OBSERVATION: It would be nice if the first sentence of this article was reworded to be less misleading. The phrase "currently plays for ____" is misleading if it is known as a fact that the player was not returning to said club. There should be a sentence added to the lead paragraph in all of these situations so that A) people who are unaware of current events do not become confused, and so that B) people who are aware of current events do not feel the impulse to edit the article with poorly documented information. |

Ignore everything I just wrote. He hasn't passed his medial check yet. You can't consider a transfer finalized until he's cleared his physical. I was under the impression that he had passed his physical In South Africa. "who currently plays as a left winger for Liga Sagres club Benfica." is liga sagres a contry? should be portugueses club S.L. Benfica... not liga sagres club.
Link to Arsenal
Until a concrete source (or even Tribalfootball) mentions the link to Arsenal, it can't be on the page. If you have a link post it here. PlayCollective 03:34, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Rubbish
This has been confirmed as a hoax on numerous sites. Until Arsenal.com confirm a player joining, they should not be listed as an Arsenal player
Most correct way of this name
It should be Ángel Di Maria. First of all, I don't understand why you just put "Angel" without accent. The Spanish word and the name also need it. Secondly, Di Maria is an Italian surname. Some Argentine people tend to put accents in lots of non-Spanish surnames and that's wrong. You'll see "Píccoli" but not "Schnéider". Why? Just because people may not know the origin of the surnames so they make a mistake. I find the UEFA website justification very vague. Are they some language academy? According to that and what you justify, they make a mistake in Bojan Krkić, because there's no "ć" in Spanish. Of course, it's a Serbian surname an it needs a "ć", as Di Maria doesn't need an accent since it's Italian. Just because everybody does it wrong, doesn't mean here, in Wikipedia, we have to do it wrong as well. I know you won't change this and many other names with the same problem, but I want at least people see how things really are.
Little Angel Is he really called the little angel? He's 5'10 1/2" according to the infobox, which is pretty tall for an Argentinian really. If it's not referenced in a month or so, or someone at least verifies it here, I'm going to delete it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.83.108.10 (talk) 14:45, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Real Madrid transfer
Terms have been agreed between the teams, according to the Real Madrid website, they do not say the player has signed a contract they say he will sign and the player is in South Africa and highly unlikely to sign a contract until he returns. Until he signs a contract officially he is a Benfica player and the article should show him as such until we have a reliable citation that he is official not a benfica player. Tuesday 29th, Guardian an unnamed Benfica source told Portuguese media that the deal was not yet concluded. Trading of the club's shares were suspended pending a statement.http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jun/29/real-madrid-angel-di-maria
ADP news, Benfica says Di Maria transfer not concluded yet - report
(ADPnews) - Jun 29, 2010 - The transfer of Argentine midfielder Angel Di Maria to Real Madrid FC, announced on Monday, is not concluded yet, a source close to Portuguese premier league soccer club Benfica (ELI:SLBEN) told news agency Lusa.http://adpnews.info/?nid=25a7335b6a6d57af
Still not clear . Off2riorob (talk) 14:06, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
It's getting clear now, today the notice it's on benfica's website http://www.slbenfica.pt/Informacao/Futebol/Noticias/noticiasfutebol_futdimaria_290610_63775.asp Also, in the spanish diary as.com says that he signed via Fax from south africa http://www.as.com/futbol/articulo/di-maria-ficha-anos-madrid/dasftb/20100629dasdaiftb_66/Tes. XavierHD (talk) 17:19, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for those links Xavier.this one from Benficas announcement is in the lede now.
This one is interesting from Diario_AS translate claim of signing by fax (is that legal? and just needs to pass a medical. Off2riorob (talk) 16:34, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
It seems to be legal. But it is the first time i read that situation. Maybe, maybe, he will sign a real contract after in madrid, but it's sure that the transfer was done. XavierHD (talk) 17:19, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
I agree it looks like it is a done deal, we are lucky in that we are not a news agency and we can afford to take a good look at the issue. I have added the fax detail to the lede and I feel it is plenty for the time being, to me he will not actually be a Real Madrid player until he is standing beside Mourinyo being introduced having passed his medical. If he was to comment that would be great, something like I am a Real Madrid player now...At one point the shares in Benfica where withdrawn from the market but I have not found a citation that they are back on the market yet.Off2riorob (talk) 17:27, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes you're right, we only can wait. But, in the lede there is this line that says "there were still reports that the deal was not yet finalized. There was no statement from di María who is currently with Argentina at the World Cup." From the guardian.co.uk right? That notice was posted before the confirmation on benfica's website (in Portugal, football clubs have to go to the "Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários" http://www.cmvm.pt/en to confirm the transfers. This had delayed the negotiations). So i suggest to replace that line and make the header as it is in the David Silva article (he will join manchester city, and he is in the world cup too). XavierHD (talk) 19:39, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
That does look alright. As per the Silva article. I could support something like that. I have tweaked some of the doubt out of it. Better? Off2riorob (talk) 19:58, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
This is a good reflection of what I was commenting about, in this citatioon at Silvas article there is a quote from him saying ..yes I am going to Man city and I say ggod bye to the other team and am looking forward to playing to Man City...we have nothing like this from Angel, do we? http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Team-news/2010/June/Manchester-City-announce-signing-of-David-Silva Off2riorob (talk) 20:24, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Really better, thanks. And no, we have nothing that clear from angel hehe, i know what you're talking about. Check this out, Di Maria talk. XavierHD (talk) 20:31, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- Cool, thanks for the translation link, almost a statement but not quite. Best. Off2riorob (talk) 20:44, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
This has been confirmed multiple times on Real Madrid official website. However, it seems that the smaller details of his contract are not announced as closed but his transfer is announced as closed. Here is a link to an article from today that talks about Di Maria as a de facto Real Madrid player: [1]--76.170.29.216 (talk) 03:00, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
