::::Yes. As noted, all of the roads articles on the English Wikipedia have been exported for future importation into the new wiki. At the moment, only the US and Canadian articles have been imported, but the others could be imported if there are editors interested in working on them. We haven't set up guidelines for that yet. Building a new wiki from scratch involves a lot of details, and it was enough for the moment to get 15K articles imported and working and a start on some policies and a style guide. <span style="background:#006B54; padding:2px;">'''[[User:Imzadi1979|<span style="color:white;">Imzadi&nbsp;1979</span>]]&nbsp;[[User talk:Imzadi1979|<span style="color:white;"><big>→</big></span>]]'''</span> 14:47, 17 September 2023 (UTC)

They're threatening to ban you for an entire bloody year at Arbcom. Absolutely f**k*** outrageous!
Show them your article creation list, Sarah, I think you probably have the record.
Sure you lose your rag from time to time - but don't we all, especially when faced with extreme provocation and wind-up merchnats....Gaimhreadhan (kiwiexile at DMOZ) talk • 17:46, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So, this is where it ends

Two editors of of nearly two decades standing banned; BHG and LaurelLodge. Sarah777 (talk) 23:35, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you don't mind my sharing regret (I have your page since the end-run for the WikiProject last year) - I really wonder if there should not be more of a staged approach for major / active contributors, especially when one occasion is overshadowed by 20+ years and over a million edits, or even a solid 12+ years of article and category work. No one's perfect, and we do need to get on - but this is a sad moment (as was the previous occasion with BHG - and over Portals, of all things). If I'd known, I'd have been inclined to comment on the case / proposed resolution, too late now, but thanks for catching it. SeoR (talk) 09:01, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
SeoR: Indeed, I concur with you and sad to see good, long established contributors bite the dust though I did not know LaurelLodge, BHG was well known to me for several years and I worked with them on sa number of mainly Irish related issues. Sarah777 and I know each other for a long time too hence noticing your post. ww2censor (talk) 10:59, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's really sad to BHG go. Having seen what LL was actually banned for - well, yeah. Explains a few questionable edits I'd come across in the past. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 11:57, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sad indeed re. BHG, and a great loss both editorially and technically - it is so lucky that recent script and classification work was done, but I hope some BHG bot magic survives to be taken under other wings. LL had very firm opinions on some matters, and was a more complex colleague, but we did not often cross paths, and on balance, they did grow the encyclopedia. I really wish ArbCom had gone for something else, like long but book-ended restrictions - too many losses, not enough strong new editors, and many of us, due to real life issues, can't do as much as we'd like already, so we stretch thinner... SeoR (talk) 13:38, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Bastun, my old foe, howya?! What did LL do? I only looked this up when BHG was banned. All I know is that LL was active back in the day when I was also fairly active. They seemed utterly uncontroversial back then. Sarah777 (talk) 20:32, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, he continued making comments that were completely unacceptable to the community (and would be unacceptable in any community you'd want to be part of). You can find the diffs in the Smallcat evidence page. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 09:32, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Disappointing...Sarah777 (talk) 00:45, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Small Cats, of all things

It appears that BHG and LL were banned in the following case: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/SmallCat_dispute

Included in this pompous mimicry of the ludicrous US Supreme Court, we have a repetition of a bizarre self-serving Wiki-myth that I, myself, exposed 15 years ago:

Consensus 5) Consensus is Wikipedia's fundamental model for editorial decision-making. In most cases, consensus is an implicit process, where undisputed edits—either in article or project space—are assumed to have consensus. In cases where consensus is unclear, extra care must be taken to avoid stirring up unnecessary conflict. From both a broad behavioral and content standpoint, there exist situations on Wikipedia where it is preferable to be cautious and seek consensus prior to an edit instead of editing boldly as is common in uncontroversial areas of the project. Passed 10 to 0 at 02:12, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

Fact check: Wikipedia absolutely DOES NOT work on the basis of consensus! It manifestly works on the basis of majoritarianism. Sometimes that is a 10-0 vote by Admins, often not. Either way it is majoritarianism. Majority votes may well be the best way to decide anything; whether Brexit, US elections, the election of "Autocrats" or "strongmen" across the globe - but what it absolutely is not, is consensus. If the Arbs in Wiki had even a shred of honesty (or rationality?) they'd stop repeating that obvious gibberish. Sarah777 (talk) 23:13, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A New Future for Road Articles Online

Wow! This project sounds promising. I assume Irish roads might also apply? Sarah777 (talk) 22:29, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes.
