Huggle

Hi again, I just started using huggle from today, had made like 2 edits from it some 2-3 months ago but today I did over 50. You've got over 37,000 edits with huggle, got any tips? I find that this program has some benefits over other programs such as Stiki, you can skip the edit that is not vandalism while Stiki warns against skipping. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 13:26, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's been a while... I still had version 2.1.16 on my PC - too many pages to delete these-days. Loaded up V3 - similar - I used to have some user defined edit summaries in V2 - I think that's gone now, maybe it does not need them now! Make your own queue - I would tick all the boxes in the queue defining box, make sure the queue is set to keep going when full and not stop. For V2 I used to set 2 minutes as life in queue (the default was 10), not sure if that option is in V3 (can't see it in my User:Ronhjones/huggle3.css file)- it meant I only saw edits of less than 2 minutes - otherwise someone else has reverted first! DO learn the keyboard shortcuts - you can't move the mouse that fast - when there is a lot of vandalism then... space Q space Q etc soon sorts them out! I've in the UK in the evening so I got to see a lot of US school edits :-) Quiet time now that schools are out. Only final thing is that if your have any thoughts about being an admin later, then don't overdo it - read Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Ronhjones and you will see why - WP:EDITCOUNTITIS in spades. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:03, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And the talk page there is good reading Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship/Ronhjones. I quite forgot all that drama. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:16, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for sharing. Amount of vandalism is still high and today if there is huge amount of constructive editing, it would technically suppress the chances of picking out the vandalism as many of our anti-vandal users depends upon Special:RecentChanges. Overdoing really leads to generalization and must be avoided. Your RFA was interesting for a read, especially that "we don't want automated user for admin". Now even if those opposes had any sense you've already got over 45,000 non-automated edits, such concerns are outdated but then they may have really mattered. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 14:22, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever you don't do well - will be found at RfA, you can please some of the people some of the time... RfAs that sail through are rare, and they should have applied years before! (I'll exclude my commons RfA - that was quite different!) In my Huggle days there were 12 vandals a minute in 150 total changes. The bigger WP gets, the more editors appear... As I've got on my talk page This user thinks that registration should be required to edit articles. - I think that day will eventually come, who knows when? Until then we just have to live with the policies in place. Ronhjones  (Talk)
That's why wikipedia is different than all, even IPs can edit. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 12:46, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Even if this proposal got accepted, soon these same people will request for signups that would include real life details, then they will ask to include a photo, then more and more, if any single detail would be left empty it will be pointed during the conduct of user. Better to just ignore or tame down such proposal from start.
Always remind them that this is encyclopedia and MMORPG , not a social network. OccultZone (TalkContributionsLog) 16:56, 7 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's always hard to know where to draw a line in the sand. Let's face it, we used to have article creation allowed by IPs - that's been stopped for a very long time - about 2006. See Wikipedia:Autoconfirmed Proposal/Poll (and talk page) for a read of changing auto confirm requirements - it impossible to please everybody about that! - getting agreement for no IP editing is many years away. History-only undeletion request

Please restore the history of MSDN Blogs, which was deleted via WP:PROD but is now a redirect. (Also, please restore the associated talk page.) Dogmaticeclectic (talk) 21:06, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Dogmaticeclectic - Page restored as a contested PROD - if you wish to change it to a redirect then you can do so. Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:43, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please undelete File:KitchenerJellicoe French.jpg

I had added the information asked for. Can you not read, or are you a robot? Vandal?Rodolph (talk) 21:09, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My answer is at User_talk:Diannaa#File:KitchenerJellicoe_French.jpg Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:38, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Australia (yacht) photos

Thank you for deleting my photos from the 'Australia (yacht)' page.

However I did provide the permission through the 'permissions@wikipedai' email.

ALthough I have been requested to provide something further, this should not have resulted in a deletion - especially as it took wikipedia a week to get back to me with the request for further information. Dazcag (talk) 00:48, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You never annotated the images with {{OTRS Pending}} - that is the only way to extend the live time before deletion, otherwise we don't know you have submitted anything to OTRS - Plenty of people just leave the image with "Evidence: Will be provided on request" and hope that will do. Since you say you have submitted the notice, I will restore and add the template - you then need to get the images approved - I'm regularly deleting "OTRS pending" that are >60 days waiting. Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:56, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Murray & Roberts

Hi Ronhjones, I noticed that you have deleted the page Murray & Roberts. As one of the contributors/creators of this article I was very surprised to only find out about this now by accident as I was not notified of its proposed deletion. Murray & Roberts is a very notable construction company that I feel passes the notability tests for organiasitons and companies. As such I ask that you please undelete it and restore the page on main space.

Reasons for undelete:

  1. Murray & Roberts has the subject of significant coverage in secondary sources. (see Sources list for a few of the articles out there mentioning the company)
  2. It is very large and a pillar of industry in the South African economy
  3. It is a multinational sized and based corporation with projects all over the world.
  4. Contributors to the article such as myself were not notified that it was being nominated for deletion.

Thanks, --Discott (talk) 12:59, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You don't have to prove it to me - any deleted PROD can be restored on request - it becomes a contested PROD. Only the person who created the page gets the notification of delete (in this case the person who created it - put it up for deletion). They may decide to go to WP:AfD, that will be their choice. The Dumping Ground

Please do not change the image on the main page for The Dumping Ground. The image will be changed and updated if replaced again. This is one of three warnings. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cartman810 (talkcontribs) 16:48, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Cartman810 the image you uploaded was far too big for non free use. In such cases it's normal to revert back to the non-free image that does follow the policy. As the version you have now uploaded falls within size guidelines, I have revision deleted the previous version. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:08, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Photo of Steven Naifeh

We have talked to the photographer, and he gave us permission to use this on Wikipedia. We also gave him all the info on confirming the licensing with Wikipedia, but apparently he has not completed that process. I'll try to get ahold of him and remind him. Thanks for the heads up! Sehr Gut (talk) 16:19, 3 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

NB: It's possible he's sent something in that is not suitable, and he hasn't noticed a reply (we had a current bug at OTRS, so we cannot search anything longer than 30 characters - so searching urls isn't working, hence I wait 60 days before tagging, rather than 30) If he has sent something in, and can't find a reply then e-mail me his e-mail address so I can find any ticket that might have arrived. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:13, 3 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Mr. Naifeh is contacting the photographer again, so OTRS should be hearing from him again soon. Sehr Gut (talk) 14:43, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I see that the other image created by this photographer ([[1]]) was approved with an OTRS ticket. That ticket may have information regarding this image as well. I'm PMing you the photographer's email address. Cheers! Sehr Gut (talk) 15:13, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Sehr Gut All comes clear with that link! The image was approved on the same ticket as the other photo - The image was then moved to commons and the ticket applied, but the en-wiki image was left with the "OTRS pending" (I would have added the ticket and then moved it...) As the en-wiki image is the same name, you cannot see the commons image! I've deleted the en-wiki image, now the commons image with it's ticket shows through. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:35, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! I'm still seeing the "pending" tag on the image in the lightbox Media Viewer, so perhaps it's taking time for the change to propagate through some caching for the viewer? Sehr Gut (talk) 21:49, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Remember the image is on your hard drive - you may be seeing a cached image. See WP:BYPASS and WP:PURGE Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:59, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

John W Hickenlooper photo.

Hi, I saw that you deleted the photo I put up of John Hickenlooper. I gave a rationale for why this image is valid and not replaceable. Was it not sufficient? Please reply on my talk page. Thanks! AJohnson93 (talk) 16:22, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Photo for Helen Sung Wikipedia page

Hello, my name is Helen Sung and I have been trying to update the photo on my Wikipedia page. But it keeps getting removed, and I don't understand why. The photos belong to me and I'm at my wit's end about this. I think you are the most recent person to have removed my photo and I am trying to resolve this as soon as possible. Please advise, thank you. Helen 71.246.102.224 (talk) 21:36, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You stated
  • Description = Photo taken of pianist Helen Sung performing live.
  • Source = Sent to me personally
  • Author = Ella Gahnt
  • Permission = Evidence: Will be provided on request.
  • Ms. Gahnt took this photo of me during one of my performances. She sent it (along w/several other shots) to me for use as I saw fit.
So we need formal permission from Ella Gahnt to release the copyright to least CC-BY-SA - the procedure is described at WP:DCM. Or get Ella Gahnt to personally upload the image with a CC-BY-SA license. Although most people are happy to give photos out, very often we find that once the CC-BY-SA license is explained to them - then they back out, often because they do not want others to be able to use the images commercially with no fee. Thanks for dealing with this editor. That said, I think you should be aware of Canada's Wonderland (talk · contribs), which has just been created and is also doing the same thing. I'm working on a SPI report now and will add it momentarily. --McDoobAU93 19:03, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@User:McDoobAU93 - Page protected fully for 2 days, edit reverted and editor warned. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:07, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again. SPI now up for review. There's also a report on ANEW that probably can be closed out now. --McDoobAU93 19:09, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming good faith

Hi Ron,

I was hoping you could offer some advice on an issue I am having with another user. He and I do not get along, and have not for some time. All of this came to a head in the past two days or so when he reported me to ANI/3RR. It's true that there was some edit-warring involved, but this is a separate issue - it's not the first time that he has reported me to an ANI. No action aside from the odd warning has ever been taken, but what bothers me is that these reports always co-incide with a dispute over content that we have had. It's happened so often that I can no longer assume good faith in his actions; I am beginning to believe that he is abusing the ANI process to try and get editors he disagrees with blocked.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but he has employed some extremely aggressive and under-handed tactics in the past, such as deliberately stalling discussions and refusing to acknowledge a consensus among editors to claim NOCONSENSUS and keep his preferred edits in an article. Similarly, he has admitted in the past that he will do a 2RR, and then sit on the page waiting for a revert before going to ANI. Likewise, he has grossly misrepresented issues when calling for mediation to the point where other editors comment on it. Consequently, I have a very hard time assuming good faith in his edits.

This particular user claims that he only ever goes to ANI to act in the interests of an article, but I have only ever seen him refer editors that he has had a disagreement with, and he happily ignores other issues that, if he was true to his word, he would have reported. Hence, I believe that he is abusing the ANI system, and that it can no longer be ignored. Is there something that can be done, like banning him from reporting to ANI? Prisonermonkeys (talk) 05:59, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since you suspect he might be gaming the system, then the answer is to not to fall foul of any rules. When you know you are reverting on of his edits, then just do the one revert, if he reverts back, then discuss WP:BRD - if you cannot agree then go to dispute resolution, don't do a second revert. Some editors do sit there waiting for just one rule to be broken, I don't know if this is the case, but when you suspect such a case, you must take extra care. I doubt if there is any rule that would allow his to stop using ANI, it would have to be a full block - and as such unlikely to happen at present. Hello, an email was sent by the creator of the image to the permissions email address as required by Cedric Clark, before the deadline of 8/10/14. The artwork was still deleted, is there something I did wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by D420world (talkcontribs) 22:03, 11 August 2014 (UTC) D420world (talk) 22:05, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS is not quick. If you are going down that path you need to tell us by putting {{OTRS pending}} on the page. I've restored and done that for you - I tend to leave it for 60 days now for the OTRS process to complete. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:30, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Page : Surendra Krishna Deleted

Hi Ron Johnes,

I have created a page called Surendra Krishna. He is a good writer and a lyricist in Telugu(Indian) Cinema. He has written over 100 songs and might deserve to have a page on Wikipedia. Few of his songs stood as chart busters for long time.

I have provided few links of web that mentioned his name.

Here are few more :

Here are few links where his name was mentioned in Wiki pages :

Could you please re-instate the page or let me know what information should I provide to get the page live.
