Pape Sy (born April 5, 1988 in Loudéac, France) is a French-Senegalese basketball player who is a member of the Atlanta Hawks and currently on assignment with the Utah Flash of the NBA Development League. A versatile combo guard/swingman, Sy was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks as the 53rd overall pick in the second round of the 2010 NBA Draft[1] after spending five seasons with STB Le Havre of the Ligue Nationale de Basketball.[2]
Biography
Pape Sy was born in Loudéac, a small town in north-western France to a Senegalese family.[3] He learned to play basketball in a local club. Sy later moved to Massy[disambiguation needed] before joining Le Havre's youth club in 2004 at the age of 16.[4] While playing in France, Sy was recruited by the University of Wyoming basketball coach Fred Langley.[5]
Sy's older sister, Penda Sy, was a professional basketball player in Europe.[4][6]
