A Mixed Mode CD is a Compact disc in which two different data types are combined. Typically the first track is a data track while the rest are audio tracks. The most common use for Mixed Mode CDs are to produce enhanced CDs in which a music CD is coupled with multimedia content.

The most obvious problem with the Mixed Mode CD format is that many CD drives have trouble reading these CDs. This is mainly because the data track is put before the audio tracks, resulting in old CD players attempting to "play" the data track, resulting in a horrible screeching noise which may damage your speakers. CD Plus, otherwise known as CD Extra solves this problem by placing the audio tracks in a session before the data track. Most audio players cannot see beyond the first session, so it does not try to play the data track. [1]
