Kapil Sharma is an Indian stand-up comedian, actor, TV host, producer and singer.Popularly known as the "Comedy King" of India.He had made his place in the Forbes India Celebrity list for the first time in 2013 being ranked 93rd on the list and has moved up to 33rd in 2014.[1][2] He has also been awarded the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2013, in the Entertainment category.[3] He is ranked at no.3 in the Most Admired Indian Personality List by The Economic Times in 2015.[4] Currently he is hosting Indian comedy show "Comedy Nights with Kapil".[5] Sharma has been nominated for "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" by PM Narendra Modi which he has accepted.[6] A year after in September 2015 he was invited at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by the President Pranab Mukherjee to acknowledge his contribution towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.[7] He made his Bollywood debut with Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu directed by Abbas Mustan, which released on 25 September 2015. Early life
Sharma was born in Amritsar, Punjab . His father was a head constable in the police department and his mother is a housewife.[9] His father died of cancer in 2004 at Safdurjung hospital in New Delhi.[10] He studied at Hindu college in Amritsar.[11]
Career
Sharma had been working in the comedy show Hasde Hasande Raho on MH One, until he got his first break in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, one of the nine reality television shows he has won.[11] He became the winner of the show in 2007 for which he won 10 lakhs as prize money.[5]
Then he participated in Sony Entertainment Television’s Comedy Circus.[12] He became the winner of total six seasons of "Comedy Circus" he participated in.[13] He has hosted dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6[14] and also hosted comedy show Chhote Miyan.[15][16] Sharma also participated in the show Ustaadon Ka Ustaad. In 2013, Sharma launched his own show Comedy Nights with Kapil, under his banner K9 Production.[17]
At CNN-IBN Indian of the Year awards, Sharma was felicitated with Indian of the Year award in entertainment category in 2013 by Amol Palekar.[18] In 2014 Lok Sabha Election, he was declared the Brand Ambassador by Delhi election commission.[19]
Sharma hosted the 60th Filmfare awards 2015 along with Karan Johar as co-host.[20] He was the presenter for the fourth season of Celebrity Cricket League 2014.[21] He was featured as guest on the opening episode of Indian television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 8 on 17 August.[22] He was also featured as celebrity guest on The Anupam Kher Show where he shared his emotional side for the first time.[23]

Sharma was to make his film debut with Yashraj film's Bank Chor, but later he opted out of it.[24]
He will be making his film acting debut as lead in the movie Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu which is a romantic-comedy directed by Abbas Mustan opposite 4 heroines, Elli Avram, Manjari Phadnis, Simran Kaur Mundi and debutant Sai Lokur.[8] The film was released on 25 September 2015 and got success and was a hit film.. Personal life
Sharma lives in Mumbai by himself as a bachelor.[10] He suffered with a slipped disc while shooting a song for his debut film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu during February 2015 for which the doctors advised him 3 weeks bed rest.As he tweeted, he had rest after 8 years of working continuously without any break.[26][26]
Social work
In July 2014, Kapil brought home an abandoned dog and named him 'Zanjeer'. Zanjeer, a retired police dog from Mumbai, is a Labrador who we see making appearances on CNWK and social media quite often. Kapil is also campaigning to save tortured elephants across the country.[27]
Kapil and the cast of Comedy Nights with Kapil appears in the PETA campaign to promote adoption of homeless cats and dogs.[28]
