TEENick was a television block aired on Nickelodeon that was launched in 2001. The teen-oriented programming block took the position of SNICK, which started in 1992. It aired on Sunday nights and some Saturday nights. It was originally hosted by Nick Cannon and then by J Boogie. Nickelodeon dropped the TEENick name in early 2009.
History
TEENick premiered in 2001. When J Boogie started hosting TEENick the block added a segment titled, TEENick Spin the Bottle.
In 2005, the teen-oriented block took over SNICK (the network's long-running Saturday-night program block). SNICK was ultimately replaced by TEENick. At that time TEENick began to play a variety of shows on both Saturdays and Sundays until 2007.
In February 2009, Nickelodeon dropped the TEENick television block and announced that it would rename The N to TEENick, which is to occur September 30, 2009. It is likely the schedule will remain as it has been with the rebranding with some new programming, though with a clearer focus on audiences aged 9-14 to compliment Viacom's 'cradle to grave' network strategy of guiding older teenage viewers towards MTV.
