On April 10, 2007 WZDC-LP moved to channel 25, as the channel 64 frequency was slated to be phased out of television broadcasting. Although there are no analog TV channels now broadcasting, which could interfere with WZDC's signal after the mandated June 12, 2009 analog shutdown, WZDC currently has no plans to increase its signal strength to cover a wider broadcast area, nor to convert to digital transmission, thereby still severely hampering its ability to adequately cover the Baltimore/Washington area.

WZDC-CA is a low-power Telemundo affiliate in the Washington, DC area. The station is owned by ZGS Broadcast Holdings, and broadcasts on channel 25 from a transmitter located in the Northeast region of the District of Columbia.

History

WZDC-CA signed on as W64BW channel 64 on January 25, 1993, as Washington, DC's Telemundo affiliate. On December 1, 1995, the call letters were changed to WZGS-LP, reflecting the station's owner. On June 27, 2000, the call letters were changed to WZDC-LP.

On June 3, 2002, the station started a local Spanish newscast, in cooperation with WRC-TV.

On April 10, 2007 WZDC-LP moved to channel 25, as the channel 64 frequency was slated to be phased out of television broadcasting. The move was also required in order to expand its coverage area throughout the metro DC area, including most of Prince George's County in Maryland. When the station was on channel 64, it broadcast with an effective radiated power of 12.5 kilowatts, covering most, but not all of D.C., and was barely viewable outside the capital; cable coverage was necessary to serve the surrounding areas. Howeever, neither DirecTV nor Dish Network offers WZDC's local signal in its channel offerings in the Baltimore/Washington area, in comparison to its competitor, Univision 14 WFDC. At the present time, channel 25 is still barely viewable throughout the metropolitan area, as viewers in eastern Montgomery County (around Burtonsville), Howard County and Anne Arundel County in Maryland cannot receive its broadcasts. This is probably due to interference with the signal of WHAG-TV in nearby Hagerstown. Viewers in Arlington County, Virginia, closer to channel 25's transmission tower, also report the inability to view WZDC's broadcasts.

Although there are no analog TV channels now broadcasting, which could potentially interfere with WZDC's signal after the mandated June 12, 2009 analog shutdown, WZDC currently has no plans to increase its signal strength to cover a wider broadcast area, nor to convert to digital transmission, thereby still severely hampering its ability to adequately cover the Baltimore/Washington area.

WZDC's callsign was modified to have a "-CA" suffix on October 3, 2008; this reflects its status as a class A station.
