Lualaba Province is one of the new provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to be established by 18 February 2009 by dividing Katanga Province into four parts, under the 2006 Constitution. The capital of Lualaba Province is Kolwezi.
On 30 Jun 1963, the province of Lualaba was separated from Katanga. Then, on 24 Apr 1966, it was united with Katanga Oriental to form Sud-Katanga, which was later merged back into Katanga.
