El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera is an animated series produced for Nickelodeon and Nicktoons Network. The first screening of the show was on January 19, 2007 in the first ever Nickelodeon Creative Summit held in San Juan, Puerto Rico as a special treat for the 60 exclusive attendees (The Summit was lead by 4 of the main branch of Nickelodeon). Later sneak peeks aired on February 19, with the series television debut on March 3, 2007 for both networks. It premiered on the Canadian YTV on May 4, 2007. [1]

Premise

Manny Rivera is a regular 13-year-old boy who is having trouble using his powers as El Tigre. He wants to be good, but being bad is much more fun! His dad, a superhero known as White Pantera, wants Manny to grow up to be good and fight evil, but Manny's Grandpapi, a supervillain known as Puma Loco, thinks Manny should go to the dark side.

Opening Scene

A Ring of green fire unknown showing Miracle City with the sound of El Tigre's roar and the narrator said,


Miracle City!,the spicy cesspool of crime and villainy,This is the story of Manny Rivera better known as "!El Tigre!",son of a legendary hero "!White Pantera!",grandson of an evil supervillain "!Puma Loco!"


(Strange Puzzles of Frida ) Off to our left we see villains were chased by White Pantera and El Tigre but Off to our right Puma Loco and El Tigre were chased by police men,the next scene shows manny and frida begin to start a food fight but utill Vice Principal Chakal sends them to the detention, next scene shows Manny and Frida again riding on a cart util they run into cactus and smash into a giant leg belonging to the Alebrije Monster as they look up (then Frida quickly runs away) except for Manny who gets crushed by the Monster's foot, and the last scene shows the Rivera family and their feline alter egos.

El Tigre's Decision of Destiny

On January 25, 2008, Nickelodeon allowed viewers to vote on an ending deciding El Tigre's fate on a brand-new episode that premiered on the same day.[2] The ending chosen was hero, in which he defeated Django and Sartana.

Had evil been chosen he would have helped Django and Sartana conquer the world but turned against them to take the empire for himself.

McDonald's Happy Meal

On January 18, 2008, McDonald's Happy Meal featured El Tigre toys. They include: El Tigre, White Pantera, Puma Loco, and Señor Sinestro.[3]

Though El Tigre is a new show (aired officially in March 2007) El Tigre has been licensed in two video games so far; El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera (video game), and he is featured in the Nintendo DS version of Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots

During the battle against the Titanium Titan, Frida discovers that a giant robot's controller is an NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) controller with the crosspad and the A and B buttons.

  • It is revealed that Manny and the original El Tigre's mystical belt buckle come from the powers of Ancient Tigre Spirit, none of the Rivera villains had actual powers and used mech suits like Manny's grandfather, and that all of the Rivera heroes powers came from Bronze boots of truth like Manny's father.
  • El Tigre (the original) has the power to summon a giant tiger spirit. This is not too different from Chiro's (from Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!) ability to summon the power of primate, witch takes the form of a green gorilla.
  • The Day of the Dead is a real holiday. It is celebrated throughout Latin America on each November 2.
  • The episodes reveals that the Pantera Pit's entrance (The secret entrance to the pantera pit was behind the I on the miracle city sign. But on the nicktoons superstuffed game, were you have to rebuild the sign, the I is missing without a hole.) is through a door disguised as the "I" of "Miracle City" sign. But from earlier episodes and opening scene, the Miracle City words were just a sign with frames behind them similar to the Hollywood sign.
  • When Frida was trying to distract Sartana, she said that she would give her a makeover for free. But then she told her that if she doesn't look 110% better, she would give her her money back. How can she give her her money back if the makeover was free?
  • When Manny brings Zebra donkey home his eyes are green, but he's not wearing his El Tigre costume so they should have been brown.
  • Sartana of the dead attacking with her guitar is similar to the villain Ember in Danny Phantom as Ember also attacks and draws her power from the guitar.
  • The Villain Sartana of the Dead is a parody of Carlos Santana, the famous guitarist from Santana.
  • Zoe last name Aves, is a reference for another name for birds of the same name.
  • Black Cuervo's costume looks like the uniform of the Eagle Riders/G Force from the anime series "Battle of the Plants".
  • El Tigre means the Tiger, White Pantera means the White Panther, and Puma Loco means Crazy Puma. The Rivera family's ancestors are named alter-egos of the Feline family.
  • It has been revealed that Manny and Frida will end up together, in the "evil" flashback in "The Good, The Bad, The El Tigre" you get to see that Manny saves Frida and only Frida. They rule the world together. Manny would date Zoe for a few years (maybe in high school) before going back and Marrying Frida.
  • In Night of the Living Guacamole Grandpapi and Roldofo completely now-Guacamofied monsters. Then after invading Manny's room, Manny and Frida escape through the hole in the wall. As they run through the hole, theres full container of guacamole split on the ground,When the Guacamole was "sold out", Manny had to swing vines, run and swim to the Andes. But on the way back, he couldn't have held onto the guacamole because he had to swing on the vines back. The guacamole was actually floating behind him, or he was holding it with his tail,If the guacamole blasts destroyed walls, it should have done more damage to Manny than just melt part of his costume.
  • The song "The Atomic Sombreros" plays at the end of El Tigre El Jefe is the La Cucaracha the song used for when people wear fruit hats
  • Frida's tracksuit in Fool's Goal is the same as the one worn by the Bride (Uma Thurman's character) in Kill Bill.
  • In the beginning of El Tigre, El Jefe when Manny is walking down the road eating his ice cream, and Senor Siniestro held El Tigre in front of everyone else his scar is on the wrong eye.
  • Running gag in Mother of all Tigres When they show the flashback in "Mother of all Tigres" it shows Maria kissing Manny the age he is now with his scar, but after Maria leaves and Grandpapi moves in, it shows Manny at a younger age,1. Manny interrupting Maria to show her a new place in the city. 2. Maria randomly speaking of facts, pulls out a book, then says "Its a fact",on the cover of one of Maria's albums it shows Maria, Manny, and a goat walking across the road, similar to the Beatles hit album "Abbey Road",and in the two plumbers are dressed similarly to Mario and Luigi.
  • Bomb says Five... four... three... two... one... Happy Trails!(explodes)This could be an allusion to the Codename: Kids Next Door episode "Operation: Z.E.R.O." where the bomb says, "Five... four... three... two... one... Bye bye!" and explodes.
  • When Manny is working in the office in Mustache Kid,on his calendar it has a picture of an orange cat that says "No me gusta Mondays" which translated means "I don't like Mondays" which is an allusion of the popular cartoon cat "Garfield".
  • In Dia de Los Malos, Papi yells at Rodolfo for reading off the invitation to the Celebration of Heroes. Then Rodolfo comes out of the bathroom with a comb in his hand and obviously combing something as he mockingly says "You can't ruin my mood." But White Pantera already has his mask on, so what is he combing? His mask?
  • At the beginning of Miracle City Worker, when Manny and Maria first arrive at Casa del Mariachi, Maria is playing guitar left-handed (left hand strumming). Later, when Maria is singing to El Cucharon, she is playing right-handed (strumming with her right hand),Reply: She's ambidextrous.
  • In this episode, Frida acts like she never heard of the library before, but in The Mother of All Tigres, she knew what it was.
  • After realizing Frida is La Tigressa, Manny comments on how easily he should have been able to recognize her. This may be alluding to how many superheros have secret identities that would easily link them to their superhero counterparts if the characters used common sense.
  • In The Ballad of Frida Suarez marks the second appearance of Zebra Donkey.
  • When Don Baitti said "I'll get you, El Tigre, and your little 'stache, too!" This is a play on the Wicked Witch of the West's "I'll get you, and your little dog, too" line from The Wizard of Oz.
  • In Clash of the Titan We find out two things about the Titan in his episode. One, he likes churros, since he had such a high quality churro maker. Second, the Titan is still obsessed with Rodolfo/White Pantera, though this time to much more violent and extreme, "If I can't have you, nobody can" level, where all of White Pantera's and El Tigre's enemies are standing in front of them and they all beat them with simple punches, is a parody of "The Powerpuff Girls" opening,and Running gag of Every time Frida tries to join in with Manny, Rodolfo and the Titanium Titan, the Titan does something to get rid of her.
  • In Eye Caramba, when the Flock of Fury is spying on Rodolfo, in some shots they see basically what he is seeing. But in other shots they actually see Rodolfo and the glass eye as if something else was spying on him.
  • When the Titanium Titan says "Nyet" (Russian for "No"), he makes the Communist symbol with his arm.
  • A Mother's Glove,the college party where Maria is given the glove, Frida's parents can be seen talking in the background (the young Police Chief Suarez has bright blue liberty spikes), When Maria transforms into a superhero her eyes turn green, just like Manny's do, Why was grandpapi's liver medication in the attic? Isn't Manny old enough to not take random pills out of the medicine cabinet and eat them, When Manny and Frida open the box containing the glove Manny is in his El Tigre form. But when the glove escapes Manny's eyes are there usual brown instead of green.
  • In Golden Eagle Twins, when the twins, El Tigre and Frida save the orphanage from Robot Sanchez the lady who runs the Orphanage asks "How can we ever repay you?", you can see an orphan behind her playing with an El Tigre plushie.
  • In Tigre+Cuervo Forever when Manny gets distracted the 1st time, his game system looks like a Ninetendo DS
  • In Mother of all Tigres after Maria talks, all Grandpapi said was "I'll say"
  • The Golden Sombrero of Chaos is, of course, gold. The Bronze Boots of Truth are, of course bronze. The Mystic El Tigre belt buckle is silver
  • In Sole of a Hero when Manny says, "You're Super Macho!" to his Dad, it is a reference, to Jorge Guiterrez', one of the creators of the show nickname, "Super Macho." As known on his website, which is named after the show's company, Mexopolis.
  • Manny lives on a house on the top of a big building in Miracle City. The building name is Casa Del Macho. Manny's mom's former mansion was named Casa Del Mariachi.
  • There has been a running gag in the title cards, with one character standing closer to the image, showing only its feet and legs, while the other stands far in the background. So far, this is seen in Sole of a Hero, Fistful of Collars, and The Mother Of All Tigres.
  • There are a few references to Spaghetti Westerns within the show, Sartana and Django are both the names of heroes in a series of Italian Westerns. Both Leone middle school and Sergio are named after director Sergio Leone the latter being an Italian kid who dresses up like a cowboy. Furthermore the episodes Fistful of Collars,and a A Fistful of Nickels takes its title from Fistful of Dollars,and A Fistful of Dynamite.
  • Manny's name may be based on the name of Tony Montana's best friend Manny Rivera from the Brian de Palm movie, Scarface.
  • The opening card of El Tigre, el Jefe, which translates as "El Tigre, the chief" and where Manny helps his classmates to the point of establishing an authoritarian regime, is written in cyrillic alphabet and possess a red and yellow color theme along with a star. This is a clear reference to Latin American communist leaders that adopted dictatorial measures during their governments.
  • A running gag is whenever a Rivera decides to do something, they follow with a cry of "This I swear!"
  • El Tigre runs into Sartana of the Dead more commonly than any other villain. El Oso is next, then Dr. Chipotle, Jr.
  • In El Tigre, El Jefe, toward the end of the episode, Remy from Street Fighter III can be seen in the crowd. Plus, Chun-Li and Ryu can be seen in a few scenes of several episodes.
  • The Rivera Pet Donkey's real name is Little Mule
  • If you look closely, after the volcano explodes at the end ,and Manny and his father are listening to General Chapuza, Manny has his left hand. But remember during his fight with Django, he had to cut it off? The goof only last for about two seconds and vanishes after he starts talking.
  • When El Mal Verde falls into El Oso after fighting Manny in the first round, if you look closely Black Cuervo can be seen in the crowd but she never competes or is seen throughout the rest of the episode
  • Running Gag of Sartana mentioning villains then White Pantera followed by him yelling "Black Pantera" as his cover name.
  • Rodolfo's disguise to get into the tournament is his regular outfit except with a black jacket over the white one.
  • You can see in several episodes when Rodolfo transforms into White Pantera,his hat,blue tie and glasses just diappear.But in Bride of Puma Loco,he actually takes them off.
  • In Fistful of Collars,when the woman was hugging her lost weasel,you can see Frida in a small view without her pan helmet,but when they show her,she was wearing it.

Notes

  • Also at Comic-Con, Jorge Gutierrez said the concept of the show is partly based on his real life growing up in Mexico with an artist father and a grandfather who was in the military. He had seen his grandfather as "evil" and his father as "good", much like Manny's father and grandfather
