Ever After High is a doll franchise released by Mattel in the summer of 2013. It is a companion line to the popular Monster High dolls, however in this line the characters are based upon characters from fairy tales and fantasy stories. Ever After High was released in the fall of 2013.
Storyline
The Ever After High storyline is based upon the children of famous fairy tale characters attending the eponymous high school. They are destined to follow in their parents’ footsteps to keep their stories alive through generations, otherwise their stories will cease to exist. However, Raven Queen is unhappy with her destiny and wants to write her own path. The school gets divided into ‘Royals or Rebels’: those who know they will have a happily ever after, and those with less favorable destinies together with those who prefer the idea of creating their own destiny.
Dolls
Ever After High dolls are somewhat comparable to the Monster High dolls. Ever After High dolls have rounder faces (also more of "baby faces") and thicker limbs. Apple White and the other girls are the same and very comparable to the typical female dolls in Monster High. However, Maddie Hatter has a thicker version of Howleen and Twyla's body. They are movable at the usual places of the Monster High dolls.
Characters
The cast is composed of two types: the "Royals", characters who look forward to the destinies promised to them, which mainly includes princesses and other 'liked' protagonists, and the "Rebels", characters with either less favorable destinies, have a problem which prevents them from following their parents, or are fond of the idea of writing their own destinies. There are also other characters who lie with both sides, or those whose allegiance is not clear.
Apple White
Apple White is the daughter of Snow White. She has jonquil, pale hair, and fair skin, to go with. Apple wears pink lipstick with gloss in the doll-merchandise, and red in rest, which is actually, to say, a little more pretty. Being an old -lore/folklore of fairytales, Apple White's "Magic Touch" is calling animals and other creatures. They only obey her because it's prison, I'm sure. Apple's favorite foods are anything with chocolate.
Raven Queen
Raven is the daughter of the Evil Queen and the Great King. As Evil Queen's daughter, she is forced to by the Ever After High world's rule and law to follow the path of her mother. Judging by how similar Raven's Basic outfit is to her everyday clothing, Raven is more than possibly Queen Grimhilde's daughter. She slammed the Book of Legends of her own "destiny" in "The Tale of Legacy Day", and pledged to follow her own path. She is voiced by Erin Fitzgerald.
Briar Beauty
The daughter of Sleeping Beauty and Apple's best friend forever after, Briar is a stylish, party-loving teen, although she has a tendency to fall asleep at random times due to her destiny as the next Sleeping Beauty. Briar does her best to support her friends, but often falls asleep at inopportune moments when they need her the most. Briar has been shown to have one-track mind, trying to squeeze in as much fun as possible before she is cursed to sleep for a hundred years. She is very keen on risky fun, such as willingly jumping out a window and setting up a bungee jump on the school's turret. However, Briar has also displayed very good study habits, possibly to make up for her falling asleep in class. Briar is voiced by Kate Higgins who also voices the Disney version of her mother, and her scheme colors are light pink and off-black.
Madeline Hatter
Madeline Hatter, also known as Maddie, is the daughter of the Mad Hatter she is officially the second main character of the story. She has a magical hat that she can take anything out of and put anything into, because she is from Wonderland, which sadly was taken over and destroyed by The Evil Queen, who is Raven Queen's mom. Despite all of The Evil Queens doings she is best friends forever after with Raven. Also due to the fact that she is from wonderland, she has a special power that lets her hear the narrators. She’s merry, jolly, always-optimistic, and does some super strange things, such as somersault through a wall, and wear a dress upsidedown. She is officially voiced by Cindy Robinson.
C.A Cupid
C.A Cupid is the adopted daughter of Eros; and Psyche from the story of Cupid and Psyche. She transferred from Monster High. She has the power to make people fall in love, because of this, other students can count on her to help them find their true love or for advice. She is quite sweet and helpful. She has a crush on Dexter Charming. Unlike her original MH version, her color scheme is light pink and nothing else. She believes the whole conflict between the Royals and the Rebels (which is what she is) is just plain stupid. Like Raven, she's voiced by Erin Fitzgerald.
Ashlynn Ella
Ashlynn is the daughter of Cinderella. Just like her mother, she is polite, hardworking and sensible; and also runs the Glass Slipper shoe store. Ashlynn is the type who doesn't care about clothing, as long as there are good looking shoes, and according to her Nook book by Shannon Hale, she being a redhead is defined as "strawberry blond". Ashlynn has a great fondness for shoes and has a collection of them. Ashlynn also looks like her mother according to the book called Ashlynn Ella's Story. Ashlynn has dark, bright, deep green eyes the color of emeralds, and yellowish, sort of orangish (to go with her hair and jewelry) skin the colors of a fair-skinned peach. Ashlynn adorns blush or rouge on her cheeks, fair-pink lipstick, sports bright-orange jewelry that includes of slipper-designed shoes for earrings with holding-for-attachment balls on top, a clock-tower designed necklace with a swan or some bird in the middle gone through it; a duckling ring on her left-hand-side middle finger; and a shoe-charmed, hair-matching, charm bracelet which the bracelet is only adorned in the illustrations and doll, and appears to have tree-leaves on it in the artwork. In the artwork, Ashlynn's wedged, vine-for-straps/scrappy, heeled foot-wears are white with see-through look for glass, in the webisodes they are teal and non-see-through. For the dolls, they are made of translucent-to-transparent glass. She loves nature and looking after animals (Which is why, of course, she wears the jewelries she has) and is the only princess who can talk to them (not just call them). Ashlynn has the ability to understand "animal language", even unlike the hero boyfriend she has a lot in common with, Hunter Huntsman. She is the only human in the land/kingdom of Ever After, who has the ability to do this. Like Hunter, as a respect of animals, she is also a vegan; and seems to love woodland creatures better than even humans; though before getting packed for Ever After High in the book, she was said to have longed for a human friend for a bit. Due to her friendly nature, she has many friends, and is secretly dating Hunter Huntsman. She is voiced by Laura Bailey.
Hunter Huntsman
Hunter is the son of "The Huntsman" (who is actually, surprisingly enough from both the stories of Little Riding Hood and Snow White, as revealed in the website's bio of his). Hunter's family is said to strong and heroic huntsmen as due to the surname Huntsman. Hunter's father, the Huntsman, who's just called Huntsman, believes in saving the lives of humans rather than other living organisms or even the ones without organs, believing strong dangers of so many non-human (humans are mammals); which strongly saddens Hunter to near-tears. Hunter loves his baby sister, Fern who works with a toy, rubber ax and he baby-talks to, which is something both his parents do not approve of, due to the role of being "tough". He is very adventurous, yet slightly boastful and gets really annoyed pretty easily, especially by a squirrel named Pesky. His true love is Ashlynn Ella due their nature of what they have in common, and is secretly dating her, although he is not a prince nor a part of her story, which is strictly forbidden (according to Milton Grim, the headmaster of Ever After High); this implies both of their allegiances are unclear. In fact, if his parents knew of them loving a non-hunter or in fact a princess, they'd totally freak, same as Ashlynn fancying a non-prince to her family. He is voiced by Grant George.
Blondie Lockes
Blondie is the daughter of Goldilocks and a friend to Apple and Briar. She is a Royal. She owns a MirrorPad (Which she used as a food tray to block with in "The Day Ever After") and, along with it, runs her own Mirror cast-show (as she says it on the website), and/or "Mirror-cast show". She is bubbly and social with a love for gossip, and is the go-to- girl for news; however, she is also quite picky, as she prefers to do and want things to be "just right"; for instance, she often butts into Apple and Charming's friendship to insist that they become a couple. Her color scheme is light blue and yellow. She is voiced by Julie Maddalena.
Cerise Hood
Cerise Hood is the daughter of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. Raven and kitty is so far the only people who knows her secret. According to her bio, she has crush on Daring Charming under "Fairytale Romance Status", and she is voiced by Rena S. Mandel.
Cedar Wood
Cedar Wood is the daughter of Pinocchio and also Madeline's and Cerise's best friend; and Cerise's roommate, too. Cedar is made of dark wood, although Pinocchio in other parts of fictional-makings appears to be made of Caucasian-looking colored wood. Like Apple, she is voiced by Jonquil Goode.
Dexter Charming
Dexter is a son of Prince Charming and Cinderella. He is the brother of Ashlynn Ella. (now King Charming, revealed in the 'Apple's tale' episode). He has a different personality than Daring, he seems to be somewhat shy, nervous, and more down-to-earth. Most people think hes the quiet, boring side of Daring He has a crush on Raven, even though Cupid has a crush on him. His signature color is royal blue. He has pretty-sharp reactions to his own full name (first and last), as afraid of a teacher asking him to wake up in class-period, as revealed in "Catching Raven". He is voiced by Evan Smith.
Daring Charming
Daring is the brother of Dexter Charming. He is stuck-up, conceited (both traits typically as/of a Royal), and even though he is "down to Earth", and nicer, his brother, Dexter is also a Royal. Daring is hardheaded, daring (as his first name goes), brave, and as he often calls himself, "good looking". He often flashes girls his sparkling, dazzling smile (though sort of an error, because in the 'Tales: Story of a...' episodes, it's just a 'whitening', this though probably meaning he has just gotten it for a way to flirt with 'the ladies' [Ever After High female students], and it is coincidentally so strong it's coincidentally permanent); and he's a total flirt. Though according to Raven's Tale: The Story of a Rebel, he is kind and generous enough to warn people to it, such as Raven (in the 'castle-teria'), Rebel girl like Cerise just to be friendly (perhaps). Flirtatious, 'dashing', as he says brave, and somewhat (sometimes) noble, Daring does have a good heart, "somewhat 'all and all' ". Daring Charming, is, same as his brother, voiced by Evan Smith.
Hopper Croakington II
Hopper is the son of the the Frog Prince. He is a Royal. He is a shy individual and often turns back into a frog when tongue-tied. In his frog form, Hopper can fully express his poetic side. Hopper has a crush on Briar Beauty; at one point, he tried to ask Briar to a dance with the help of C.A Cupid, only for the plan to backfire. His color scheme is scarlet and green. He is voiced by Cam Clarke.
Lizzie Hearts
Lizzie Hearts is the daughter of the Queen of Hearts. She is a Royal. She is happy with her destiny and doesn't want to change it, despite being destined to be a villain. She has the same signature line as her mother, which is called "Off with her head", as well as a singular British accent. She also has a heart-shaped beauty-mark on her right-hand eye. She also carries a deck of cards with her. Her best friends are Kitty Cheshire and Madeline Hatter. Her color scheme is red and black. She is voiced by Wendee Lee.
Kitty Cheshire
Kitty is the daughter of the Cheshire Cat. Kitty is a Rebel. She has the same power as her dad which is disappearing into thin air, leaving just her smile behind. Kitty is quite mischievous, and her practical jokes can often go too far. She has a light-pitch, girlish-like voice. She rooms with Madeline Hatter, who usually knows about her pranks. Her color scheme is lavender and navy. She also hangs out with Lizzie Hearts, as appeared in some parts of the franchise. She is voiced by Bekka Prewitt.
Tiny
Tiny is the son of the Giant from Jack and The Beanstalk and currently the largest student attending Ever After High. He appears to be kind, helpful and a little shy. His signature color is olive green. He is voiced by Malcolm Danare.
Duchess Swan
The daughter of the Swan Queen from Swan Lake. It is implied that whether she has a talent for ballet or not, based on her mother's story. Her rival is Apple White. Her signature color is pearl white. She is voiced by Stephanie Sheh.
Holly O'Hair
Holly is one of the two daughters of Rapunzel and a new student in Ever After High. Her sister is Poppy O'Hair, who runs a hair salon. She has really long hair. Her color scheme is pale violet.
Poppy O'Hair
Poppy is one of the two daughters of Rapunzel and a new student in Ever After High, along with her sister. Unique and creative, she runs a hair salon. Despite her mother's trademark, she has chin length wavy purple hair that is cutting edge. Unlike her sister she is cutting edge and very hip.
Headmaster Grimm
Headmaster Milton Grimm is the founder of Ever After High. He does not want anyone to question their destiny, as their stories will be nonexistent because of this. He is also in charge of the Legacy Day pledge rehearsals. His brother, Giles Grimm (see below), resides in the Vault of Lost Tales, located under the school. He is voiced by Jamieson Price.
Giles Grimm
Giles Grimm is the brother of Headmaster Grimm (see above). He resides in the Vault of Lost Tales, located underneath the school. It is implied that he has a curse which make him only to speak in riddle format. He makes a cameo in the Monster High movie "13 Wishes", in which he encourages a finder of Gigi's lantern to wish for Gigi to have a friend: Whisp; where he is credited as Narrator Like Hooper, he is voiced by Cam Clarke.
Narrators
The narrators talk through the web series of Ever After High. One is female (Valerie Arem), who narrates for the Royals, and the other is male (Joe Sanfelipo), who narrates the Rebel side. The two regularly bicker over the video when it comes to the two sides. Maddie is the only character to be able to hear and talk to them.
