Revision as of 20:47, 29 August 2016

Welcome to my talk page. Click here to leave me a message.

If you have come here about a page I deleted, you will probably find the explanation here; if that does not answer your question, click the link just above to leave me a message. Please mention the name of the page, and sign your post with four "tilde" characters ~~~~ so that I know who you are.

If I have left a message on your talk page, please reply there; I am watching it.

If you leave a message here I will usually reply here, but if my reply contains advice I hope you will find useful, I may place it on your talk page. (Talk page stalkers: you are welcome; if you see no reply here, there is probably one on the other talk page; I have decided to stop making a note here when I reply there).

You may E-mail me via the "E-mail this user" link under "Toolbox" in the left-hand sidebar, but you will get a faster response here; I suggest you do not use e-mail unless you need privacy. I will normally reply on your talk page, not by e-mail.

Draft:Central Theft Auto

Why did you delete my Draft:Central Theft Auto page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.1.12.200 (talk) 22:51, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Because it's a hoax, despite you spamming it all over Wikipedia. Stop wasting our time. JohnCD (talk) 09:18, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You hate me so I will not contribute to you anymore so I am going to tell off you from now on because I don't like you, JohnCD. I am going to do it, so I don't care for you so I won't contribute you. How do you like that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Willow q (talkcontribs) 09:52, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey bruv, just what you let to know that i've request for a speedy deletion regarding to the draft article of Central Theft Auto. Would you have the evidence on how did you delete the article? TheRealSherlockHolmes 15:07, 15 August 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheNewGuys07 (talkcontribs)
@TheNewGuys07: thanks for tagging it. I'm not sure what you mean by "the evidence"? There's the deletion log, which shows I have actually deleted it twice. If you mean why, I looked for any evidence that such a film was planned, and didn't find any. All I found was that some guy on a dynamic IP, different every day, was spamming references to it all over Wikipedia. Another helpful user had reverted most of them, and I cleared the rest. If you mean how did I delete it, I'm an administrator, so I have a handy "delete" button. As the hoaxer has a new IP each day, there's no way to block him permanently, so we just have to play whack-a-mole until he gets bored. JohnCD (talk) 15:21, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help creating Page

Hello, I want to create a page name Mohit Baghel. Which is deleted previous three times. Wikipedia show message that this page can created by administer. So please help me. Paras7674 (talk) 02:52, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Paras7674: read WP:Your first article and then make a draft at Draft:Mohit Baghel. You will need good references: to have an article, it is not enough just to be an actor, see WP:ENTERTAINER. It was deleted after WP:Articles for deletion/Mohit Baghel because people did not think he had (yet) done enough to be notable in Wikipedia's sense. When your draft is ready, ask The Bushranger (talk), the administrator who closed the deletion discussion, if he will allow it to be posted. JohnCD (talk) 08:43, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Never contribute JohnCD

I am not a fan of you, JohnCD. I am going to stay away from you because you are likely to be bad to me! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Willow q (talkcontribs) 21:58, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well, for my part, "I regard you with an indifference closely bordering on aversion." If you don't want people to "be bad" to you, check out Wikipedia is not for things made up one day and Wikipedia:Verifiability. JohnCD (talk) 16:56, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Users that must be gamers using WP as a host?

This might be one of those projects you'll want to put aside for a time when you are bored...

Those involved:

Pages involved:

I've been watching User:Lcraft11 since it was created. At the time I thought if might just be innocent Wiki Markup practice and didn't pay it much mind. Earlier this week I noticed Lewiscraft (talk · contribs) editing that page, but didn't have time to explore much further.

All of those pages are primarily long lists of infoboxes with photos of world leaders and (at first glance) typical information about those world leaders.

Today I finally had the time to cross-check contribution histories, etc. I found the following:

  • There is a large web of cross-edits amongst these users in the involved pages.
  • There are a few logged-out accounts also editing there.
  • The pages themselves look harmless enough until you realize that many of the names do not match the photos, and the much of the data is made up. Then I scrolled down to the bottom of User:Lcraft11 and found that the data appears to be related to a space-related MMORPG.

So, why I'm here: I though about creating an SPI, but I have no evidence of sockpuppetry, and they are at worst harmless meatpuppets. I could just get their pages deleted, but they look too much like Wiki Markup practice for me to make a case for that. The user's aren't being disruptive. At worst I think they simply aren't here to contribute, and I'm just here asking your opinion on how to proceed. --| Uncle Milty | talk | 21:48, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Uncle Milty: Thanks. I'll look at it when I get bored, but that might not be very soon... JohnCD (talk) 16:53, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Uncle Milty: looks as though they've taken the hint. I usually point people like that to Wikia, where they can do more or less whatever they like, on the same MediaWiki software. Cheers, JohnCD (talk) 09:08, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Thanks for taking the time to look at it. --| Uncle Milty | talk | 17:18, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The Editor's Barnstar
thanks for the edit Kennwes32 (talk) 16:51, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Kennwes32: thank you very much! JohnCD (talk) 19:19, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello JohnCD. For reasons that are so technical that I have never been able to completely understand them adding a ping to an existing post and then re-adding your signature does not work. So let me add the ping @Kennwes32: in my post so the K will be sure to see it. BTW I agree with the awarding of the barnstar and thanks for all your efforts here at WikiP. Cheers to you both. MarnetteD|Talk 19:41, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@MarnetteD: ah, I had thought that as long as the ping and a signature were in the same edit, it worked. I shall have to be more careful. Thanks. JohnCD (talk) 09:11, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I decided that this is one of the rare occasions when correcting another editor's post on a discussion page is justified, but if for any reason you disagree, please let me know. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 17:44, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@JamesBWatson: I often have difficulty with links to Commons, but I do usually check my links to be sure they work. Thanks for fixing it! I am coming round to delete: you have a good point that the royal connection should have left some traces. I had hoped to check with one of the books cited, which Worldcat shows as held in my local county library system, but their catalogue doesn't list it. JohnCD (talk) 19:17, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A quick thank-you

Hi John, Just wanted to say a quick thank-you for providing further details as to why my submission was deleted. For quick future reference... if third party sources do become available at some point in the future, would I be permitted to resubmit the article (with links to the sources, of course), provided it is written from a neutral point of view? Thank-you again. Julie Jlovisa (talk) 09:10, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jlovisa: yes, provided the independent coverage is substantial, not just passing mentions. Read the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide and don't post an article directly, but use WP:Articles for creation to make a draft for review by an uninvolved user. Check out WP:Wikipedia is not a dictionary#Neologisms, and bear in mind that Wikipedia is very resistant to anything that looks like promotion. JohnCD (talk) 09:34, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please salt Paul Johnson (presenter), Up Late with Paul and Up Late With Paul? On each I had to request speedy deletion twice.--Launchballer 19:56, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Launchballer:  Done for the presenter, I don't think it's necessary for the others, which have only 2 deletions between them. I have watchlisted them. My finger was poised on the block button, but he didn't edit again after your final warning. JohnCD (talk) 09:41, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of a photo on Wikimedia

I uploaded a picture of Michael Sdao when I thought he qualified for a Wiki page. The page was deleted due to not meeting the standards required for a page. There is no page but the image remains on Wikimedia. Can you help me delete that photo?

File:Michael Sdao.jpg - Wikimedia Common — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jannienuts (talkcontribs) 04:22, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jannienuts: that picture is now in Commons, a separate organization for holding media files. The way to request deletion is:
  • Click on File:Michael Sdao.jpg
  • Click on the words "description page there" a few lines below the image.
  • Now you are in Commons. Click on "Nominate for deletion" under "Tools" in the left-hand sidebar.
  • In the "reason" box, write something like "Unused photo, uploader requests deletion" and click "Proceed".
It should be gone in a week or so. JohnCD (talk) 09:28, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help writing an article

Hi John, I really need help on writing an article, can you help me please! From HUNNSSHCU! — Preceding unsigned comment added by HUNNSSHCU (talkcontribs) 09:59, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@HUNNSSHCU: start by reading the links in the Welcome message at the top of your talk page, particularly Wikipedia:Your first article. Make sure you have enough sources to show that your subject is notable. Then use Wikipedia:Articles for creation to guide you through the process. That will give you the option to send a draft for review by an experienced user, who will either accept it or give you feedback.
On talk pages (but not in articles) it helps to know who said what when if you end your contributions with a group of four "tilde" characters ~~~~, which the system will convert to a "signature" of your username and the time and date, like this: JohnCD (talk) 10:20, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jannienuts (talkcontribs) 14:19, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal: New Page Reviewer user right

A discussion is taking place to request that New Page Patrollers be suitably experienced for patrolling new pages. Your comments at New pages patrol/RfC for patroller right are welcome. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 17:10, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Backlog

The NPP backlog now stands at 13,158 total unreviewed pages.

Just to recap:

  • 13 July 2016: 7,000
  • 1 August 2016: 9,000
  • 7 August 2016: 10,472
  • 16 August 2016: 11,500
  • 28 August 2016: 13,158

You naturally don't have to feel obliged, but if there's anything you can do it would be most appreciated. I've spent 40 hours on it this week but it's only a drop in the ocean.--Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 17:10, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
