Gomez's ancestry

Can User:Geelove13 explain why they keep making this change to the article, with no discussion or explanation? All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 21:53, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Her mom is FULL italian descent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geelove13 (talkcontribs) 23:28, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What do the references say? --Geraldo Perez (talk) 23:34, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Gomez is of "Mexican and Italian heritage" per the New York Daily News.[1]
Fresno Bee is paywalled, so I can't validate what is in that source.
Gomez says "My mom's Italian" in the ShowBizCafe interview,[2]
The fourth source is silent on the issue.
I don't see anything about degree of Italian-ness in any of the readily verifiable sources, to support either assertion of her mom being partially Italian or fully Italian. —C.Fred (talk) 23:53, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you say the Fresno Bee is paywalled? I swear I don't subscribe to anything to do with it, and I can see it. It is archived at this link. It dates back to July 28, 2008, and it says, "Because Gomez's father is from Mexico, she has been able to attend many family quinceñeras. But the actress, whose mother is half-Italian, did not have her own. That has not stopped her from enjoying others.". This newspaper was not copying Wikipedia, because (and anyone correct me if I'm wrong), Gomez having Italian ancestry was not added to the article until August 8, 2008. On August 28, 2008, an editor specified that her mother is "of half Italian ancestry", using the Fresno Bee as a source; that editor, as it turns out, was me. This statement has been in the article fairly uncontroversially since that day, until Ashleyhudgens (aka Geelove13) started removing it. Since we still have the reference, and there's no new information on the matter (other than Gomez's mother being adopted), is there a reason to change this now? All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 00:20, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Because I'm getting a message that the archive link is not valid, so Wayback Machine is sending me to the live web, and the Fresno Bee has old stories archived for subscribers only. Something in the Wayback Machine is not playing nice with my browser, apparently. I'll go with your access to it and the quote you've got there. —C.Fred (talk) 00:25, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm getting the same thing, and I've tried using multiple ISP's, multiple computers, both crApple and Android tablets, IE8, Firefox (both PC and tablet versions), Safari, Mercury and Google Chrome. --AussieLegend () 00:48, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Same here. I suspect that All Hallow's Wraith has a Fresno Bee account and just isn't noticing that he's being redirected. I've blocked Geelover13 for block evasion, BTW, so I wouldn't expect her to pop up and edit any time soon.—Kww(talk) 00:52, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if I have a Fresno Bee account, I'm certainly not paying them anything, and it says "Subscribe to The Bee" at the top of my page. Perhaps I'm not being re-directed because I have my Javascript turned off? I knew it had more benefits than drawbacks. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 01:06, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's it. If you can still turn off your Javascript, turn it off, and click on the link. It won't take you anywhere else. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 01:12, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Java script is the problem. Try this link http://www.webcitation.org/6Fdmh7v27 a bit of a kludge but it does capture the content. Geraldo Perez (talk) 01:19, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

better picture

70.114.248.114 (talk) 06:39, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There have been a gazillion requests to change the picture since August last year,[3] and the image has been changed numerous times. --AussieLegend () 11:31, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

well who changed it to that? just saying, not the best pic. 70.114.248.114 (talk) 05:32, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The picture of selena Gomez is from 2012 and it is 2013 So i think you should change it — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.35.226.245 (talk) 23:51, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to upload a 2013 image and do it yourself. Really, how many times do we need to change this image? It's beyond ridiculous. --AussieLegend () 09:26, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We need to change it for the better as many times as the opportunity to do so presents itself. As is, the picture in the infobox is a crying shame: too close a crop that cuts off the head, while she looks like on Qualudes. What I particularly object to is the ridiculous notion that the latest picture, chronologically, is the picture to lead the article with. Bollocks. Take a look at Audrey Hepburn or Liv Tyler, particularly talk:Liv Tyler#New Image. Meanwhile, I will look for a better picture to do justice both Selena and Wikipedia. --Mareklug talk 03:50, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Audrey Hepburn uses an image taken 36 years before the actress' death because it's a good image. The preference here, based on previous discussions, is simply to update to the latest, but not necessarily the greatest, image; that's why it gets changed so often. We should pick a good image and stick with it, then replace it eventually with a better image, but that's not what people want, as the IP's post demonstrates. There have been much better images in the article in the past, but they were removed simply because they were too old, and by too old, I mean months, not years. The image in the article is only 5 months old. --AussieLegend () 11:42, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Indeded, that was the issue at Liv Tyler. Well, let us not cave in to ignorance. --Mareklug talk 18:44, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And so I have put in our best Commons picture in the infobox. --Mareklug talk 18:54, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that was the image I was looking at shortly after my last post. Great minds think alike. --AussieLegend () 19:04, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
She is younger in this picture, this picture was taken about 6 years ago. This does not make sense. I hope you will change picture to 2012. Regards. --Oz Steps (talk) 19:14, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You seem unable to understand English, despite your claims on your user page that you are a native speaker. What part of "we use the best image we have to lead the article" don't you understand? This was laid out for you both in this discussion and on the Liv Tyler talk page. Despite that, you AGAIN went to forcibly inserting the latest Liv Tyler picture you are pushing, despite its bad quality and the comments by 3 other users. Your ANI review is underway, and if you do not start editing in a collaborative, consensus-obiding fashion, I will be forced to recommend your global indefinite block. --Mareklug talk 20:01, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oz Steps is just Chace Watson back again. He's blocked now.—Kww(talk) 23:16, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Image

The infobox image being used right now should probably be changed. It's not of the best quality and is from 5 years ago which is quite a long time. I'd recommend changing it to:

Even though this image is old as well, it isn't as old and is of much better quality.

Jjj1238 (talk) 20:22, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is it really? The image has very poor contrast, especially with her dark hair against a dark background. —C.Fred (talk) 21:10, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with C.Fred ,but a new image is in order.--88.111.123.67 (talk) 19:39, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ruderless

Someone needs to add this new movie to her bio. http://www.deadline.com/2013/04/william-h-macy-rudderless-selena-gomez-anton-yelchin/ It was announced a month ago. — Preceding unsigned comment added by StarsDance (talkcontribs) 11:34, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

'Girl Rising'

Selena Gomez had a voice-over in 'Girl Rising'. That must be mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.129.217.210 (talk) 19:23, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What is Girl Rising, and what's your reliable source that she's in it? —C.Fred (talk) 23:39, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 7 July 2013

Please change the filmography, Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire have to be in Film, even being a TV movie, there's others TV movies and it's on 'Films' list, please fix it.

Allgayerlipe (talk) 06:21, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved TV movies to the Television table where they belong. Someone must have moved them. Thanks. --Musdan77 (talk) 02:52, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Artistry

I think that the comment on auto-tuned needs to be removed because it's just someone's opinion! you could just put in another one contrasting that! And comparing her to Demi Lovato, has nothing to do with it! The comment was rude!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sccon (talkcontribs) 05:30, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As disturbing as it is to use the word "artistry" in conjunction with Selena Gomez, I removed the statement because it wasn't appropriately sourced, nor is there evidence that the quoted person is a recognized authority.—Kww(talk) 05:48, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

History with Taylor Lautner

Yes, they very well could have dated, but People has become more tabloid over the years, though better than many sources. Also, their "facts" about Selena and Taylor seem dubious. Again, I am not saying these two have not dated, but, like what was done with Justin Bieber, maybe Taylor Lautner should be left out, or be written about in a more neutral fashion until/if Selena says "Yes, I did date Taylor". Just my two cents.76.221.158.199 (talk) 07:47, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 18 August 2013

Personal Life In 2011 Selena gained publicity when it was confirmed she was in a relationship with teenage pop star http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Bieber. In early November 2012, it was reported Bieber and Gomez had ended their relationship after approximately two years of dating.[120][121] The couple reconciled later that month.[122] However, in January 2013, it was reported that they had broken up again.[

Why such a weird and old photo in the info box ???

The info box is the first impression that goes to whosoever opens up a page on wikipedia and Selena Gomez has a very old and weird photo of herself over there which doesn't really show how beatifull and Grown up she is ! Please change that picture , I have recommendations aswell = http://www.onsecrethunt.com/wallpaper/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Selena-Gomez-2013-in-Car.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GgkwtFFJqBQ/UQrY07qZEpI/AAAAAAAAss0/YFUJUCCFMwU/s1600/Selena-Gomez-2013-Dream-Out-Loud-05.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by IbrahimAlavi (talkcontribs) 16:45, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
