Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

Javier.darsie → Bicho.Bolita

Bureaucrat note: There are accounts by the name of Bicho.Bolita on it.wiki and de.wiki. Are those accounts yours? bibliomaniac15 05:34, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Frankski → Frank Ski

Bureaucrat note: Frank, what are your intentions with your account? Are you here to help Wikipedia or here to promote yourself? Please read Wikipedia is not the place to post your résumé, NOTWEBHOST and Conflict of interest. You are welcome to use your real name here, but you mustn't make edits that promote yourself or your company. Kingturtle (talk) 17:51, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Uuddlrlrba → DanielChoe

Clerk note: User "DanielChoe" is not registered. Please see WP:CHU instead. ClueBot VI (talk) 04:37, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Moved. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 09:20, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Uuddlrlrba, what are your reasons? If DanielChoe is your real name, do you understand the potential dangers of using it on Wikipedia? Kingturtle (talk) 17:53, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gisolutions → InvestmentInterest

Bureaucrat note: Please confirm a) you have read WP:COI and WP:SPAMMER and b) that you understand that these apply regardless of your username. --Dweller (talk) 14:09, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Subodh_deshpande → Subodh_Deshpande

User: Paul David Wilson → Paul David Wilson

That's standard: Everybody's name requires user user:I'm Spartacus!, User:Keeper76, User:EVula, it is part of the programming of Wikipedia that identifies the type of page that we are looking at.---I'm Spartacus! PoppaBalloon 23:01, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done --Deskana (talk) 23:19, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
User:Deskana---I'm Spartacus! PoppaBalloon 23:23, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Uhh... yeah? --Deskana (talk) 23:24, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just being silly with the USER: prefix... I hadn't mentioned you in my list of examples, thought you might feel excluded ;-)---I'm Spartacus! PoppaBalloon 23:28, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You know, I was going to say something, but I decided not to moan :-p --Deskana (talk) 23:31, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pwallace67 → Bookbiz

Not done Please choose a name that is not promotional. bibliomaniac15 04:30, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Celestineagency → Celestine Agency

To make the name more distinguishable. Celestineagency (talk) 22:57, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: This appears to be a violation of our SPAM policy/guidelines related to user names. You aren't to use promotional user names, such as company names. Would suggest reading wp:COI and WP:SPAM and consider another user name.---I'm Spartacus! PoppaBalloon 22:58, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Would also suggest just creating a new account as this was the only edit from the above account.---I'm Spartacus! PoppaBalloon 23:24, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Promotional usernames are not allowed. bibliomaniac15 04:30, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pressmart Media → Shaker123

Clerk note: Hi, you need to be logged in when you submit your request for a rename. When you're unblocked (after an admin has reviewed your unblock request on your talk page), log in, come back to this section of this page and sign your name with four tildes (~~~~). Also please confirm that you've read WP:COI and WP:SPAMMER and that you understand that those apply regardless of your username. (stolen from Dweller above) Regards, Matt (Talk) 06:41, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DanielBC → ...ellipsis

Done Renamed to User:Ellipsis. To fix up your SUL, have your old "DanielBC" accounts renamed into "Ellipsis" on the other wikis where you do not yet own the name. bibliomaniac15 01:20, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mawber → MAWBER

Not done I've moved the subpage; since that's the only stated reason for the rename, I'm marking it as not done. EVula // talk // // 23:38, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pressmart Media → Sekharseo

Yes, I read all WP:COI and WP:SPAMMER and my new username is not doing any spamming. Please change my user name. Pressmart Media (talk) 05:45, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, but it's not your username that does the spamming. It's you. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 06:27, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am not a spammer. I am just trying to add some additional information. Pressmart Media (talk) 10:04, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Zdickson7 → GuitarGuru7

 Done EVula // talk // // 23:39, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Definitely wanted a rimshot to play when I read the reason. ;) EVula // talk // // 08:20, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Venu Ravichandran → Oscar V. Ravichandran

(V) Stands for Viswanathan , there is no pet name for V. Ravichandran. In film industry they call Oscar Ravichandran .

In your website there is already one more V Ravichandran was there. That’s why the title changed to Oscar V. Ravichandran.

Some of your editors changed the name to Venu Ravichandran. Please change this name title to Oscar V Ravichandran and (Redirect Oscar Ravichandran) in this page. I try to make this correction in other sites also. thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Englishone (talkcontribs) 07:47, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done You're confusing a user rename with a page rename; see Wikipedia:Requested moves instead. EVula // talk // // 08:18, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Knippschild → Alpha 4615

JoBeSi → Vici
