Gabbar Singh is a 2012 Telugu action film directed by Harish Shankar. The film is produced by Bandla Ganesh under Parameswara Art productions banner and stars Pawan Kalyan and Shruti Haasan in lead roles. Devi Sri Prasad, who previously worked with Pawan Kalyan in Jalsa, composed the soundtrack for the film. The film is an adaptation of the 2010 Hindi film Dabangg.[5] The film was released worldwide on May 11, 2012.[1] The film set a box office record for the Telugu Film Industry by collecting a gross of more than ₹1.5 billion.[4] The film was later dubbed in Hindi as Policewala Gunda and Theatrical trailer was released over YouTube by GoldminesTeleFilms on June 14, 2013.[6]

Critical reception
The movie received extremely positive response from movie-going audiences. 123Telugu.com termed it as "A Solid Entertainer".[7] Idlebrain.com termed it as "Pawan Strikes".[8] Greatandhra.com termed as "Power of Pawanism".[9]
Box office
Gabbar Singh created a new opening day box office record and subsequently created the records for the highest grossing weekend and highest grossing first week in the Telugu film industry.[10] It also stands amongst highest openers ever in the Indian film industry. On its first day the film grossed approximately ₹18 crores generating a net share of approximately ₹13 crores.[10] The film has collected a record net share of ₹42.55 crores worldwide with a record first week share of ₹28 crores from Andhra Pradesh alone.[11] [12] At the end of two weeks the film has collected a record share of ₹51.85 crores world wide.[13] The total three weeks share of the film now stands at ₹58 crores.[14] The film has grossed more than US$1 million at the United States box office.According to Business Standard website, the film has collected ₹128.75 crore (US$15 million) gross in three weeks.[15] The film has completed 50 days in 307 centres on June 29, 2012.Sources add that "Gabbar Singh" has also registered another record of running in 250 direct centers.[16] The film has shattered the box office collections records and has created a new history by raking around ₹63 crores share after 50 days run.[17] According to India Today website, Gabbar Singh has emerged as the highest grossing Telugu film by grossing more than ₹150 crore (US$18 million) in 60 days worldwide.[4] The film has completed 100 days in 65 centres on August 18, 2012.[18]
Home media
The VCD's, DVD's & Blu-ray Disc's of the film were released by Sri Balaji Videos on August 22, 2012 on the occasion of Mega star Chiranjeevi's birthday.[19] The television rights were bagged by Gemini TV for a price of around ₹6 crores and was telecasted on January 14, 2013 on the occasion of Sankranthi festival.[20]

Soundtrack
The soundtrack of the film was composed by Devi Sri Prasad. On April 15, 2012, Pawan Kalyan along with Bandla Ganesh, Harish Shankar and few others visited Tirumala, where they released the first song from the film. Soon after that they went to Visakhapatnam and visited Simhachalam Temple where they released the second song from the film. The audio was released on April 15, 2012 through Aditya Music label and audio launch event took place at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad on the same day. Popular Telugu actor Kota Srinivasa Rao lent his vocals for a song in the film. Lyrics for the two songs were penned by Sahithi and remaining songs were written by Ramajogayya Sastry, Chandrabose, Devi Sri Prasad and Bhaskarabhatla.[24]

Remakes
The original Hindi film Dabangg, directed by Abhinav Singh Kashyap, was remade in several languages and still found success in the respective regional cinemas. The film was remade in Tamil as Osthi in 2011 which was also directed by S. Dharani. Malaika Arora appears both in Hindi and Telugu versions while Sonu Sood reprises his original role in Tamil.
