Hey Sushant, nice effort!! But I must tell you the article requires some merciless editing from some experienced people. Also required are more citations. Are the pictures uploaded under a free license? I have come online after quite a few days and am not going to be online for the next few days but will try to pitch in where possible. Meanwhile do ask punters like Dwaipayan to help out with the article... Dont submit for FAC yet. — Lost(talk) 18:16, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination for Featured Article

I wanted to let you know that I have not forgotten about you, but I have been busy with school and other things. For the most part I believe that you have some good things going on with the article, and that it should be ok for nomination to be a Featured Article. I hope it is successful when it is nominated, because I am sure that you have worked hard to make it great. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 22:20, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Texas A&M University FA Nomination

Thanks for leaving comments at the Texas A&M University FA Nomination. Are there particular portions of the Manual of Style that you feel aren't being followed? We are certainly intending to follow the MOS. We will be happy to fix problems, but we need more guidance and what the problem might be. Thanks. (I also put this comment on the FA page, but I didn't know if you'd be checking it often. I don't mean to nag.) Karanacs 14:01, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HP FAC

Hi., thanks for leaving me a note on my talk page. I went thru the article and found loads of comments that i 'unloaded' on the FAC page. If i left a huge mountain load of work on your table, accept my apologies for the same. Kalyan 18:39, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sushant - A comment. Please don't strike my comments once you address them. If you want to differentiate, maybe italicize them but it is much prudent if you left the striking out to me as a means of agreeing to or disagreeig to your changes. Thanks. I shall revert to your changes by tomorrow. Kalyan 14:42, 23 May 2007 (IST)

Sushant - There is no need to apologize. I know you would require to differentiate between comments you have addressed and comments yet to be addressed. I suggest you use Italics instead of striking it off. Kalyan 05:03, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sushant - I shall review the HP FAC comments addressal by tonight and let you know my feedback. Kalyan 07:43, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Thansk for the support! We put a lot of effort into it. I am an officer in the USAF. Currently, I'm being evaluated for removal from flight training (kind of a downer), and your support was a BIG boost to my morale and the success of this article as an FA. Once again, thanks! Confusion ...

Hi., i was in the airport when i noticed that you responded to my comments and hence left a note on your talk page asking you not to strike-off the notes, that is my prerogative. Instead of using tildas, i signed with my username to ensure that you know it came from me. How is that Vandal? Kalyan 04:58, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey no probs., public IPs including office and airports are shared. check the "user contribs" of the IP henceforth. Kalyan 08:38, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Sushant, sorry to leave you high and dry with the HP FAC but real life is going through a very hectic period right now. I am the middle of relocating to another state and switching to a new job. So I dont think I am going to be online for the next few weeks. You are doing a very hard job at the FAC from what I see. Dont let the experience frustrate you! All the best — Lost(talk) 11:27, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GAC

It does indeed depend on the review of one person, but the rules governing that review are laid out at Wikipedia:What is a Good Article? so it's not like it's totally random. Most of the reviewers are very good at what they do, and if your article is well written will be more than happy to pass it, perhaps with a few changes to meet standards. (If your article does not pass muster, don't be discouraged then either, just study the criteria and try again once you believe it meets them.) --tjstrf talk 10:20, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your question posted @ Wikipedia talk:Good article candidates

The answer to your question is both yes and no - yes, it takes just one person to review one article and either pass or fail it, as well as possibly delist a Good Article the person would find wanting. That said, it is expected that the person does follow the Good Article Criteria when assessing the article, and we have the Good Article Review process, involving multiple users per one article, in cases where there is doubt about the appropriateness of the review.
Just another remark - if you are still in the process of editing an article, please do not nominate it. GA Nominees are supposed to be complete articles, i.e. ones that the nominators expects will not require any significant edits in forseeable future. This also needs to be fulfilled in order for the article to clear the "stability" criterium (point 5). Please consider withdrawing your nomination and renominating the article once you are finished with editing. Do also read the Good Article Criteria carefully, making sure the article fulfills them before nominating. PrinceGloria 11:24, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS. I have posted a copy of this reply in the general talk page for other users to whom it might be of interest / assisstance.

I am afraid I am not able to review any article at the moment due to time constraints, but anyway I would like to draw your attention to the fact that there is a considerable backlog (over 100 articles) of Good Article candidacies waiting to be reviewed, and that, in general, older articles should be reviewed first. There are six articles in the same topical section as your nomination that have been nominated earlier, with the oldest nomination not reviewed yet posted on May 16. Currently, there is a considerable effort being made to offset the backlog, but still one should expect to wait for a review for up to two weeks (and this has been more or less a standard since the new system is in place). Thank you for your understanding. PrinceGloria 11:39, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ermm, just visit any HP place article for the map. I meant that the locator dots for the district hq like Chamba, Himachal Pradesh for eg is offset from the spot marked on my map. I want you to verify that the correct coordinates have been entered in the infobox so that the dot is dasplayed correctly -- PlaneMad|YakYak 11:28, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Himachal - Chintpurni page

Dear Himachal collective,

Recently I came across the Chintpurni page in Wikipedia. I was surprised to note that you have have freely used material lifted verbatim from the Mata Chintpurni Devi website - http://www.geocities.com/chintpurni1/index.html - that I have written and for which I assert the copyright. You donot even have the moral courage to provide appropriate citations to the original site in complete contradiction to the copyright policies of Wikipedia. An excerpt frpm this policy is quoted below -

"Using copyrighted work from others All works are copyrighted unless they either fall into the public domain or their copyright is explicitly disclaimed. If you use part of a copyrighted work under "fair use", or if you obtain special permission to use a copyrighted work from the copyright holder under the terms of our license, you must make a note of that fact (along with names and dates). It is our goal to be able to freely redistribute as much of Wikipedia's material as possible, so original images and sound files licensed under the GFDL or in the public domain are greatly preferred to copyrighted media files used under fair use. See Wikipedia:Boilerplate request for permission for a form letter asking a copyright holder to grant us a license to use their work under terms of the GFDL.

Never use materials that infringe the copyrights of others. This could create legal liabilities and seriously hurt the project. If in doubt, write it yourself.

Note that copyright law governs the creative expression of ideas, not the ideas or information themselves. Therefore, it is legal to read an encyclopedia article or other work, reformulate the concepts in your own words, and submit it to Wikipedia. However, it would still be unethical (but not illegal) to do so without citing the original as a reference. See plagiarism and fair use for discussions of how much reformulation is necessary in a general context.

Linking to copyrighted works Since most recently-created works are copyrighted, almost any Wikipedia article which cites its sources will link to copyrighted material. It is not necessary to obtain the permission of a copyright holder before linking to copyrighted material -- just as an author of a book does not need permission to cite someone else's work in their bibliography. Likewise, Wikipedia is not restricted to linking only to GFDL-free or open-source content.

If you know that an external Web site is carrying a work in violation of the creator's copyright, do not link to that copy of the work. Knowingly and intentionally directing others to a site that violates copyright has been considered a form of contributory infringement in the United States (Intellectual Reserve v. Utah Lighthouse Ministry). Linking to a page that illegally distributes someone else's work sheds a bad light on Wikipedia and its editors. The copyright status of Internet archives in the United States is unclear, and Linking to the Wayback Machine, for example, is an acceptable external link on Wikipedia.

If you find a copyright infringement If you suspect a copyright infringement, you should at the very least bring up the issue on that page's talk page. Others can then examine the situation and take action if needed. The most helpful piece of information you can provide is a URL or other reference to what you believe may be the source of the text."

I await you response,

Re:Hello

Seems you are doing great job with Geological history of Earth. Keep it up! The article has an excellent look. However, it's sad that you won't be able to be much active in WP:India. There is a lack of good output from the project these days. I am similarly pretty busy with real life stuffs, and cannot be in wikipedia much. Anyway, let's hope for the best. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:27, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you have a very professional-looking article here that is very impressive. it is amazing how sic article can be constructed in such little time. I am impressed that you are able to produce encyclopedic quality material that is very rich in content.

I think that one thing that may hold the article back is the fact that there are very few pages in the regular namespace (not including talk, user talk, etc.) that link to this article. I'm sure that if you give it time that many pages will end up linking to yours.

Do not be discouraged if they don't accept your article the first time through. Keep working with it to make it even better for the next time. I have had some difficulty with things of this nature, because the people are very picky, so I felt that you should be aware of this. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 21:12, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will try sometime today to go through the page to see what links need to b disambiguated. It really isn't that hard and you could actually do that yourself, if you know which page the link should refer . If you want to know how to disambiguate, I can give you some advice.
While the page may not be available in other languages, if you are familiar with other languages, you can start to translate the page, and people on the wikipedia for that language can help you translate. I might be able to find some info about this as well. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 12:41, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did not find but only a couple links that needed disambiguation; one of them I did not disambiguate because it links to more specific terms. Please let me know if you know of any more links that should be disambiguated. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 16:43, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello; I haven't had time to go through the article thoroughly, but I noticed that the sections "Geologic timeline" through "Faults and folds" were unreferenced. You don't need to cite everything, but a reference at the end of large paragraphs would be helpful. All you'd really need is a geology or historical geology textbook, since these sections are basic geologic facts that would be in a typical college-level textbook. There is also a structural or focus issue. This is in conjunction with what hardypants said on the talk page. You may want to start off with the formation of the Earth, then briefly introduce various processes that cause change, and then go through the history. This is another place where a good college textbook will come in handy, because then you can flesh out the geology. As it is right now, the article is thin on geologic events, but the title implies discussion of major geological events. You can use your timeline discussion to frame a chronologic discussion of such events (i.e., in the Paleozoic you could discuss the formation of Pangaea). Right now, the focus of the article is too diffuse: it has detailed discussions of a number of topics, but they aren't always linked together. I think that this is a necessary article and has much useful material; it's just the focus of the article, and what topics are getting emphasized, that are issues. J. Spencer 22:14, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine. Do you have a library nearby? There may be a good book of this type there. J. Spencer 14:56, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was somewhat surprised that you didn't find any images in this article, as there is one in the taxobox. I'm using Firefox; is this perhaps a browser issue? J. Spencer 15:01, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's OK; like I said, I was just surprised since I'm at that article fairly often. That's why I was thinking it was a computer/browser issue. J. Spencer 14:29, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sushant gupta,

I would like to inquire about your recent tagging of the SF_Minnesota article as not citing references or sources. In creating the article, I took care to cite documentation for quoted passages and specific information that has been published by SF Minnesota and by third-party sources that work with SF Minnesota. I guess I don't understand what more documentation could be provided. Please enlighten me. Thank you.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction and for adding the correct formatting to SF Minnesota! I added more detail to the citations and added a few more citations. I appreciate the guidance. Now I'll do the same work on the other article I created, Diversicon.

Hello Sushant,
Thanks for your comment in Karnataka FAC. I believe, I have addressed your concern. Please take a look. The article size went above 90 KB with all the references in the main article. So in order to reduce the article size, using the summary style approach, we have moved all the references to sub-articles. Also, if you feel any of the claims made in the "History" is not supported with any citation, in either of those sub-articles, please let me know. Thank you. - KNM Talk 15:43, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. I have added adequate citations and references to the history section of the Karnataka article. I hope this addresses the concern you had raised. If so, I request you to strike-off your opposition vote. I will be glad to address any more concerns you may have. Thanks again. - KNM Talk 19:38, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geographical History of Earth FAC

Hello Sushant, I appreciate that you are working hard for the article. But my objections were valid and there are further statements which demand citations. I will mention them explicitly if you want, when I will be free in a few days. As far as FA on HCl is concerned, it was promoted in 2005 and at that time the process was not very strict. I am sure if it is submitted for review, it will certainly be able to draw attention. Bye. DSachan 18:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are deliberately trying to be brutal. You have decided and so you are doing it. I think you didn't like 'crying for citations' phrase and that is why you are repeatedly trying to mention it. If that is so, I take it back and assume written 'demanding citations' in place of that phrase to let it be more euphemistic. I hope that works now. And by the way, I never said that citations were not required in 2005, but the very fact that this article became FA in 2005 suggests that the process was not very strict regarding citations. If it had been submitted now, I hope objections would have been raised on this issue. Bye. DSachan 12:31, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure why you've placed this link on my page. Thanks, but no thanks. I am a 6-day Creationist, and those views cannot be presented in Wikipedia, and the FOundation accepts only the Theory of Evolution. I certainly hope your religion is not treated the same way here. - BillCJ 02:31, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Evolutionary history of life

To me the page looks very good, but unfortuately I am mot someone that is very good with evaluating if a page meets the criteria of a Featured Article. You should try to find people that work with featured articles and see what they think of this page. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 16:12, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sushant, I came across this article that you created single handed and understand that you plan to nominate it for FA status. You may want to drop a note at the Evolutionary Biology, Biology and other related notice boards informing editors who are knowledgeable and interested in this area about this new article. You should be able to help you iron out any kinks that may be present in the current version, which will greatly increase the chances of it being featured. You are doing a great job with this and other articles that you have recently created! Cheers. Abecedare 18:40, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
