Types of knife steel

I have moved this article to your userspace so that you can work on it. It's located at User:Abc123456person/Types of knife steel. ... discospinster talk 03:30, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Standard and Proprietary alloys

We need to discuss and agree on referencing standard alloy names - List Of blade materials Citing Bohler for ASTM/SAE is not correct way of doing this. ZviJ (talk) 18:52, 17 October 2011 (UTC)ZviJ[reply]

Image syntax

Oh! Is it? My apologies. I'd never encountered it before and I did check WP:IMAGES, but couldn't find anything documenting it. It might be better to try to use similarly proportioned images anyway, if we can, so that they all show more or less the same size and level of detail. Thanks for letting me know, anyway. --McGeddon (talk) 21:03, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Grackle

Hi, you can sign your messages using four tildes ~~~~. Apologies, the tag went as unintended collateral damage when I reverted the addition of an inappropriate taxobox Jimfbleak - talk to me? 17:56, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've put the picture back Jimfbleak - talk to me? 18:00, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There is a problem with a taxobox on this page. The earlier one was clearly inappropriate, since it applied to just one species. The current taxobox is, in my view, also incorrect because it is for the whole family, not just the grackles. I don't want to get into an edit war on this, so some suggestions
  1. Make it a disambiguation page as you suggested, so no picture, no taxobox. — I think this is a good solution
  2. Leave as article, revert to image only, since family taxobox is not appropriate — I'm fine with this too
  3. Leave as is. — I'm not happy with that for the reason above
If we can agree on the first or second options, the problem goes away. If not, rather than reverting each other, I'll raise this on the project to see if there is a consensus for one of the options. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:18, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There is no such thing as the grackle family, that's why we have this problem. The family is Icteridae, which includes the grackles, but also other species. The grackles are an assortment of icterids which resemble each other, but aren't a single taxonomic entity. Species or genus taxoboxes excludes some grackles, the icterid box you have added includes many non-grackles. Incidentally, I don't think there are any clean-up or MoS issues left, apart from the taxobox. It might be more appropriate to add a tag requesting references instead, but I'm not going to be drawn into another argument, so I'll leave that to you. I've asked for comment here Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:44, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I saw three messages on my talk, but I don't know what they are about, maybe I inadvertently deleted a message when I was clearing old stuff yesterday? I don't think I've edited grackle for several days now. A taxobox for Icteridae is clearly inappropriate for just some of the species in the family, and changing the name in the box doesn't alter that. I've made my point, and life's too short for edit warring on this when there are more constructive things to do. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:19, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I answered your question

You have new message/s Hello. You have a new message at ᐅ's talk page.

how do i make it to where when you click on a picture it links to a article? Abc123456person (talk) 22:39, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You can use "|link=" pipe to achieve this but you should not use it like that normally. On Wikipedia images are expected to link to their copyright information page to properly credit people. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 22:49, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Huh?

What the heck are you talking about? All my edits to the article were improvements. I see nothing that requires cleanup in my browser, so how can I be expected to tailor it for yours? Do please remove all the external links from the list, though. They aren't permitted to be used the way they are being used in that list. Yworo (talk) 18:43, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, your complaint related to the use of the "expand" template. However, that template is not even used in the article, so there was no work to do with respect to a complete non-issue. I have to say that your post on my talk page just sounds pissy in light of the fact that there was no problem that needs fixing. Yworo (talk) 18:48, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Steel terminology

The stand-alone article was deleted because the whole section was originally a copyright violation. It cannot be put back into List of blade materials either, because it is a copyright violation. Yworo (talk) 23:45, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, List of Windows operating systems

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, List of Windows operating systems. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - List of Microsoft Windows versions. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at List of Microsoft Windows versions - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Funnyfarmofdoom (talk to me) 04:46, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
