ARS Code of Conduct
  • Note that this wikiproject is only intended to improve the encyclopedia. The project is not about casting votes or vote-stacking. Be sure to follow the guideline on canvassing. This means, in part, that you should use Template:Rescue list on the deletion discussion page when you list the discussion here.
  • Focus on improving content. For example, when working on an article listed for rescue, try to qualify topic notability by adding reliable-source references with significant coverage of the topic. Edit the content to address specific concerns raised in the AfD discussion.
  • Show the light. If you comment in an AfD discussion, try to describe points in the nomination that have been corrected. Note any remaining deficiencies (e.g. lack of organization, structural problems, lack of balance, etc.). Base comments upon Wikipedia's deletion policy. If an article has been rewritten, you may place a comment in the AfD as a courtesy to assist the closing admin in determining which article version others were referring to.
For more information about article rescue, please refer to ARS Tips to help rescue articles and ARS Rescue guide
For additional article improvement listings, check out this project's archives and listings at WikiProject Cleanup

This is a list and discussion of Wikipedia content for rescue consideration. When posting here, please be sure to:

  • First familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's guidelines for topic notability and identifying reliable sources, as well as the prohibition on inappropriate canvassing
  • Include a specific rationale why the article/content should be retained on Wikipedia, and any ideas to improve the content. Please ensure that your comment here is neutrally worded. (You can also !vote to delete an article at its deletion discussion because you think it is untenable in its present state, and still list it here in the hope that another editor will find a way to improve it and save it.)
  • You should disclose in a deletion discussion that a post has been made at the rescue list.
  • Sign posts with four tildes ~~~~.
  • Place the {{subst:rescue list|~~~~}} template in Articles for deletion discussions, to notify editors about the listing here. The tag can be placed below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

The following templates can be used for articles listed here:

  • *{{Find sources|Article name}} - Adds source search options
  • *{{lagafd|Article name}} - Adds relevant links
  • *{{lagafd|Article name|Article name (2nd nomination)}} - Likewise but for page nominated twice
  • *{{lagafd|Article name|Article name (3rd nomination)}} - Likewise but for page nominated 3 times
  • *{{lagafd|Article name|Article name (Nth nomination)}} - Likewise but for page nominated N ≥ 4 times

ATTENTION! Go to https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/ to apply for access to multiple databases to search for sources to help save and improve articles.

Article is poor. But is it notable?

Oleksandr Yaroslavskyi has been nominated for deletion. Yaroslavskyi is a Ukrainian oligarch who appears to have plenty of coverage to meet GNG. I would appreciate any help in finding sourcing. Thriley (talk) 18:23, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced articles should be deleted

Proposal to delete upward of 100,000 unreferenced articles. -- GreenC 20:00, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Concern has been expressed about WP:BLPCRIME and WP:CRIME issues about this social media influencer. There is some urgency, as this article as at WP:AFD. I've completely rewritten the article and I thought made it compliant with both of the above guidelines/policy, but comments coming in make it clear that people don't agree.

Any help in making this article compliant with WP:BLPCRIME and WP:CRIME would be very welcome.

There is lots more sources about the subject online, overwhelmingly in unreliable sources, so please don't add them in. Probably this article needs to be shorter, I'm just not sure what needs to be cut to make it compliant. CT55555(talk) 00:24, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. I don't think this particular article is a good candidate for ARS as the relevant policy issue at hand relates specifically to the following policy language at WP:CRIME: "Generally, historic significance is indicated by sustained coverage of the event in reliable secondary sources which persists beyond contemporaneous news coverage and devotes significant attention to the individual's role." Given that the sources on this subject are all within a recent timeframe and are exclusively connected to on-going news coverage, I don't think there is going to be way to solve the problem through adding more available RS. There has not been sufficient time for the development of other types of RS as required by this policy langue. It's a little unfair to essentially ask people at ARS to locate coverage that would be a technical impossibility to exist given that the sources about the subject are all tied up in current news events in relation to an alleged crime that has yet to go through the court system. In short not enough time has passed for sources to develop which "persist beyond contemporaneous news coverage" (which is still on-going). Let's not send the ARS team on a fool's errand. That said, anyone still wishing to attempt to address the problem is welcome to try, I just don't think its likely to be successful because the types of sources needed (ie. something other than contemporaneous media coverage) have not been published yet (if they will ever be published at all).4meter4 (talk)
CRIME is one of the special notability guidelines. It might fail CRIME but pass GNG, in which case GNG can be a valid rationale. Also, ARS is not a "team". I don't what it is, but team implies something ARS is not. -- GreenC 05:11, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t agree with that interpretation of policy at all. WP:BLP policy trumps GNG in this case and WP:BLPCRIME (and more broadly WP:NOTSCANDAL) makes the language at CRIME more prescient even than that of GNG.4meter4 (talk) 06:36, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Article is at WP:AFD after a deletion review. The article is not well sourced, I assume sources exist offline, and if anyone can help add some, it would be very timely. CT55555(talk) 13:54, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is there anything at Internet Archive? -- GreenC 15:06, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. That was helpful in order to get English-language sources to verify two of his diplomatic roles. The other hits I think are about someone else with the same name. I expect most of the sources about him are offline and/or Urdu, so having a tough time with this article. CT55555(talk) 01:36, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you can't save it here, just go to https://military-history.fandom.com/wiki/Zafar_Mahmud and asked an administrator to import it. Special:Export can export the entire edit history of the article, it only 613 KB, but only an administrator can import it on that wiki. Did you read the obituaries for the guy? They usually list the most important things in someone's life. I searched https://www.newspapers.com/ for his name and "Royal Indian Air Force" and found nothing.
