What do you mean it couldn't be verified that she was the first black woman to hold the mayoral post of a major Californian city? That's easily verifiable. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 20:30, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
- The SFGate reference states, "Anderson, 70, says she is the first African American woman to be elected mayor of a major California city, although a researcher at the California League of Cities said there were no records to confirm or refute that claim." - In the 2010 census, Compton had population 96,000 and Richmond had population 103,000. According to the Compton, California article, "[I]n 1973, Doris A. Davis defeated Dollarhide's bid for re-election to become the first African-American female mayor of a metropolitan city in the United States." This begs the question, how big is a "major" city.
