's name is an alphabetism derived from the first letter of each member's name.
During 2003, S.H.E's success as a group led them high-profile advertising deals, most notably for Coca-Cola[1]. In 2005, Blizzard Entertainment asked the band to help them advertise their best selling MMORPG computer game, World of Warcraft[2]. The commercial was mostly a computer generated video, where the girls were put into the context of a fantasy gaming world. Super Star, from the group's fifth album, has been one of S.H.E's most notable songs.
At present, they are one of the most popular groups in Asia. In addition to their extraordinary album and concert sales, S.H.E managed to set a new ticketing record in 2004 during their Fantasy Land Tour[3]. In 2006, during their Perfect 3 Tour, they set a new attendance record at the Shanghai Stadium, selling approximately 50,000 tickets[4] and filling 60% of the stadium.[5] Their popularity was never in question as autograph sessions were always over-crowded. S.H.E celebrated their 5th anniversary on September 11, 2006.
Biography
On August 8, 2000, HIM International Music held a 'Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest' in search for new artists to be signed under their label. The contest had about 1000 contestants, and after many tiring rounds, seven contestants remained for the 'Cruel Stage' round. Following the competition, the record company gave all seven contestants an audition. Selina Ren, Hebe Tian, and Ella Chen stood out among these seven. Originally, only one person would be given a contract, but because of their incredible performances, all three of them were signed together under HIM International records. Together, Selina, Hebe, and Ella formed S.H.E.
Selina Ren was the actual winner of this contest. Her younger sister really wanted to join but was too young. Instead, Selina joined the contest in her place. She caught the judges' attention in the first round by singing Coco Lee's 'Before I Fall In Love' and entered the final round with no trouble, singing 'The Closest Stranger'. Due to her nervousness during the final round, Selina was called twice. When Selina was announced the winner, she was doubtful because there were other contestants who did not get called on.
Employees of the television show 'Cruel Stage' encouraged Hebe Tian to participate in the contest. During the first round, her voice started breaking while singing 'Return Home'. Hebe decided to sing a song with a lower key in the final round. However, because she was unfamiliar with that song, she forgot the lyrics in the finals, messing up her performance. Nonetheless, the manager appreciated her straight personality.
When Ella Chen and her younger brother went to Taipei from Pingtung for a holiday, Ella's elder sister registered her into the competition. Ella almost gave up before the first round because of the long queue of contestants, but was convinced by her sister to stay. Ella made her way through the final round due to her unique deep voice, which caught the company's attention and made her stand out from the others.
After the three of them were signed to HIM, the company did not immediately make them into a group because their different personalities and looks did not fit with what audiences were used to. However, since Taiwan had never had an all-girl group made up of different personalities and appearances, the company thought that the idea would be new and fresh, and boldly put the three girls together. When the three girls initially heard this, they did not readily accept the decision because forming a girl group was not what they had in mind.
All three of them came from different places, never telephoned each other and only said 'Hi' when they met briefly. Because most of the songs in the album did not require them to sing together, their relationship at the outset was not very good, which gave the company reason for concern. When the company had them stay in the same room, in the same dormitory, the girls worried that conflict would arise.

S.H.E had the misfortune of releasing their first album on September 11, 2001, the same day that the World Trade Center collapsed. 2005
Released on November 25, 2005, S.H.E's eighth album, Once Upon A Time, is currently the only S.H.E album without a cover song. The album has thus far sold 1,000,000 copies[17]. In spite of their success, S.H.E became involved in the ongoing political debate between China and Taiwan. In August, S.H.E and singer Richie Ren were quoted as saying that they "hate mainlanders."[18] Furthermore, on a Japanese talk show, S.H.E supposedly said that they were not Chinese, but Taiwanese.Cite error: The <ref>

On July 21, 2006, S.H.E released their 9th album, Forever. The song Solo Madrigal (獨唱情歌), which is a duet between Selina and Tank, was especially recorded for this album, but also did not count as a new song. Ella was cast for the lead female role of the Taiwanese drama, Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu. S.H.E sang the song, What to do? (怎麽辦), specifically for the drama.
2007
As spokespeople for 7-11 in Taiwan, S.H.E, along with Fahrenheit, recorded Always Open as a promotional song. Selina and Hebe signed half-year contracts to be the co-hosts of Jacky Wu's Guess Guess Guess (我猜我猜我猜猜猜) show[22], the show that coincidentally led to the formation of S.H.E.

Cover Songs
S.H.E has quite a number of cover songs, which is not surprising given that they've released eight albums in only four years. Their 2005 album Once Upon A Time contains no known 'covers' as such, but does include a well-known parody of the Symphony No 40 in G minor (K550) by Mozart.
It is a common misconception that S.H.E's 2003 hit Super Star is a cover song. The German songwriter Geo composed Super Star for S.H.E.[23][24] After it became popular, Geo had the lyrics rewritten for his Euroband, Sweetbox, as the song Chyna Girl. The same situation occurred for the song 我愛你 (I Love You)[25], with Sweetbox re-singing it as More than Love.

Trivia
- S.H.E originally had a Chinese group name but never used it after they became popular: 女朋友 (Pinyin: Nǚ Péngyŏu, "Girl Friends")
- Every S.H.E album cover displays an "Oxalis", a symbol for the group. On some covers the clover is easy to spot (Girls Dorm, Together, Encore, Forever) while on others its appearance is more subtle (Super Star, Once Upon a Time).

Having composed works for the Swedish band Ace of Base and British girl group Bananarama, Robert Rosan (GEO) was willing to help S.H.E write a new song for their new album, after he heard that [the three girls] listen to many of Sweetbox's songs.
