08:24:29, 8 September 2014 review of submission by John.A.McKee

The reviewer responded that I'd included something that violated copyright, however the offending item was simply the URL of a public website so I don't understand the problem.

Also, it appears that the article was deleted very soon after the review, which pains me greatly. I spent several hours to-ing and fro-ing with the client in order to get it to the point it was at, and if I can't get it back then it means I have to go through the whole painful process again from scratch.

While I understand that you can't host anything that breaks copyright, it's pretty brutal to remove it entirely without even saving a copy that I could fix. Is there any way that I can get back what I had and make the necessary changes?

Thanks John.A.McKee (talk) 08:24, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You have infringed copyright at http://www.nsw.ipaa.org.au/events/2012/ipaa-regional-conference-2012 How would you like it if it were your own copyright that had been infringed? We protect copyright vigorously by deleting offending material on sight, and tend not to pass the material that broke copyright to anyone at all. The deleting admin may hold a different view and you should ask them. Please see WP:COPYRIGHTS. I note that you have a client. This also tells me that you have a conflict of interest. Wikipedia may not be used for promotional purposes, and paid editing is deprecated. It takes a very skilled editor to be able to handle such matters. You would do well to take advice from one such as CorporateM who knows with precision how to handle this. Fiddle Faddle 09:44, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@John.A.McKee Since the article has been deleted, I can't see it and therefore cannot provide any advice. However if you can email me a copy I might be able to help. It should be noted that contributing to Wikipedia with a conflict of interest is very strongly discouraged, because often your client's objectives are often counter to Wikipedia's rules (for example they may want an article, whereas Wikipedia's rules may suggest that none should exist). Therefore my default advice is not to waste any more of your time on this, but I find in about 25% of cases someone in your position can be helped in a way that benefits Wikipedia. I'd have to see the article to suggest which circumstance this particular case may fall under. CorporateM (Talk) 12:34, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 08:33:44, 8 September 2014 for assistance on AfC submission by Swherton

Hi I have just received a message that the article I wrote contained copyright information and the article was deleted. This is not very helpful because I would like to know where the copyright information was and I could have had a chance to edit it if I had known. Is there anyway I can get this back?

Kind regards Sally

Swherton (talk) 08:33, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The piece was deleted as a copyright violation of http://timhailes.com/biography.html It seems unlikely that you do not realise that you copied this page, an action which seems unwise since the gentleman is a legal counsel. Fiddle Faddle 08:45, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is currently important assistance for you at User:Boniswa94/sandbox, although that page may get deleted because it was copied without proper authorisation. 04:25:17, 9 September 2014 review of submission by Emerdog

Emerdog (talk) 04:25, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I just finished my first Wikipedia article, USS PC-598, drafted on my user sandbox page. Although I am a registered user, I followed the directions on the page and submitted it for review my clicking the link on the page, rather than activating it myself. A reviewer was nice enough to activate the article for me today. I have two questions:

1 - I seem to have lost the use of my sandbox. If I click the Sandbox tab on my user page I am redirected to the article, USS PC-598. I can no longer access my sandbox (User:Emerdog/sandbox.) I would like my sandbox back but cannot figure how to correct this problem.

2 - The article was rated Start-Class, with which I am okay. However, the main fault for that category of the rubric is a lack of reliable references. The bulk of the information is taken from original source documents - the Administrative Diaries, Operational Remarks, Log Books and War Diaries for the ship from 1943, 1944 and 1945. I have copies of all of these documents and have shown them as Sources on the page. For information not taken from these source documents, I have 40 additional footnotes. Should I be footnoting each sentence or each paragraph of the article to specific days from the Logs or Diaries, such as this?[1]

Please advise.

Thank you for your help.

@Emerdog: I have removed the redirect from your sandbox. Whenever you encounter a redirect, the small title of the original page is found under the title of the article. That way you can return to the redirected page and edit it as needed.
This help desk is for drafts. If you want a reassessment of your article, you can ask at WikiProject Military History. Chris Troutman (talk) 05:36, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

04:36:28, 9 September 2014 review of submission by John.A.McKee

Hi again. WRT my earlier question on September 8 I have some follow-up questions. Please excuse my ignorance on this but it's the first article I've attempted to put on Wikipedia and I'm still finding my way.

First, I don't understand how I've infringed copyright by linking to http://www.nsw.ipaa.org.au/events/2012/ipaa-regional-conference-2012. It's a public website and there are plenty of other public websites to which Wikipedia links, so I'm at a loss to understand the problem. Can you explain this for me?

Second, I'm not exactly doing paid editing. A customer of mine wants a Wikepedia page set up to provide information about him and technically he's not able to do it. He has created the content and employed me to simply input that content for him. Is that in contravention of the rules?

Finally, is there no way I can get back the content I already entered? I didn't realise you guys would erase it if the draft was rejected so I don't have a backup.

Thanks

John.A.McKee (talk) 04:36, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@John.A.McKee: Timtrent already replied to you that you had copied content wholesale, not simply included the URL. We will not restore the deleted copyright violation and this point isn't worth arguing over. If you refer to someone as "the client" you likely are not an objective contributor; we're still willing to allow you to contribute through this project, anyway. Be advised that as the editor involved, it is your responsibility to ensure that content meets our standards. You can't simply paste in a document someone else gave you.
I recommend you read our guidance on writing your first article. Our "referencing for beginners" is also helpful. Chris Troutman (talk) 05:24, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@John.A.McKee: If your customer has created the content I do not understand why you do not have it. If your customer has copied a site wholesale, then, really, that is your customer's tough luck. They should know better. Show them this correspondence. If all they have done is passed you the content because you are capable of making the input they can pass it again and you can see where the copyright infringement is. Nothing is ever deleted for linking to a site. It is deleted on sight if it infringes that site's copyright. To undelete it, even briefly, is a further copyright infringement. Ask the deleting admin with pleasure. You will find their details at the deleted draft, and they may have a different view.
Copyright infringement is not just a lack of politeness, it is theft of intellectual property. BY deleting this draft we have not only protected the owner, but protected you. Fiddle Faddle 06:17, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

10:07:35, 9 September 2014 review of submission by Ravi Paliya

My article "Hindu Purohit Sangh" is not a copy paste material. Ravi Paliya (talk) 10:07, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Ravi Paliya: Sure it is. Earwig's tool tells me that there's a 94% chance you copied the information word-for-word from veda.wikidot.com, which itself was probably translated from hindupurohitsangh.in. If this content belongs to your institution, you will need to donate that content to Wikipedia. However, it appears that you're trying to advertise and that's not permitted. Your draft has no independent reliable sources to indicate Hindu Purohit Sangh is notable. Just because it's registered with the Indian government doesn't make it notable. 10:45:51, 9 September 2014 review of submission by The Editor is Here

Hello, I am fully aware that thousands of people are waiting for their articles to be reviewed; however, I have the feeling no one has reviewed my article yet (almost a month now), because they are not entirely familiar with the subject matter (German financial startups, FinTech, etc.). 11:58:33, 9 September 2014 review of submission by Golderaeck

Hi, I've created the article about Rone (musician). I realised that an Australian street artist shares the same alias, meaning that the Australian Rone's page comes immediately when one searches for "Rone" in Wikipedia. At the top of Rone's page I read : This article is about Rone the street artist. For the gutter downpipe, see Downspout.

Is there a way to add : For the French electronic music producer and artist see Rone (musician) ??

Please help me. Thanks for the good work! regards, Didier

Golderaeck (talk) 11:58, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've done something like that now by changing the hatnote at the top to the following markup:
{{about|the street artist|the gutter downpipe|Downspout|the musician|Rone (musician)}}

Roroone (talk) 20:29, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Roroone: It reads like a resume, not an encyclopedic article. You have no in-line citations let alone cited sources. You make no claim to notability. Chris Troutman (talk) 20:40, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

22:25:43, 9 September 2014 review of draft by Template:Emc25

Wondering if someone can take a look at the draft and provide any suggestions on how to improve it? Is there anything else I should do before requesting publication?

Thank you!

Emc25 (talk) 22:25, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Among others" and "among many others" and similar phrasing are both unnecessary, and also promotional phrasing. Remove anything like that. You may wish to improve the formatting of your references. Take a look at some Wikipedia:Good Articles and see how proper references are formatted... not just the hyperlinked name of the source article.
You have a paragraph "...she attended the indigenous peoples global summit ... The summit enabled indigenous peoples from all regions of the globe to exchange their knowledge and experience in adapting to the impacts of climate change and to develop key messages and recommendations to assist Indigenous Peoples in their global negotiations on climate change". This paragraph is entirely unsourced, horribly repetitive, promotional, and really adds nothing to encyclopedic knowledge about Tryon. So for example I attended Wikimania 2014 (and helped to run it, in a small way), but that fact is really not something that needs to be noted in an encyclopedia, nor would it contribute to my being notable enough for a Wikipedia article (which I am not).
Focusing on secondary, independent sources, and removing some material not supported by such sources, may also help to make the case for Tryon's notability clearer. As a tour guide, lecturer, conference attendee and non-profit founder, her notability is not totally clear to me. It could go either way. Good luck! 02:16:53, 10 September 2014 review of submission by HappyBe

I have been trying to submit an article for almost a year, it is a very long time between reviews (which I understand) but then I make changes and get caught out on something else. I am also finding it difficult to ascertain if my article has been rejected or if I am waiting to hear back again. Is there a number I can call or anyway I can get some additional help in getting this article published?

Thank you for your help

HappyBe (talk) 02:16, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Our role as reviewers is to seek to ensure that an article will not immediately be subject to one of our deletion processes when it is accepted. That is why we push it back to the author. We want to accept articles. Create > Submit >Review > Edit > Resubmit is intended to be an iterative process. IT is not that you get caught on something, it is that the edits that you make reveal another facet that needs to be polished.
There are no numbers to call, no email to check. You need to work on the draft, resubmit it, and await the review.
I have, by the way, filled in the details of the editor who declined the draft most recentluy. Their review is correct and the tone needs to be altered to be flatter. Fiddle Faddle 08:27, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On my checking further, the editor who pushed the draft back to you, Wilhelmina Will, had not completed the review task, so you were not notified. I have left them a helpful note on their talk page. Do take their review on board. You may also wish to discuss it with them on their talk page. To me there seems to be just this tone step to go. Other reviewers my have different views. So go to it with your faith restored and let;s get this accepted! Fiddle Faddle 08:35, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Kill Yourself Save the planet the Islamic Perspective

Waqar Ali Mumtaz Mohammad (talk) 14:25, 10 September 2014 (UTC) WHy Was my article declined to add in Wikipedia? I have made it all possible Better article.[reply]

If you go to the page Draft:Kill Yourself Save the Planet, Islamic perspective you can see that it was deleted as an unambiguous copyright infringement of an external website. This is because it copied material that may be copyrighted from the external website. All material on Wikipedia must be freely licensed, so such copying is not acceptable. If you own the material on the website and wish to freely license it, Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials explains how to do so. But often, it is better to write it in your own words instead, in a neutral encyclopedic style and supported by independent reliable sources as described in Wikipedia:VRS. 15:32:39, 10 September 2014 review of submission by Nadeembahoo

After submitting the page, I received this message: It is proposed that this article be deleted because of the following concern:

NN - Autobiography. Advertisement for his books and website.

I have modified the page and resubmitted but I'm not sure how long it will take for them to review it again. Please assist me so that I can remove/update the information so that page will be created. Nadeembahoo (talk) 15:32, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of submitting the page as a draft, you appear to have created it directly as a published article. This has thrown up problems because your newly created article does not have references to independent reliable sources ... for example reviews of Bhabha's books in major newspapers or established literary magazines ... to prove Bhabha's notability by Wikipedia's standards. Wikipedia:VRS has more information about this.
Perhaps you should move the information about Bhabha back to your sandbox at User:Nadeembahoo/sandbox and submit it from there only when it is ready. Alternatively, if you can fix the problems with the existing article Nadeem Bhabha within a few days, then that should also work. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 15:57, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

17:34:23, 10 September 2014 review of submission by 69.71.193.130

Can somebody help me figure out why my page was rejected? I am using original content that doesn't have any sources except for the synopsis for which i would like to use the official synopsis. The page is Draft: A Leading Man. Thanks!

69.71.193.130 (talk) 17:34, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:A Leading Man requires references. We require references from significant coverage about the entity, and independent of it, and in WP:RS please. See WP:42. It is one of the very simple things that must exist for a draft to be accepted. Fiddle Faddle 17:47, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What if I am the reference? All of the information is first hand.

69.71.193.130 (talk) 17:34, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia does not have first hand information. Unfortunately this might mean that your draft is unlikely to be suitable as a Wikipedia article. However, if this television drama receives significant coverage in independent reliable sources... perhaps such as reviews of it in major newspapers or established entertainment magazines or established entertainment websites, then adding such sources as references may suffice to prove its notability. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 17:56, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If the synopsis you have written is published in WP:RS that will give some weight to its inclusion. If you are a journalist and review the topic in a significant manner and it is published in one or more outlets that qualify for WP:42 that is infinitely better. Even if you are a well known public figure writing anonymously here and you unmask yourself as that figure it remains as original research. Thsi is because WIkipedia is an encyclopaedia and cannot take first hand material. Fiddle Faddle 18:04, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I imagine it was due to lack of references, but the only references I can provide are ones from the company itself - third party data pertaining to the assertions made do not exist. What should I do? Basically, I just want an entry that accurately describes the company. I am happy to remove any fluff. Breton66 (talk) 03:02, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Put simply, no references = perpetual refusal of the draft. We require references from significant coverage about the entity, and independent of it, and in WP:RS please. See WP:42. You need to consider why you want this company featured. It is not (yet) notable and fails WP:CORP. Fiddle Faddle 07:24, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wikipedia, I would like to request assistance in drafting our information page for our company in Wikipedia. I received the comment that we "should not add promotional material to Wikipedia. This is a help desk, not a page to submit your draft. You need to go to WP:AFC and click the big "Click here to create an article now!" label to create and submit your draft. We do not do reviews of material here, but do read WP:42 before submitting for review, and comply with it. Your draft at present will be pushed back to you unless you comply.
You also need to be clear on the reaosn for your company having a Wikipedia article. What is that? Does it pass WP:CORP? If not then there will be no article.Fiddle Faddle 07:41, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In particular, the contents table is created automatically when you have sufficient section headings added via the process described in the cheatsheet. Wikipedia:VRS may also be useful. 20:48:06, 11 September 2014 review of submission by Akira Urumuri

Makanyaga, Abdoul is the icon of Rwandan music since the 1970s, as Rwanda is developing rapidly there is a growing movement to introduce the outside world to its cultural figures. First on this list must be Makanyaga, and considering he is embarking on a unique music project with The Sun Kings band to create awareness of the need for solar energy in order to alleviate energy poverty in Rwanda, now is the right time for his profile to be raised on the worldwide web. There is little information about Makanyaga's life and career, and he is not internet savvy himself. As his current manager I have taken it upon me to elevate him and create more awareness outside of his home country. Best regards, Neil Goodwin.

Akira Urumuri (talk) 20:48, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Akira Urumuri: no Declined Without independent reliable sources, there's no evidence that this musician is notable. You need to add in-line citations. This draft also reads promotionally. Wikipedia is not here for advertising. Chris Troutman (talk) 21:44, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps printed newspapers or printed lifestyle or entertainment magazines in Rwanda have written in detail about Makanyaga or reviewed his performances or recordings in detail. If so, these would be entirely acceptable as sources, even if not written in English. Sources can be online on the internet, but they can also be offline as printed sources. Both are good. 16:53:13, 12 September 2014 review of submission by Teepurk

I received a review saying "This submission's references do not adequately evidence the subject's notability—see the general guideline on notability and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing, so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia."

I have a bunch of notable references throughout my article. I was wondering if there was anything specific that anyone see's that is causing this article to not get published.

Thanks! Teepurk (talk) 16:53, 12 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Teepurk: Complex magazine looks like your best reference, which doesn't say much. The issue (as the reviewer explained on the draft) is that the citations aren't about Prime Cut. Most of your "citations" are music videos with the tiniest intimation that Prime Cut had some role in directing the video. You need to have articles in periodicals about Prime Cut. I have written an English-language entry on Pierre Emile Lelong, which has been rejected for lack of documentation. I have cited the three available monographs on this French artist, a French newspaper, and an English reference work. I do not understand what is missing. I have spent months researching this artist, and have documented my work very carefully. Will someone please explain to me why "Coin945" whoever he/she is, feels that this entry is unacceptable?

Pcampsie (talk) 00:07, 13 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Accepted You needs to ask the reviewer who declined it why they did so. The references should, ideally, but not mandatorily, have links to online versions if you can find them, but the article meets our acceptance criteria. You moved it to the incorrect location, and I have sorted all that out for you. Fiddle Faddle 06:21, 13 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am looking in to making a page on Roland Habisreutinger and I copy and pasted from the italian wikipedia is that aloud or not because i could just translate the italian to english. Thanks for your help

24.36.180.158 (talk) 18:56, 13 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi IP -24.36.180.158 - Yes, you may translate the Italian language Wikipedia article on Roland Habisreutinger to make an English language Wikipedia article on him. However, you must give credit to the Italian Wikipedia editors of that article. You may do it, by leaving an edit-summary that you did copy the contents from Italian language Wikipedia and by placing a template {{translated page}} -on the talk page of English language article, that it is substantially a copy of the Itanlian language Wikipedia article.
However, looking at the Italian language article, it:Roland Habisreutinger, it does not appear to have much contents to copy from. It also does not have multiple reliable sources that'd justisfy the inclusion of Roland Habisreutinger on English Wikipedia. I'll suggest you to first make sure, if he meets the Wikipedia notability guideline and then writing the article from scratch. Cheers! Anupmehra -Let's talk! 14:10, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, no, you do not need a good solution as soon as possible. You just need to achieved the status that allows the move option to appear. This requires time to be served and a number of edits to be made. Just improve your draft articles as they are named today and we'll deal with moving them when it is time. Bill Daly (Writer) (talk) 20:16, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The reason is on the draft. It shows you why writing an autobiography is a poor idea here. It seems you are not notable in this reviewer's opinion, based upon the paucity of information and lack of references in the draft. By no means all published authors are notable. From the draft I agree with the reviewer. Fiddle Faddle 21:06, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your words tell us that you have a conflict of interest. YOu need to be especially careful over tone and references when drafting this piece. Fiddle Faddle 11:34, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Skandaleas - MatthewVanitas appears to be unavailable at this time. I'll make an attempt to explain the problem(s) with your draft Mykonos Windmills America. First of all, the draft in present shape, doesn't appear to be meeting our notability guideline, which seeks significant coverage in multiple secondary, independent and reliable sources. You should find reliable sources that are independent of your company and discuss the company in some detail, as such coverage in newspapers, magazines, books, journals, reputable online blogs, etc. Failing notability, will make the draft unsuitable for inclusion.
Next, we do only write what already has been written in reliable sources, in our own words retaining the meaning of the original, -in a neutral tone. And, to make it in comliance with Verifiability policy, we do cite same the source(s) after the line, we derived from. Wikipedia referencing for beginners guide may help you to understand, 'how to cite a source'.
Just fix these, and your draft will be eligible for inclusion and may be moved to Wikipedia articles space anytime, thereafter. If your company doesn't the meet the notability guideline at this time, I'll advise you to try again some time later. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 11:56, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
