Handel opera project

Re your note, I don't claim to be particularly knowledgeable on GFH, although I love the music. I'd be happy to join the project in some role or other. One particular thing occurs to me: last year I created List of operas by Mozart and brought it to FL. I am currently working on a similar list of Richard Wagner's operas. I would be happy to work on the Handel opera list, either generally or on some aspect of it. I'm pretty busy at present, but I'll always find time for a music article. Hey Nrswanson, thank you for the 50 DYK medal; that's a really nice one! As for Lockwood -- nope -- these days I'm curling up with Norman's fiction. Rosiestep (talk) 16:42, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi NR, I've listened to Performance Today regularly for several years, and have never heard "What Makes It Great" on the show, nor can I find any evidence that it still airs on the show. Do you have a citation/link that confirms this? Thanks. Softlavender (talk) 18:38, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks so much NR. Ya know, when I logged off Wikipedia after querying you, I decided to find the contact info for the show and wrote them an e-mail. Fred himself wrote right back and confirmed! "Yes indeed, in fact Rob is doing a brand new 'WMIG' segment for Performance Today for the 200th birthday of Mendelssohn, coming up next week." I guess I never wake up early enough to hear the first hour of the show, and maybe that's when the WMIG usually airs. :-) Thanks again for the trouble. Opera Portal

Hi. Thanks for the message. I have no idea how to retrieve old DYKs. Here are the names and dates of my DYKs that *might* be relevant to the opera portal, but I am not sure, because I have no idea what the hooks said. Feel free to use any of them if you can retrieve them:

  • 1 October 2006 Harriett Everard
  • 9 October 2006, Fred Sullivan
  • 9 October 2007, Florence Perry
  • 26 October 2007, John Hollingshead
  • 22 November 2007, George Sheringham
  • 3 February 2008, Euphrosyne Parepa-Rosa
  • 25 March 2008, Signor Brocolini
  • April 28, 2008, Julian Sturgis
  • 11 May 2008, Amy Evans
  • 18 September 2008, Emily Soldene
  • 1 November 2008, Frank Wyatt (singer)
  • 12 January 2009, Alice May
  • 12 January 2009, Hamilton Clarke

By the way, if you are interested in featuring any of the G&S show articles, the best one to use is currently Trial by Jury. Thespis (opera) is a great article, but the show is relatively obscure. If you would like to feature any of the G&S performer articles, the best ones are George Grossmith, Rutland Barrington and Jessie Bond. Dravecky (talk) 15:57, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was looking at this article, but I couldn't understand it, and since you made many edits to this article, I don't know if you could help with this: Im currently working on a song's article, a-ha's "Take on Me", the sheet music said that the lead singer's vocal range spans from A3 to E6, so my question is how many octaves are in between, isn't A3 for women or it had something to do with the falsetto at the end of each chorus? Sorry to bother you, but I don't know anything about musical structure, and you seem to know a lot about this. Thanks in advance for your answer. Frcm1988 (talk) 08:17, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thank you I think I understand a little more. So the best way to know how many octaves his vocal rang spans is with the hertz frecuency used in the scientific pitch notation, so A3 is equal to 220.00 Hz and E6 is equal to 1318.5 Hz, and using the ratio of frequencies for an octave 2:1 , the vocal range between A3 and E6 is nearly two and a half octaves?
Sorry for not be clear in the first question, I wanted to know how you can tell the number of octaves between the two notes, but I didn't see the article of the scientific pitch notation, but again I don't know if what I do is right. Again thanks for the clarification. Frcm1988 (talk) 20:24, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok again thanks for all your help. Frcm1988 (talk) 20:43, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Opera project banner

FYI, Kleinzach had removed all the opera project tags from Victor Herbert articles. The articles mostly follow the musical theatre project guidelines, rather than the opera project guidelines. This is also the case for Romberg, Friml, etc. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:02, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have no problem with it, and I am delighted that you want to improve the articles. I would just ask that you put the roles table after the plot synopsis in each article. I like the plot synopsis to be as high up in the article as possible (after the background/history section), because that is what most readers want to find out about. See, for example, Rose Marie (operetta) Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:40, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A very brief idea of the plot is good in the WP:LEAD, but it should only be a sentence or two there. Can you please put the roles table below the synopsis? I would really appreciate that. Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:52, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Victor Herbert

Please add in-line citations to the sources where you are getting all the new information. Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:01, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message. Please leave the list of operettas (and all the refs in it, which represent a lot of work) until you are finished with your new list. -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:39, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Superb job with the article! I increased the rating to B-class. You need to add page numbers from the books to show where you found the information discussed. I set up the refs for you so that all you need to do is fill in the page numbers. -- Ssilvers (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When can you get to the page numbers? Best regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 07:36, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. I appreciate what you are saying, and I don't want to cramp your style. The content that you have added is excellent, but I urge you to add page numbers for what you already have written before adding any more detail. I agree that more detail can be added on the topics that you mentioned, but I think the referencing is of paramount importance. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:45, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page name change

Hi. I notice that you made a change to the name of a page here. I'm fine with changing that name, but I wonder if you could provide me with a quick list (or point me to where such a list exists) of what needs to be done when changing a page name. Obviously it is easy to create the new page, but what about all the links that point to the old page? Whereabouts is the page redirection stuff handled? Thanks in advance.  HWV258  21:44, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
