Brent Webster is an American lawyer acting as the Texas attorney general since May 27, 2023. He was appointed first assistant attorney general in 2020.

Career

Webster earned a bachelor's degree at Southwestern University in 2003.[1] He completed a Juris Doctor degree at the University of Houston Law Center in 2005.[1]

Webster was a prosecutor in Texas for ten years. He served as the first assistant district attorney of Williamson County, Texas.[1] He later worked in private practice as a civil litigator and criminal defense lawyer.[1] He joined an Austin, Texas based start-up as the chief operations officer and general counsel.[1]

Following Jeff Mateer's resignation, Webster was appointed by Texas attorney general Ken Paxton as the first assistant attorney general in 2020.[1][2] In September 2022, judge John Youngblood dismissed a disciplinary case against him regarding attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election.[3] Starting on May 27 2023, Webster began acting as the Texas Attorney General for the duration of Paxton's suspension.[4]
