Revision as of 00:03, 30 October 2008

My wheel-warring policy:
Admins: If you see me make a logged action that you think I should not have done, I will not consider it wheel-warring if you undo it without asking for my permission. However, if I marked the action as being done after running a checkuser query, or as part of a sockpuppet investigation, you should ask me or another checkuser before undoing it. In any case, if you do revert one of my actions, I would appreciate it if you tell me that you did so. Thanks!

what do I do now

About this stale report, what do I do now? :( It's obvious that he will make POV edits again. I give him now another level 4 warning just admins can see it the next time that he gets reverted? --Enric Naval (talk) 21:44, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would just re-report him if he vandalizes again. J.delanoygabsadds 22:16, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll do that Meh, at the end I left him another level 4 warning, so it can't be said that he wasn't warned appropiatedly --Enric Naval (talk) 22:48, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Too fast

Whoa, nice reaction time on the vandalism of the Briar Woods High School page. I'm sort of jealous, though. --Flyingbox (talk) 22:14, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'm using a software tool called Huggle, so I can't take all the credit for that... J.delanoygabsadds 22:15, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see. I'll hold off on Huggle for a bit, I still need to learn the ropes of the place a little more. --Flyingbox (talk) 22:21, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Appreciate both you and Rlevse assistance on my user pages, that sneaky little rascal is really starting to get on my nerve. For laughs, I shall quote my wife saying this: "What's with this constant harassment by someone so fixated (wth!?) on you? I think you got a new secret admirer!". But it's the weekend again, so we shall all have our last laugh, eh? Cheers~! ...Dave1185 (talk) 23:09, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LOL! No problem. Actually, Rlevse will do most of the work, but I am happy to help in any way I am able. One of the things that annoys me most is when vandals make attacks on people like he is on you, so I try to combat them as much as I can. J.delanoygabsadds 23:17, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, it's all part of "Karma"... I exposed all his socks (due in no small part by his own admission to them) and in return, s/he takes time off every weekend to try something fresh. Such is life sometimes, makes for a good laugh too, eh? Cheers~! ...Dave1185 (talk) 23:48, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A question

Hello! I've seen you a lot around Wiki lately. I've been looking for someone to answer a question I've got. I hope you can answer it, or direct me to someone who knows. While going through the RfA's I noticed many people opposed RfAs because they felt that areas like anti-vandalism, new pages, etc. had too many admins. So what I'd like to know is, which areas have a dearth of admins? Because I'd like to concentrate my efforts where they're needed most. Thanks. Antivenin 17:07, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. Well, for one thing, I don't think there are too many admins on vandal-patrol and NPP. If anything, there are too few, especially in the really early morning UTC. In general, I don't know of any areas that need admins more than any others. WP:SSP quite often has a backlog, but as I rarely involve myself in sockpuppet cases that are not obvious, I don't know for sure. I'm probably not the best person to ask that type of question, since I almost exclusively work in vandal-patrol and newpage patrol. J.delanoygabsadds 17:26, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for replying! Well, I can't really be of much help at WP:SSP since finding sockpuppets is pretty random, and only admins can review/ban them. I'm not online during the early hours (UTC) and since the other admins say there are enough RC patrol admins, I don't know what to do now. Okay. Another question. According to you, what is the minimum time a person must be active in Wikipedia to RfA? (Assuming they have enough edits/experience) I've seen RfAs being opposed because of that, but there doesn't seem to be any concrete figure (months, years, whatever). Thanks again. Antivenin 19:10, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
At least 6 months of active contributing. Eight would probably be better. If you're really good, you may get by with four or five, but that is extremely unlikely IMHO.

I am more than 99% sure why you are asking me this. Take it from me: being an admin is not really that great of an accomplishment. If you try very hard to be an admin, especially if you consciously start involving yourself in areas that you normally wouldn't, you will be disappointed.
People at RFA tend to frown on users who actively attempt to become administrators. In fact, one of the main reasons I passed my RFA was because I declined to involve myself in areas of the site that did not interest me simply to make myself more attractive to people at RFA. From the standpoint of empirical contributions to the project, as opposed to the project's contributors, as a vandal-fighter, being an admin only really means that I can just do stuff myself rather than reporting to AIV, RFPP, or by tagging pages for CSD. Which, while nice, is not particularly interesting, nor is it that enjoyable.
The only really nice part about being an admin, for me at least, is that I can usually help people if they ask me. For basically my entire time here on Wikipedia, I have fought vandalism. A freaking lot of vandalism, if I do say so myself. Because of this, my username shows up frequently in literally every corner of this site. As a result of this, people often come to me to ask for advice or help, and before I became an admin, I had to send people elsewhere many many times simply because I was technically unable to help them. Vandal patrol is, by and large, a solitary job, and it is not rewarding from the standpoint that all (read: 100%) of your contributions are buried in the page history. Writing articles actively improves the site, fighting vandalism only maintains the status quo. (This is somewhat of a chicken-and-egg situation, but the point is that vandal-patrol cannot, by itself, improve this site.) The single most rewarding thing I find on this site, and indeed the primary reason I continue to contribute here, is the knowledge that I am able to help people solve their problems. Thus, the rewarding part of being an admin, to me, merely means that I am able to help more people than I could before. That's it. If that is what you are looking for in adminship, you will be satisfied. If you are looking at it for pretty much any other reason, you will get bored with the tools before you have had them for a fortnight. J.delanoygabsadds 20:25, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Lol. I liked this: "I am more than 99% sure why you are asking me this."
Yes, I'm looking at being an admin (eventually), I just didn't know what the minimum time-frame for applying was. And I wasn't trying to hide that. If it seemed I was, I apologize.
I like to measure my progress by (I'm searching for the right word here) clearly defined figures (numbers, data, whatever). Like edit count, article count, number of people helped, etc. So if I stayed on Wikipedia not doing anything (read:not "progressing") that would be very disappointing for me. Thus being an admin isn't a goal, per se, just another way to progress. I don't know if you understand what I'm trying to say... But I hope you get the idea. Antivenin 07:54, 26 October 2008 (UTC)okay, i've been thinking about it and i suppose another reason why i'd like to be an admin is because i'd like to be less dependent on admins while reverting vandalism..[reply]

Protection of Yemen Floods

If you look at the history, you'll note that only one vandal has repeatedly vandalized; 216.211.125.193. There was only one other IP vandal who had 1 edit, and then another helpful IP who reverted vandalism.

So; do you think 2 weeks is really necessary? It was only one guy. And, given that this is a current event, we'll most likely have lots of updates; would you mind if I unprotected? Thanks, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 00:16, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

heh, oops :*) I unprotected it. Thanks for bugging me, and sorry for the bother of having to come here and yell at me. J.delanoygabsadds 00:18, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nono, I wasn't yelling! :P I was just concerned because I expanded the article and put it on the main page, and given my horrible article-writing skills I wanted as many people to improve as possible. :P Keep up the good work! Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 00:21, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again, bro.

It seems that if one is going to extend an olive branch to a Wikipedia vandal, it must first be assumed that said vandal has some common sense. Obviously, our "Simpsons" friend is lacking.  :) I am absolutely convinced that he has an open acount at User:Westwind2009. I left a sock notice on the page which went unchallenged (typical Lyle123), but the account remains open and I've reported it twice. Can you do a bruddah a favor and slap a block on that account? Much thanks. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:43, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll keep an eye on him, but I am reluctant to block an account with no edits that is not have a blatant violation of the username policy. Having gone through that experience at another wiki, I don't want to unintentionally drive someone away. Sorry. J.delanoygabsadds 00:48, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you want, I can ask a checkuser to look at it. J.delanoygabsadds 00:49, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me. If it isn't Lyle, please feel free to delete my notices. There were no edits cretited to the account when I tagged it, not even the user page. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:51, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You apparently have to have hard evidence before they will perform a checkuser. If you want to file a request on his other socks, you probably would catch a few stray ones, but there is nothing else I can do here. Sorry. J.delanoygabsadds 01:44, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

unusual name

I know this is not a social page <g> but there are not all that many "delanoy"s in this world. If your family is from Massachusetts, you are a cousin (the families in the Plymouth area are all related at this point, it seems). Collect (talk) 02:05, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. If you would like to continue this conversation, please do so via email. J.delanoygabsadds 02:07, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The user has gotten a whole stack of warnings, perhaps a wikibreak might be in order so they can read over our rules? They have avoided getting blocked by editing a lot, then not at all, then a lot again, but I think they have had enough overall warnings now to warrant some sort of action. --Terrillja (talk) 02:18, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RfA

1. Have you ever been blocked? Nope

2. Ever had an Editor Review? Nope

3. An RfA? Nope

4. What (if any) horrible skeletons lie in your editing closet? I once had to put myself on wikileave because I just got so frustrated with another user. A newbie tried to report me to admins for deleting his edits (which was agreed by all that it was spam) and I was just so frustrated, feeling like I did all this work to help Wikipedia for nothing. I was back within a week.

5. Got much recent experience at AfD? Recent, no. I have voted in several AfDs before.

6. Are there any major mainspace contribs or other subsantial edits that you are particularly proud of? Yes, I worked very hard on the Rainbow Brite article, and started the Emotionally unstable personality disorder article. I also recently tried to clean up the Abby Sciuto article which was labeled as sounding like a fan site. I occasionally go through the list of articles needing copyedit and clean them up.

7. Is there anyone else who has expressed interest in nomming you for adminship? Yes, User:Shicoco said she would support me.

8. Is there anyone specific you would have particularly liked to nominate you? (If yes, I can ask them if they would like to co-nom.) You and Shicoco would be fine. :) RainbowOfLight Talk 02:57, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll proceed further as soon as I can. Maybe tomorrow, but I doubt it. (Gahh!! Homework...) J.delanoygabsadds 04:31, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, just let me know. By the way, can I "steal" your dropdown that says "did I block you, delete your edits, or do something I shouldn't have done?" I'll modify it slightly to show that I'm not (yet) an admin. RainbowOfLight Talk 03:29, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, go ahead. The code is on User talk:J.delanoy/talkheader. Cheers! J.delanoygabsadds 03:31, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Whoops, lol, thanks for the edit. You caught that FAST. RainbowOfLight Talk 05:03, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. No problem. I have your talk page on my watchlist, and I saw you add the header. I wondered what part you used, so I took a look and saw that. I can imagine how much fun it would be if I was getting yelled at for edits you made. I would have gone out of my mind, and I probably would never have figured out where they were coming from. :P J.delanoygabsadds 05:08, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to message

Hey thanks for the message. I read the article you provided. As far as the quote goes, I wrote differently than what I meant. I don't do all the contributing just so I can become a sysop. What I meant was that if being granted these privelages would help me fight vandalism easier. If I am nominated for adminship someday, I would accept and would like the idea of becoming one. Like I said, those privelages I am applying for is not 100% imperative to me. I fight vandalism, patrol new pages, and participate in AFD discussions because I have fun when I do it. Either way, it's not a big deal. Sorry if I sounded that way, though. BTW: What was that Page Protection message you sent me about? I didn't request one. Beano (talk) 04:21, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind. you hit the wrong button. No big deal. Beano (talk) 04:21, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(with regard to first, non indented message) Oh, in that case, please accept my apologies. I unfortunately have an unnerving tendency to jump to conclusions sometimes, and there^^ you go. Again, sorry. J.delanoygabsadds 04:27, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem my friend. I do get what you're saying though. I get messages from people that's only goal is to be an administrator and I think it's pointless. I do what I do because it's A LOT of fun, and it's a semi-productive thing to do to pass the time when I'm bored. My goal is pretty much the same as what you said in the reply you linked me. It's really fun keeping things in ship-shape. Helping new users is the most fun I get out of doing what I do. Would I like to admin? Sure, but not bad enough to pour hours, days, and months, and even years into Wikipedia just so I can have the power. Beano (talk) 04:44, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are right certainly

Please teach me what should I do? I don't like worthless edition war. Need third persons help. I'm sorry, I annoy you and Rlevse.--Bukubku (talk) 03:16, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just go to Wikipedia:Mediation or Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal like Rlevse said. J.delanoygabsadds 03:17, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps a different tactic?

I noted your efforts to address a situation on Rlevse's talk page.[1] A technique I've found sometimes helps is to break the thread, so to speak, and change venues for the discussion. In this case, perhaps moving the conversation to the user's talk page might be helpful. He's a pretty new user, and probably needs some help understanding how to get things going for a mediation; it might be helpful for someone of your experience to sort of show the way, help him to raise the question on the talk page of the article, and so on. Just a suggestion that you might find useful to de-escalate the situation. Best, Risker (talk) 03:19, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like he is going to start proceedings, so yeah. I hope they can get their dispute resolved. Whenever an ethnic conflict is involved, things get nasty very quickly. J.delanoygabsadds 03:28, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your, Rlevse's and J.delanoy's help. I ask involved parties. I have little knowledge of Wikipedia's rule and English. Please teach me continuing.--Bukubku (talk) 03:44, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have to get some sleep now. I do not know if I will be able to help you or not. I am going to college, and a lot of times, I have to do schoolwork when I get home. J.delanoygabsadds 03:49, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi you have written this on my talk "Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. J.delanoygabsadds 15:16, 27 October 2008 (UTC)"

But the links, in my humble opinion, are not inappropriate, because the page contains java applications opensource that implements the algorithms descibed in the articles. For these reasons i would insert the links and not for spam.

Well, to be honest, now I'm not sure if they were inappropriate or not. The primary reason I reverted you was because you were adding links to lots of pages in quick succession. J.delanoygabsadds 17:09, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I appreciate your honesty, if you want i can post here, or in the relative pages, the links so you can control them. Thanks--Angelus1383 (talk) 17:27, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate deletion

I am extremely angry and upset that you have deleted the 'Orsumball' article as 'pure vandalism'. That is completely untrue and is a blatant abuse of your power. With all due respect you do not live in Clayton, Melbourne, Australia so you probably wouldn't have heard of Orsumball. That is why a wikipedia article was created to inform others of this sport.

If there is a particular aspect of the article that should be corrected that is one thing, but to delete articles for no reason other then that you have no knowledge of the content is abhorrent. Unless you recognise and correct your inappropriate actions I will be taking my complaint to a higher authority.

I hope you realise I am deeply and personally offended by your actions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lewy 4466 (talkcontribs) 16:16, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mercantilism

Hi,

You just reverted an edit I made on the article on Mercantilism. Before my edit, the opening read "Mercantilism is the idea that a colony should export more goods than it imports and that a colony should sell at higher prices and buy at lower prices". This is inaccurate because this policy was followed by colonial powers and independent states, not by colonies. The role of colonies was to provide the markets with which colonial powers could maintain a trade surplus. Otherwise, it would be the colonies that accumulated gold and silver, going against the perceived interests of the mother country.

I checked and the version of the article that you restored has been in place for a while, but it is wrong. Check, for instance the link below:

http://www.econlib.org/library/Enc/Mercantilism.html

Thanks!

Thank you for your prompt response. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.13.219.250 (talk) 20:41, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question

I was blocking this vandal and the following question occurred to me: What's the difference between being blocked infinitely and being blocked indefinitely? I wasn't sure. SpencerT♦C 21:47, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This would me my guess, even though I'm not an administrator: Being blocked infinitely must mean forever and ever; being blocked indefinitely probably means for an unknown amount of time, which could be approved or not by a user's unblock request. I have always seen vandalism-only accounts being blocked indefinitely, but that's my guess. SchfiftyThree (talk!) 21:51, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The reason for that, Schfifty, is because "indefinite" is at the top of the list of suggested block times, while "infinite" is at the bottom. For the most part, there is no practical difference between the two, since an "indefinite" block will not expire until an admin lifts it, same as an "infinite" block.
IMO, the distinction is only useful when dealing with established users. Blocking an established user "indefinitely" could mean, "You have been blocked until [insert problem here] has been resolved.", whereas blocking infinitely would mean, "See ya!". When dealing with simple vandals, "indefinite" is preferred solely because it is easier to click on. J.delanoygabsadds 22:02, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rfa Decisions

Hi. I would like some help. I want to change my mind on this request for adminship from oppose to neutral. Do I just cross out my oppose and write something new under neutral? Ollie Fury Get ready for October 31 22:49, 27 October 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Yeah, just strike your oppose and indent it (perhaps leave a small note telling where you moved your vote) and then just write whatever you want in the neutral section. J.delanoygabsadds 22:51, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. I seem to have made two votes, oppose and neutral. I don't know how to void the oppose without messing up the numbers. Ollie Fury Get ready for October 31 23:12, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed it. All you have to do is add a colon after the number sign. J.delanoygabsadds 23:17, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I tried that but must have done something wrong. Thanks. Ollie Fury Get ready for October 31 23:18, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User requesting deletion

Please see User talk:IRP (Post: Re: Do you want this deleted?) -- IRP 22:51, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent block

Hey, JD, did you know that this user is a sock puppet of Serafin? I wouldn't call that user a vandalism-only-account, but rather a sock puppet of Serafin. Your choice! SchfiftyThree (talk!) 23:42, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was not familiar with that sockpuppeteer's modus operendi, so I just blocked as a VOA to be safe. J.delanoygabsadds 23:44, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I'mv new at this, so I'm not putting in a lot of references. I saw that you deleted an addition of the zuguide external link from the Cate Blanchett article. I happenned to see zuguide for Cate Blanchett before you deleted it, it looks like you are not the first, and I really don't understand why. I really like zuguide's Cate Blanchett page, I love movie trailers, and movie stills. On the zuguide help pages, it says the material is licensed. I read through the external links guidelines, it also seems to fit those, since it seems to complement wikipedia, it's a rich media site, is not copyright violation, it's free, and you don't need to register. In other words, I read through all the external link guidelines and it seems to fit.

I actually use external links in wikipedia quite a lot, since unlike google searches they are more reliable. In this case, I think deleting this link (and I presume others to zuguide) is unfortunate. Please let me know what you think. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Movietrailerfan (talkcontribs) 00:10, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I honestly do not remember making that revert. It may have been in error. J.delanoygabsadds 00:19, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you check it out? Respond, and if you think it's right undo your change? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Movietrailerfan (talkcontribs) 01:26, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think an appropriate response here would be to ask you a few questions. For example, your account is an awesome 40 minutes old, and yet you know
  1. How to use a page history
  2. What a talk page is
  3. That I am an administrator (the only logical explanation why you did not simply re-add the link)
How is that?
Also, why are you contacting me now about an revert I performed four days ago on another user? J.delanoygabsadds 01:34, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair. Let me answer your questions. I did some wikipedia editing about a year ago, but stopped, because the things I added, including just spelling errors were reverted, it was just very frustrating. I had a login, but I can't remember the login or password. I do have over 20 years experience in programming so figuring out a page history and talk page, was pretty simple.

As I wrote earlier, I saw the link to zuguide.com when I looked at the article, tried out the link, liked it, but then it was gone, and this upset me, because this seems to happen all the time in wikipedia. So I decided I should do something about it, or at least learn about it. I read some of the guidelines about Third Party and stuff like that, but the pages said the best thing to do before anything else was to "Talk" to the user who reverted the entry. I figured I could just add it again, but that would just be begging the question, this time, if I'm going to get involved, I want to figure out how it works, so that I don't just add to an entry and find it deleted 10 minutes later.

On your page, it says fairly openly that you an administrator, so I figured you are a good person to ask. Your answer was a bit disappointing, because you said it might be a mistake, but I figured since you willing to admit that possibility you would be a good person to answer my questions.

In any case, can we get back to the question at hand? And let me ask another question, given that you are an admin, can I just undo your undo? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Movietrailerfan (talkcontribs) 11:55, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep. Anyone can undo anyone else (except for obvious stuff like blatant vandalism, and as long as they are not edit-warring.). Administrators don't have any special status here, just expanded technical abilities, which they are only allowed to apply in accordance to establish practice and policy. As far as the link goes, it makes little difference to me whether or not the link was there. I apologize for not assuming good faith. If you want to re-add the link, I personally have no opinion, good or bad, regarding its inclusion. Thanks, J.delanoygabsadds 12:56, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page redesign

The Main Page Redesign proposal is currently conducting a straw poll to select five new designs, before an RFC in which one will be proposed to replace the Main Page. The poll closes on October 31st. Your input would be hugely appreciated! Many thanks, PretzelsTalk! 08:59, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Morning, Mr. Delanoy. I'd like to let you know I was interested in your chess game. Do you mind indefinately fully protecting it so that vandals won't blank it/start a game without me knowing?--Stereotyper (talk) 10:46, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you are asking. If I fully protected it, that would defeat the whole purpose of asking people if they wanted to play with me. J.delanoygabsadds 13:00, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

You're right; we didn't. I wasn't sure how to respond to that one! :-)  Frank  |  talk  14:04, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

See User_talk:Slrubenstein#Block_template. Trying to work around an odd error message! Tim Vickers (talk) 15:57, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, as you just introduced me to the Wikipedia :-) I have to annoy you with a question. I'm not happy with the contributions of 69.117.237.203 as it only consists of inserting links. These links are of no quality as it is a BLOG with embedded videos from kickapps.com/videos (therefore now own or unique content) and additionally every visitor of this site gets to see heaps of ADVERTISING. I do not see any sense in keeping these links. As I'm not 100 % sure if I can just remove all of them myself, or if I have to "ask" someone to do so, or if Wikipedia is happy to see these links as no one else has done anything against these links yet. Thanks in advance and sorry for annoying/stealing your time. Cheers --Aff123a (talk) 18:51, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No you don't have to ask anyone. If you see something that you think shouldn't be there, change it! That's what Wikipedia is all about! Just use common sense, and you should be fine. As far as our spam-happy friend, it looks like all the links he has added have been removed. Some useful templates to warn people like that may be found at WP:UTM. If he keeps doing it after receiving a level four warning, report him on WP:AIV. Hope that helps. J.delanoygabsadds 18:59, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help. Cheers Aff123a (talk) 19:04, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey J.delanoy, just reminding you that a edit suammry should have been used here opposed to rollback [2]. Not a clear case of vandalism. Thanks, Tiptoety talk 19:29, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't actually remember making that edit. I'm pretty sure I thought he was testing something. I generally revert all editing tests with the default edit summary, but thanks for the note. I'll try to leave a more descriptive edit summary in the future. J.delanoygabsadds 19:38, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. :-) What it looks like to me is a IP who is just a bit confused as to how en.wiki works, but by no means malicious. You might try engaging him, if you so please. Tiptoety talk 19:40, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pennsylvania

Are you from PA, or is it just on your watchlist? By the way, I found your list of random things on your userpage hilarious. GrszReview! 19:58, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No and no. I am using a software tool called Huggle to fight vandalism. Huggle scans Special:Recentchanges and it sets up a queue of diffs made by editors not on its whitelist. Each diff is sent to me to see if it is vandalism or no. If it is, I can hit one key to automatically revert the vandalism and issue an appropriate level warning to the vandal. So what happened was, someone vandalized Pennsylvania, Huggle saw the change and sent me the diff, and I reverted. Also, I'm glad you enjoyed my list. IMHO, User:Thingg's is better, but yeah. Have a good evening! J.delanoygabsadds 21:11, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I just saw you reverting that one pretty frequently so thought I'd ask. GrszReview! 22:20, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey i was wondering why my page was deleted it was not a copy right violation sorry about not signing thanks Joseph

Hi Airguitarducks.
I didn't delete it because I thought it was a copyright violation, I deleted it because it did not assert notability. You may wish to also read our guide to writing your first article. J.delanoygabsadds 00:03, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanks when i can find notability i will try and re-write it. i wasn't sure how to start it out so i just tried i'll work more on it later thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Airguitarducks (talkcontribs) 00:42, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Frobisher Bay

Hello... seems you beat me to it with the block. Anyway, there is no need to revert yourself and leave the material in; it was not in the article to begin with, and is completely uncited. I've offered to assist Stan with sourcing the material, but he has chosen instead to ignore that in favour of repeatedly adding it. --Ckatzchatspy 17:19, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I think it is kind of hypocritcal for my to block him for edit warring and then revert his edits, but I don't know. I'm 99% sure that that was the first time I have ever blocked someone for 3RR. J.delanoygabsadds 17:25, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There's clearly a lot of sockpuppetry going on here - see Bay and James Bay and many others Stephenb (Talk) 17:22, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can probably add User:Fred Jeremy to the list. (I guess it's a slow day in Frobisher Bay.) Thanks again. --Ckatzchatspy 17:32, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did some looking around. They are all socks of Swamilive. Block on sight in the future. J.delanoygabsadds 17:50, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is similar vandalism of both Hudson Bay and Southern James Bay. Are these Swamilive socks too? Gary Tremblais (talk) 18:22, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have no doubt that you think you are awesome, Swami. Nice try, though. J.delanoygabsadds 18:26, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If a true statement is made, what right do the mods have to decide it is vandalism if they know nothing regarding the issue stated?

berlin

why are you undoing my corrections? i have been added one reference and fixed some tags. please use the talk page if you disagree. TaborG (talk) 23:49, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I undid my change on Berlin. Did I forget to remove the warning? I'll check. J.delanoygabsadds 23:50, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did not see a warning. But you just reverted again, 3RR by now. What's happening? 00:00, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
I;m sorry, there is an absolutely insane amount of vandalism now. I undid my reversion, and I told Huggle to ignore you. Sorry this is so terse. J.delanoygabsadds 00:03, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
