New version is out

The 1.3 patch for COD4 is out. Came out on December 6, 2007. http://www.infinityward.com/community/forum/index.php/topic,5159.0.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by RandomSchl (talkcontribs) 05:29, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Call of Duty 4's Location?

If anyone owns the game, you can clearly see the geographic location of the USMC missions is in Iran. I think instead of using the generic word of "Middle East" we should use the world "Iran" and "Iranian."ColombianConservative (talk) 07:25, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IW has stted that this is an un named country that they have created. So unless Iran is a figment of Infinity Ward's imagination this should not be added. IngeniusDodo (talk) 15:58, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is most definitely not Iran, despite being situated in the same part of the map. Al-Fulani is spoken of as having followed a "Kingdom", and this was all supposedly very recent. Given that it's been 30-40 years since Iran could be described as a kingdom, and has never been a democracy, it's pretty clearly not Iran. 'sides, I'm pretty sure the site of the nuke-blast is nowhere near where Tehran should be.Umlautbob (talk) 18:30, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It shouldnt, your username and userboxes obviously present some kind of bias no offense. Your unfound "theory" dont present any evidence besides look at it. Unless you can 100% prove that its actualy iran do not change it Esskater11 18:49, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey I'm just saying that I noticed the geographic location of the final level and decided to post it here. How nice of you to bring up politics in a video game page though, great job. Unfortunately for you my standpoint politically has nothing to do with this entry.ColombianConservative (talk) 06:52, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no possible way the game occurs in Iran. Some of the missions appear as if they are near Iran, but this, of course, cannot and in all liklihood will not ever be confirmed by the developers. Besides, early missions show the U.S. invading the Middle East from the Red Sea and making its way to a city near the Persian Gulf, where the nuke is detonated. Speculation: Since this is modern warfare, the game could take place in a fictional future where most nations of the Middle East have united into a single democratic entity before Al-Asad's coup. This is supported by the game showing battle locations ranging from present-day Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast to Al-Asad's unnamed capital city, which appears to be somewhere near Kuwait and Iraq, and Al-Asad appearing to control those areas completely despite the fact that his coup occurs in only one country; this would prove that the united Middle East is indeed a single entity that Al-Asad was able to take over, not several separate nations like in today's reality. Again, I stress this is speculation on my part. Anyway, identifying the nation is a sensitive issue, considering the U.S. is at war in the Middle East at present. Leaving the nation unnamed is the best course of action to avoid controversy at present. Comandante42 (talk) 20:54, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BTW i also thought the game took place near Saudia Arabia or yemin or whatever the hell its called. Its clearly not iran if you have ever looked at a map. Esskater11 22:46, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also why does everyone MAKE NEW SECTIONS AT THE TOP!!!!, there supposed to be at the bottom. Esskater11 22:48, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK I didn't realize the geographic location on the first level was in Saudi Arabia, my bad. I only came to the realization of the location on that last USMC level. Comandante is right when he says it goes across the Mid East. But then that brings up another question. Before the first Marines mission, the newswoman clearly says the US is invading a "small but oilrich nation." A country that stretches from Jordan to Iran is certainly not small. And I changed the name of this talk section's title, if nobody objects.ColombianConservative (talk) 06:52, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like it was just a mistake. They weren't really very careful about where they put the newsflashes-some center it in Saudi, some in Iran, and there's others everywhere in between. I bet you'd find the same inconsistency in the British cutscenes.Umlautbob (talk) 10:12, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its obviously a fictional nation near the gulf and saudia arabia. They most likely did this so the people around there wouldnt freak or something ridiculous. Esskater11 15:18, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"The Four Horsemen" Detail

Where was it first confirmed that Zakhaev and his allies were called the Four Horsemen? I know the Xbox 360 has achievements referring to them as such, but I do not believe they are ever called the Four Horsemen in the game otherwise. If that detail is some kind of outside research that everyone here has somehow bought into and has no concrete proof, then I think that it should be removed completely from this article, as it would be unverifiable and unneccesary. Comandante42 23:22, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Statements from IW devolpers. Fourzerotwo, grant colier. Eskater 23:47, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Even though the developers may have discussed it, I do not think that it is relevant to the article if the detail does not appear in the game. It should either be removed, or a note put somewhere that the antagonists are only referred to as "The Four Horsemen" by the developers, and not in any point during the game. Comandante42 01:33, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

done. good idea. IngeniusDodo 02:21, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of if it's valuable information or not, shouldnt "The Four Horsemen" list have at least 4 names? I see three... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 20.132.64.140 (talk) 17:13, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The fourth (or first, depends on how you view it.) horsman does not have a name. unless you can find us a reliable reference of his/her name then for now it should stay as is IngeniusDodo 18:17, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought the first horseman was Al-Fulani, because he was the first taken out, then when Al-Asad was killed he was the next red X Megadeth1539 (talk) 19:17, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm... This may be, but I doubt it. On the 360 version, you get the acheivement for killing the First Horseman after Shock N' Awe which is the last mission that you play as Sergeant Jackson. It is more likely, because of the time that the gamer points are received, that he was killed in the explosion and was pretending to be Al-Asad to draw as many troops into the blast radius. Either way, until we have a confirmation from a reliable source we cannot add any more information on him. IngeniusDodo (talk) 20:46, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It worked though, what about Nicholai? He had alot of info on the remaining horsemans, I'm not suggesting he is but is there any info on him? Megadeth1539 19:08, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Future tense

Some sections use future tense to refer to the game. ie, "the game will feature", "the engine will be able to". Can someone who has played the game change these statements to present tense, or remove them, based on whether or not the features mentioned were found in the final product? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.148.224.47 (talk) 09:37, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done. If another user thinks that I have done this wrong or feels that I have added incorrect information then they may change it back. IngeniusDodo 19:27, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Create-a-class Feature

Just for clarification, is this feature only available on Xbox Live? 72.197.137.142 05:10, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No it is not. All version of the game include a Create-a-class feature. IngeniusDodo 11:43, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I meant only on online gameplay. So does this mean that the create-a-class feature is only available on online multiplayer? 72.197.137.142 00:02, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you can not create a class for Call Of Duty 4's single player nor can you for split screen outings. Create a class is strictly a online only feature. NoGoodScoundrel 16:40, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cooperative play

Is anyone aware if Cooperative play has been discussed publicly by the developers? I have heard nothing of it, but it seems quite a big feature, particularly after Gears made online coop a selling point.

I don't know why there would be no coop, but you would think they would eagerly announce such an important feature. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.179.73.188 (talk) 17:30, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no Co-op play on the game. The only actual portion of the game you can play with other players is in the Online Multiplayer.

I believe that split-screen will be availiable in offline matches, if you consider that co-op. But there will be no co-op for the SP campaign if that is what you are referring to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.184.108.176 (talk) 23:55, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gameplay

Can someone rewrite this section, please?! I tried to read it multiple times, but refuse to subject my eyes to such abuse. 82.110.109.208 18:30, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I corrected most of the grammar just now, whoever wrote that section in the first place did a very bad job.. 63.198.104.56 20:17, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tis quite good now. Nice --Ace Face 11:11, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've rewritten the entire gameplay section, removing incorrect statements, and clarifying slightly correct statements, I've also added detailed Multiplayer information as well as the introduction to the perks section. Fourzerotwo

I saw a few days ago that there was a split screen mode but now it is gone. I know that they confirmed that there is no co-op campaign mode but hinted at there being an update for it soon. Is there a split screen online mode like in halo and gears of war where two or more people can go online and play? I've lookin for this for awhile and havent found an answer.Lakerfan666 19:40, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Game Engine

Does anyone know the name of the game engine (i.e., middleware) used in the development of CoD4:Modern Warfare? Is it third-party or in-house? Aeonassoc 15:18, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's an in-house engine. IWslothy 16:10, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would say that the jury is out on this one at the moment. IW have already stated that they had built and enhanced the engine used for CoD2, which means that Quake3 is effectively in the bottom layer. I'm not saying that there are not sufficient changes to the original Quake3 engine for it not to be called new, no one truely knows that yet. I'm waiting to see if the ID copywrite notice is still on the box.(Amstacey 19:42, 26 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

In the same vein, does anyone know if the engine (whatever it is) will utilize more than two CPU cores? COD2 seems single-threaded. Most newer games now will take advantage of two cores, so I assume that COD4 will at least use threading to some advantage, but is that threading hardwired to two threads max...or will it be able to fully utilize all four cores on a quad core system? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.104.37.18 (talk) 19:00, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the new game will be compatible with dual core enabled pc's. It will run on AMD Athlon 64 X2, and Intel equivalent processors. Also on the Call Of Duty website they have released patches for their older games, which will run using dual core. Clitton01 (talk) (UTC) 15:46, 29 November 07

List with ranks and unlockables?

At the moment there is a list online at a blog, which contains most of the ranks, upgrades and challenges.

Trailer

The flag bears closest resemblance to the crescent that is the famous sign of Islam and more specifically the Ottoman Empire. It is a common Middle Eastern symbol and many Islamic nations such as Pakistan have the crescent included in their national flag.

In the trailor, there is some guy saying things in what I think is either Arabic or Russian. Would anyone perhaps be able to interperet what he is saying? It sounds like maby some sort of speech, and the clips of a red flag waving suggest maby it is some sort ofArabic union thing like in Battlefield 2

Xaritix 05:37, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He was speaking Russian (look at the article), but that red flag looked Chinese. --*someone42* 01:07, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually dosn't look chinese at all, it looks like two swords crossing with a star above it or something. Also, could anyone interperet what the guy is saying at the beginning. It sounds like some speech or something.

Xaritix 04:54, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note the screenshot I took. That flag is probably the thing on his beret. By the way,he looks Arabic.--*someone42* 22:50, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In the background in the scene with that guy and some other person, you can clearly see a full version of that flag with the symbol on it. It looks simmilar to the MEC coat of arms in Battlefield 2. Also, the insignia on his beret looks like two flags crossing over eachother or something like that.

Xaritix 04:39, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I updated my older picture with the one with the flag in the backdrop. Notice how he's pointing the gun at the camera... --*someone42* 23:13, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I found a seorce that gives what he is saying

Xaritix 05:11, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added a translation of a Russian phrase, and I think all of the translations are now in the article. LK 02:20, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What the guy said in the trailer is in the full version later in the game. Megadeth1539 (talk) 19:19, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Platforms

The Platforms section needs to be updated, and most subsequent games should follow this: It should show XP and Vista, if compatible with both, or Just Vista, if compatible with that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.160.129.99 (talk) 22:15, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Concidering that there is no official statement on what platform this game will be released for I think it should be best that this section should be left as TBA for now.

It was announced for the 360,PS3 and PC in a review done by game informer magazine and IGN.com

and the intire devolpemtn staff has said the above(Esskater11 00:15, 18 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Since the article states the game is for Nintendo DS, shouldn't Nintendo DS Game Card be included in the Media part of the infobox thing? (Just being cautious) Djr13 06:10, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed reference of the DS version as they are completely different game and are unrelated gameplay details wise. The Console and PC versions are Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, however the Nintendo DS version is a completely different game and titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Note the drop of the "4" from the title. I think it's important we do not include these completely separate games in the same article as it is misleading to the reader, as the details in gameplay, and expectations of the game are completely different from the PC + Console versions and the Nintendo DS version. Fourzerotwo

Well, everywhere I see box art and ADs for COD4:MW for the Wii and DS. Is thi just a hoax because I don't ever remember them saying that they were making it for the wii or DS. The only time I ever saw and sign of them making it for the Wii or DS was when they released the box art of the version, which I think everyone just shrugged off as a joke. I did notice that wikipeda has it listed as "Windows, XBox 360 and PS3" and I was wondering if I should add Wii and DS. http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=180349 | I see that "fourzerotwo" cleared up the DS bit but at my local Block Buster they had an ad for a wii version. Is the Wii version completly diffrent like the DS one? The above is rather pointless I just copied it from a other part because I did't notice this. Balmazer

Rating

Just a thought, since there is an unrated version of the trailer (which I have not seen) and an age gate to the website, we can expect an Mature rating, right? --*someone42* 04:16, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not necessarily. COD has traditionally been Teen-rated. However, there is no need to speculate at this stage. --Scottie_theNerd 06:06, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw the "unrated" trailer and really didn't see anything that might define an Mature or 15+ rating, but the fact that there is an age gate to the website (letting people 17+ only) is a bit odd. --*someone42* 04:11, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
they just do that so they don't get legal bombardment or something like that. What exactly is in the unrated trailor? I can't play it for some reason on my computer.

Xaritix 05:19, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The unrated trailer is just an extended version of the rated trailer. (Note: I added a picture of the normal trailer down below). --*someone42* 22:43, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What exactly makes the "unrated" trailer so "unrated" exactly?

Xaritix 16:10, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know. Nothing unrated in it, just more scenes.--*someone42* 20:37, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It has been confirmed on the CharlieOscarDelta.com website that the game will indeed be rated M. My guess is this will be due to the violent cutscenes, as well as language.GaffneyT 14:20, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

. In addition to the basic classes like Heavy Gunner and Assault Class, this game will include Spec Op, Demo and a user customizable class creator. But to create a unique class, the player has to unlock the ability through a certain hours of gameplay. Only two of the classes are available to a first time player. The rest are unlocked as he/she gains more experience online and gains higher rank. Weapons

Although an offical weapons list hasn't leaked or released yet, the list in the article is obviously Incomplete, and If all the Other American Weapons are correct, Why are they using Heckler & Koch USP instead of hte Beretta 92 or Sig P228? However, I do speculate that the L85A2, AK-74 and PP-19 Bizon may be included.

Weapon lists are, by consensus, considered to be against WP:NOT and WP:VG/GL. Including a weapon list in the article adds nothing that a summary can't already do, while inflating the article with trivial information. --Scottie_theNerd 20:43, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with Scottie. I think a weapons list adds information about the game that none gamers and gamers alike would be intrested to know. I know that I buy games sometimes because they have a great weapons list. Remove No Source Tag?

What do you say. Most of the info on this page does have sources or is common knowledge for any future COD4 fan. It just makes the article appear to be all wrong rather than a few issues. Any other support for this? --zrulli 18:04, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Challenges, game types, weapons

When editing game articles, please consider the guidelines set out in WP:NOT and WP:VG/GL, and also consider the arguments at WP:INTERESTING and WP:TRIVIA. It is not essential for the casual reader to read an extensive list of weapons, game types and challenges, especially for a game that has not yet been released. Adding comments in the article disallowing editors from adding or removing content does not legitimise it. Only add in what is verifiable and notable. --Scottie_theNerd 14:16, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All the game types have been confirmed by Infinity Ward and on the multiplayer beta. It can be found on most articles written about the game informing of the game's multiplayer —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.45.66.201 (talk) 17:48, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As well as the strategy guide, who shows the final list of weapons perks and gametype included at launch. I did not see anything against it in WP:NOT and WP:VG/GL, so unless it would be moved to another wiki then maybe a list of weapons gametypes and perks in CoD4 would be a bit more suitable for this information 24.184.108.176 23:48, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Prestige Mode

In the Beta, Prestige Mode was said to unlock at level 55. Grant Collier (Infinity Ward, Studio Head) also stated in this video (cannot find the original video) that it unlocks at level 55. Yet, in this video he says that it unlocks at level 65. I believe that the latter was a mistake, and he mixed up the max level and the level that Prestige Mode unlocks (65 and 55). BF2MCguy 21:12, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You unlock Prestige mode at level 55, and there are ten levels of prestige mode (the 55/65 confusion probably started there). In each level of presteige mode you reset everything about your character (unlocks, etc. Not sure about the stats yet though) and you go back up to level 55 and reset again up to ten times. So if you want to get technical there are actually 605 levels. the original 55, then 550 for the levels you need to redo for prestiege mode. Max level is still 55 though.

Max level is 55 for PC users. There is no Prestige mode on PC 55 is the highest level you can attain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.184.108.176 (talk) 23:38, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just for the record, the maximum level in any version of CoD 4 is 55, NOT 65. This means that there are a total of 605 levels in the game, the initial 55 levels before the first Prestige Mode level, and the 550 for the remaining Prestige Mode levels (Note that the PC version may not have Prestige Mode, but the max. level is 55 nevertheless). The fact that it is 55 is supported not only by the official game guide (for both PC and console versions), but also in the game itself when you go to the Prestige Mode tab in the Multiplayer mode. Again, the max. level is 55 for all versions of the game, and any suggestion that it is 65 is misinformed. Its getting a little bothersome to keep having to revise this detail in the article. I think it bears adding that the musical theme of COD4:MW was composed by noted composer Harry Gregson-Williams, with the rest of the music by British composer Stephen Barton [who writes additional music for most of HGW's films]. Additionally, a soundtrack album for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare featuring the music of Stephen Barton will be released shortly. Hrhadam 19:53, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"at eleven" action?

This term is used in the Gameplay section to describe the kind of action in previous CoD games, but I've never heard of the term and have no idea what it means, nor can I find any explanation of it elsewhere on the Interwebz. It'd probably be a good idea for someone to clarify. 71.194.142.108 22:01, 5 November 2007 (UTC) It means the final hour. It's heart pumping action and it's stressful don't have much time feel to it. But that is less aparent in the latest installment in the series with Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare as it has more storyline and it builds unlike the World War II installments. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.12.195.60 (talk) 18:47, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it actually refers to 11 meaning forward in military lingo. Changed it to "straightforward". If anyone has proof that it means something else, you can change it back. However, I think an alternative term should be used anyway. Onikas (talk) 18:24, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Max level

i have seen a couple sources bending both ways on which is the Maximum level, 65 or 55. Personally, I recall reading that it was 55, and the 10 levels of prestige mode caused the confusion with 55 and 65 given AFTER the source currently being used was released, but I may be wrong. Can someone find me a reliable source with a definitive answer? P.S. if it is 55, the max level is 605 (not 550) and if it is 65, the max level is 715 (not 650) which is another error I have seen here becasue you add the base levels to the number of times you repeat prestiege mode, so (55+[55*10]) = 605 OR (65+[65*10])= 715 IngeniusDodo 04:01, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First Horseman

Shouldn't the first horseman be listed? Although he is never really mentioned or heard of, there is evidence of him. You get an achievement called The First Horseman after "Shock and Awe", which means he must have died in the nuclear explosion, or sooner. In the four horseman photos he can be seen wearing a face mask, and he could be the man who drives the car in the coup level. Also, he was probally the right hand man to Al-Asad seeing as which. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.161.170.199 (talk) 05:36, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

because The First Horseman dying in the explosion/him driving the car is merely speculation, and he has no/extremely little plot significance (as well as no name!) this shold not be added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IngeniusDodo IngeniusDodo 19:45, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry but isn't it possible that the First Horseman isn't a particular person, but also could be the nuclear bomb. On the 360 version, the level in which you get the First Horseman achievment is the same level in which the nuclear bomb detonates. So I think it's possible that the First Horseman is the nuclear bomb, even though it is an inanimate object. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yanxroksoxsuk1918 (talkcontribs) 07:34, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is most definitely an actual human being referred to as the First Horseman. As Al-Asad and Zakhaev the younger die, a cutscene is shown of a photograph of all four horsemen. As each horseman dies, a red X is put over their heads. The first time you see it, one of the subjects is already X'd out-this being after the explosion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.241.182.49 (talk) 03:35, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proprietary engine?

I noticed on the back of the game box, it states that COD4 uses software licensed from id Software. Should this be noted?--PCPP 05:59, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It can be stated unless you have a reliable information you already stated that you saw it your game box you can take a picture of the game box and post it here. --SkyWalker 06:48, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's been a lot of talk about it. When questioned about it, IW states that their engine is very proprietary. As they added in a lot of shading/particle effects comparable with all of the "next-gen" games. However, it's also been said that they license their base code from the Quake3 engine. In other words, it's a very, very heavily modified Quake 3 engine. However, I've yet to see an IW developer clearly state that. It may be out there, or it may surface sometime soon.

Should we add in the connection problems currentally occuring with multiplayer?

Any one else think we should add a section like that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.184.222.188 (talk) 01:54, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, as this is not adding information about the game itself and more about a technical problem. But yes there is a terrible lag problem unless your the host. NoGoodScoundrel 16:33, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar

I've never been great at it, so I hope some of you are better:

Shouldn't it be "A joint strike force breach the missle launch center and are able to abort the missle impacts." Or is this one of those cases where a word, such as 'class' contains multiple subjects be retains singular properties? And if so, would it still affect the sentence in any way? IngeniusDodo 15:29, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Their mission complete, the strike force attempts to escape from approaching ultranationalist forces, but an enemy helicopter destroys a bridge they are attempting to cross, cutting them off. Zakhaev and his troops arrive soon after, and begin executing the remaining members of the strike force. Griggs is killed trying to pull Soap to safety and Gaz is executed by Zakhaev himself. After Soap successfully uses the pistol to kill Zakhaev and his guards, the Russian Loyalist reinforcements arrive. Price is never confirmed to be dead or alive, though as the player is being loaded into the helicopter,a soldier can be seen attempting to resuscitate Price. After the final cutscene, a short news message plays, mentioning "nuclear missile tests" in Central Russia and some "leadership struggles" arising in the Ultranationalist party, and then reports on the failed attempt to locate a Russian cargo ship lost at sea (that the SAS infiltrated in the Prologue), implying that the recent police actions in Russia were conducted in secret, and were not public knowledge.
