Tomorrow, hook 4 "... that Niloofar Rahmani is the first female fixed-wing Air Force aviator in Afghanistan's history?" Why not just "in Afghanistan"? - "history" seems redundant. [[User:Edwardx|Edwardx]] ([[User talk:Edwardx|talk]]) 22:36, 18 March 2015 (UTC) |

Please submit error reports only for content that is currently or will imminently appear on the Main Page. For general discussion about the Main Page, kindly use its talk page. |
National variations of the English language have been extensively discussed previously:
|
To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 19:39 on 18 November 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

"... that Tom Love dropped out of college twice before becoming the billionaire owner of Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores?" While technically correct, this sounds like he just walked into an existing company and was made the owner and a billionaire all at once. Suggest "before founding Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores".
- I think this falls within what you might call DYK grammar -- the art of making a not very exciting fact sound interesting. Espresso Addict (talk) 18:20, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
"... that Abrahams Creek is also known as Abraham Creek, Abraham's Creek, Abram Creek, and Abrams Creek?" Was that really the best that could be done for a hook? "This creek is called by a bunch of obviously related variants of its name"? Would suggest "Abrahams Creek is named after a Mohican chief" or "Abrahams Creek has six tributaries, none of which are named". --Khajidha (talk) 14:25, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- I agree but am not sure what to do about this. Hooks are generally confirmed by several independent reviewers looking at the sources so it's not possible to just change them. The article seems good by DYK standards so it would be a shame to just pull the hook. I have notified the DYK project. Espresso Addict (talk) 18:20, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- After discussion at the DYK talk page, I have changed it to the first possibility mentioned by Khajidha. Espresso Addict (talk) 22:14, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

Errors in today's or tomorrow's On this day
Error in tomorrow's fact about Pluto's first photograph:
- 1915 – Pluto (pictured) was photographed for the first time, 15 years before it was officially discovered by Clyde Tombaugh at the Lowell Observatory.
Pluto was first photographed on March 19 1915. It was first discovered on February 18, 1930.
This would mean 14 years had passed. Not 15 years. Replaceinkcartridges (talk) 16:58, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- Fourteen years and 11 months (less 1 day), I think we can forgive the rounding. If it is considered worth doing, simply adding "nearly" before "15 years" would fix it.--Khajidha (talk) 18:02, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- I think the 15 years might be referring to the official news of the discovery being telegraphed on March 13, 1930. Espresso Addict (talk) 18:14, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
