Pageviews Analysis

Hi MusikAnimal,

Could you please explain the dramatic decline in the number of views in the last three days on ruwiki? Somehow it concerns articles with titles in Cyrillic, compare [1] and [2]. Sealle (talk) 12:35, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, very interesting! Pageviews Analysis displays data directly from the WMF-provided API, and the fact that it's showing any data at all tells me something must be wrong on their end. I can get in touch with analytics team and see if they know what's going on MusikAnimal talk 18:49, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please do. Викидим (talk) 08:31, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Any response? The problem is still existing. --Алый Король (talk) 03:24, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Алый Король: They are working on it! The phab task has even been given the highest priority, "Unbreak Now!" MusikAnimal talk 03:57, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Admin's Barnstar
You deserve it in all the requests for permissions. Winterysteppe (talk) 04:25, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

I have been fighting some nice amount of vandalism, and I am looking for rollback permission in order to use Huggle. I believe that I am ready for it, and I certainly will never abuse it. I would like to have your opinion on whether I would be granted that permission, since I wasn't able to find clear guidelines. I am not requesting it on the regular channel because I afraid that in the event that I get denied it will be harder to get it in the future. Thanks, WannaBeEditor (talk) 06:06, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Saturday March 5, 10am-5pm: Art+Feminism Edit-a-thon @ MoMA

You are invited to join us for the MoMA Art+Feminism edit-a-thon on Saturday, to support the expansion of Wikipedia's coverage of women in the arts.

We encourage both people new to Wikipedia, and people who have experience editing online, or have joined us for past edit-a-thon events.

This is by far our biggest event of the year (over 200 participants in the last edition), and every extra hand counts, so please join and volunteer to help us engage new communities!

10:00am - 5:00pm (drop-in anytime!) at The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Education and Research Building at the Museum of Modern Art, 4 West 54 Street - between 5th/6th, New York, NY 10019
Please note that this entrance is one block north of the main 53rd Street entrance, closer to 5th Avenue.

And bring your interested friends and colleagues!

For those outside of the city, or unable to join on Saturday, check out Art+Feminism regional and global events as well. --Pharos (talk) 21:49, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding my rollback rights

Hi MusikAnimal. Before I start, I'd just like to thank you for granting me rollback rights in the first place, as well as letting me keep them after my unacceptable edit summary shortly after receiving them. I really do appreciate that. However, I am now starting to take my actions whilst using Huggle into question, and so are many other editors. In this month alone, I have made several accidental reverts, either by misreading a revision, by presuming an edit is vandalism when it is, in fact, not, or by accidentally pressing the "Q" button when I am reading a revision. I am therefore requesting that my rollback be revoked for the time being. I'd rather admit to my unacceptable behaviour and face a milder sanction for it now, than be in denial and risk receiving a block later.

I am unsure whether or not I will be allowed to request these rights again, but that is not a concern of mine. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for my unacceptable behaviour, and I feel as if this revocation will be in the community's best interest. If, however, I am able to apply again, I will only do so when I feel as if I have become a more responsible user. Kindest regards, --Ches (talk) 19:39, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done I don't really have time to review your contributions, but I will tell you lots of people make mistakes with Huggle – myself included. The idea I think is to not go too fast. Semi-automated software will work wonders for getting things done very fast, but consequently makes you more prone to error. Just try to be more cautious, is all. The important thing, at least going by what you're telling me, is that you are trying to do good and the fact you upfront about your shortcomings speaks volumes. If you feel you're ready for rollback again don't hesitate to reach out to me. Best MusikAnimal talk 16:17, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you sir. --Ches (talk) 18:06, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If i put a request for rollback, do i have a good track record?

Hey MusikAnimal, I was wondering if my current contribution track record is good enough to get rollback. Not a formal request but im seeing if my contributions stand up to scrutiny. Winterysteppe (talk) 16:07, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Doing a very quick spot check, I would be inclined to give you rollback if I were an admin. You should go ahead and request, you are likely going to get it.—cyberpowerChat:Limited Access 16:10, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

MarcoAlbani1998

Hi. I have been away from the computer a while so I just spotted a notification after this edit at WP:AIV which have now been archieved. Hope it is okay if I answer here instead.

You are right, the edits are to templates and the extra space does not produce any visual difference. However the edits are seen as disruptive and there has been multiple times where they have been fixed instead of reverting (example diff), because it is often better to fix than make a straight revert for some extra spaces.

It might look childish to even bother about some tiny extra spaces, but it comes from long term issues with this editor and the fact that they never respond to messages at their talkpage. Despite earlier warnings and two days ago a 31 hour block, they still continue without any discussion. Qed237 (talk) 20:57, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Qed237: I don't think this is by any means a "fix". If they going through and adding spaces without any other modifications, I might consider that disruptive, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It could be as simple as a typo. Skimming through their contributions, I see where they removed a space (yet added another). My point is it's very, very trivial and not something to complain about. Indeed, I see that this user has a long history of unrelated disruption, but if these spaces are accompanied by an otherwise constructive edit than I'd say even issuing a warning for that alone is unjustified, much less a block MusikAnimal talk 21:27, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I understand your point of view. I guess it is a case where different editors have different opinions and I know that an other editor got blocked for the same thing a few days ago (diff). And although it might have been hard with a week, I thought I better report this editor as well. Both these editors are vbery similar with warnings for various things and not communicating. I will take your words of wisdom, moving forward from this situation. Qed237 (talk) 22:44, 4 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And looking at this it looks like MarcoAlbani1998 has also started edit as IP to avoid the warnings he has got. Qed237 (talk) 00:36, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Category problem

Hey MusikAnimal, please look at User:James mccosker. If you click on "confirmed puppets", there are no accounts listed. Yet, there should be two: User:Phil1371 and User:GarryEvan777. I've never seen his happen before, and god knows I block enough masters and puppets. Any ideas? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:03, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting! These were both added well over a day ago, I would think the job queue would have caught up by now. Purging, null edits, and an actual edit adding {{sockpuppet category}} didn't seem to do the trick. I'm not too sure to be honest, but I bet Redrose64 would have some idea MusikAnimal talk 00:07, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker)I re-entered them by hand and it seems to have done it. You may have copypasted a hidden character (or something). Debouch (talk) 00:46, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
We don't normally enter them by hand. In other words, the category remains red. Not sure what you mean by "copypasted a hidden character (or something)".--Bbb23 (talk) 01:26, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I mean that when you edited the userpages to add {{sock||confirmed}}, that you may have picked up a non-printing character in the copy part of the copypaste, because replacing the ones that you entered with hand-typed ones fixed the problem. This is just a guess. Debouch (talk) 01:59, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
