The 2013–14 LFL Australia season is currently the first season of LFL Australia and the seventh season of the combined history of the Legends Football League and its predecessor, the Lingerie Football League. LFL Australia features four teams in four cities across Australia. For the 2013–14 season these team are the New South Wales Surge, Queensland Brigade, Victoria Maidens and the Western Australia Angels.
The 2013–14 regular season began on December 7, 2013 and is scheduled to conclude on February 1, 2014. The LFL Australia Legends Cup is scheduled to be played on February 8, 2014 at nib Stadium in Perth, Western Australia.[1]
Developments
LFL Australia premiered in December 2013 after Australia hosted the 2012 LFL All-Fantasy Game Tour.[2] Two exhibition games between the Eastern and Western Conferences took place on Australia's east coast in Brisbane and Sydney. Queensland native and wide receiver for the Los Angeles Temptation Chloe Butler served as the ambassador of LFL Football coming to Australia and captained the Western Conference squad. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth were designated as the four inaugural season market teams, with tryouts for each team taking place in 2012.
On 26 July 2012, the first LFL Australia team was unveiled as the New South Wales Surge to be based in Sydney.[3] The Surge were to originally play its home games at Škoda Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park, New South Wales.[4] This was later changed following a deal with Australian NRL club Penrith Panthers to play home games at Centrebet Stadium in Penrith, Greater Western Sydney.[5] On 8 August 2012, the Queensland Brigade were announced as the next franchise to be based on the Gold Coast at Skilled Park.[6] On 24 January 2013, the Victoria Maidens, to play at AAMI Park in Melbourne,[7][8] and the Western Australia Angels, to be based at nib Stadium in Perth,[9][10] were unveiled as the final two franchises for the inaugural LFL Australia season.
The 2013-14 season will be broadcast in Australia by 7mate.[11]
