Dr. Chuck
Thank you so much for your clarification and movement of the entry to a user/subpage. I will be able to update as I have been doing in order to establish notability as I discover other who are citing some of my research and as I advance my own interests. I will additionally attempt to find a useful template for the main user page to reflect some of my other projects. Dr. Chuck (talk) 14:07, 8 December 2014 (UTC)Charles A. Findley
Firefly (film) featuring Evie-may Fernyhough (me)
Thank you very, very (sarcasm) much for deleting my page (Firefly (film) featuring Evie-may Fernyhough). That page was not a hoax, it was a training film for trainee directors, that's why it never made the cinema, becasue there was no need, and it wasn't an 'actual' film. I would very much like my page back, and I think you should have had more evidence to delete the page, becasue you were obviously wrong. My boss instructed me to make this page for other trainee directors too, and I do not want say he will sue, because I don't want my page back by force, but I am afraid he probably will. So could I please have my film page back, becasue it is a big part in the film company I work for. Well done in messing in other peoples business, without evidence. Evie-may Fernyhough — Preceding unsigned comment added by Movie...huh? (talk • contribs) 13:15, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Movie...huh?: sorry, but you will have to explain to your boss that Wikipedia is not for this sort of thing. As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia is quite choosy about subjects for articles. What a film needs to have achieved before it can have an article is explained at WP:Notability (films), and a training film like this does not come anywhere near. Also, you should not be writing about your own film here - see Wikipedia is not about YOU. There are plenty of sites like Facebook, or Myspace, or possibly Moviepedia, where you could write about your film, but Wikipedia is different.
- Having said all that, because your page was deleted by a process called "Proposed deletion", the rules say that if you ask for it back it is restored without question, but may be nominated for deletion by a different process called WP:Articles for deletion, so that more people can give their opinions. So I have done that, and it is back at FireFly (2012 film) (I added "2012" because of possible confusion with an existing article Firefly (film)). The deletion discussion is at WP:Articles for deletion/FireFly (2012 film). That discussion will last (normally) for seven days, and then an uninvolved administrator will decide what to do. You are welcome to contribute to the discussion, but first you should read WP:Notability (films) and WP:DISCUSSAFD.
- Please don't use the word "sue" here unless you really mean it, because anyone who makes legal threats is blocked.
- I am sorry you have had a frustrating introduction to Wikipedia. The links in the Welcome message on your talk page will tell you more about it, and there is a groups of users interested in film at WP:WikiProject Film. JohnCD (talk) 21:35, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'm blocking them for a legal threat because although she herself wasn't going to sue, she was very clearly stating that her boss would sue and was using that as a way to get what she wanted. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:51, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
Placename hoaxes
Yes, waiting for the AfDs to clear seems like the best way to go. I'll write up AfDs for other faked material shortly. There are a few places that may or may not be fakes which need further research. Additional landforms on Google Maps seem to have been compromised; e.g., both Maar, North Dakota and the adjacent Caldera, Montana are fakes (both names denote volcanic landforms and this area is a glaciated plain), but Google Maps gives names to a number of lakes in the immediate area, none of which are substantiated by topographic maps. I suspect this is also the case for Neufa, Connecticut and Neufa Pond, but I might like a second opinion from local editors. (Lewis Atwood Brook, by contrast, preserves the name of a 19th-century resident and is quite legitimate.) Choess (talk) 03:23, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

Hello John. I can confirm that Dr Jonathan De Mornay has been in contact with 'debresser' from history of edits even sending emails between them and Jonathan and Peter has been shown for many years. (Redacted) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robertj290 (talk • contribs) 02:36, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Robertj290: I became aware of this because a new account was automatically flagged as a likely company account. These are not permitted, among other reasons because they are usually here for promotional purposes. What the new account was doing was adding unsourced puffery about the "core expertise... in branding and management consulting" of one of the step-brothers. Wikipedia is not for promotion, and the WP:Verifiability policy is that "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source". Private emails are not enough. Reading the whole article, it seemed to me that, apart from being unsourced, the material about the step-brothers was irrelevant to an article about Ms De Mornay and her career. Wikipedia is not a gossip site.
- The way Wikipedia works is described at WP:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. I removed this material, you re-added it, another user has removed it again. We should not edit-war: if you think it should be included, please make a proposal on the article talk page, citing reliable published sources for what you want to add, and explaining why it is relevant to an article about Ms De Mornay and her career. JohnCD (talk) 13:25, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- I agree with JohnCD completely. Debresser (talk) 14:00, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Dear John, I was earlier working on a page about my father, the well known producer Andrew Skelton, While I was away it was deleted by yourself. Restoring Brightview Senior Living article, please
Hi JohnCD. I am writing about the deletion of the Brightview Senior Living article. I would like the opportunity to edit and make adjustments as it is material that should be considered encyclopedic. It was certainly NOT meant as advertising. I have a number of edits to make already as well as sources to add and delete. I would apprecaite another shot, please. Best, Shs123 (talk) 16:45, 15 December 2014 (UTC)shs123
- @Shs123: What you wrote included: "Known for offering a holistic approach to care and life enrichment, Brightview communities are joyful places... By providing excellent service and quality care from highly trained and energetic associates, Brightview is committed to creating vibrant senior living communities... With an outstanding track record of achieving extraordinary results... "
- That sort of marketing-speak might be expected, if rather over-the-top, in the company's own promotional literature, but it has absolutely no place in an encyclopedia article, which requires a neutral point of view. That is the company trumpeting the story it wants to tell the world, and anything remotely like that is deleted from Wikipedia at sight.
- If you really believe that all those glowing adjectives are not advertising, I can only conclude that you are so close to the company that you are unable to take a detached view of it, and so should not be writing about it here. That is one reason why editing with a WP:Conflict of interest is strongly discouraged. My advice is: wait until someone not connected with the company thinks it important or significant enough to write about. If you want to try again, start with a clean sheet and follow the advice of a very experienced Wikipedian in User:Uncle G/On notability#Writing about subjects close to you:
When writing about subjects that are close to you, don't use your own personal knowledge of the subject, and don't cite yourself, your web site, or the subject's web site. Instead, use what is written about the subject by other people, independently, as your sources. Cite those sources in your very first edit. If you don't have such sources, don't write.

Deleting of Youngcare Page
Hi JohnCD - I'm messaging you regarding the page you deleted earlier this month entitled "Youngcare". I've read the information on your user page regarding the reasons for deleting pages. I'm assuming the Youngcare page was deleted because of issues with notability? I included a number of secondary sources - and have aimed to keep the information objective. I'm keen to have this article back up again, could you please tell what I need to do to ensure it meets requirements? I've had a look at a number of not-for-profits that are up there and this one seems to be in the same vein. Thanks so much for your time. Jake JakeMyers15 (talk) 05:42, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- @JakeMyers15: the article Youngcare has not been deleted - what I deleted was an abandoned draft at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Youngcare. JohnCD (talk) 10:01, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Diakrit
Hi, you deleted User:DIAKRIT/sandbox and blocked User:DIAKRIT, but the article is back at User:Louisecandersson. I'm tagging it for G11, but author may blank it and recreate it again... perhaps you could take a look. — kikichugirl ? 06:54, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Kikichugirl: thanks for letting me know. Another admin has already deleted the page. I gave user:DIAKRIT a soft-block which invites them to set up a new, individual account, so user:Louisecandersson is OK, not a blockable sock-puppet, though she will have to learn WP is not for advertising. JohnCD (talk) 10:08, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Request for text of draft
Dear JohnCD, Greetings! Grateful thanks for your prompt response. I get your point, and request you to please make available my original text i had prepared and submitted the previous year for approval. Since, i had done that in hurry to present the page on the occasion of Maharshi Santsevi's birthday, i could not save many portions of the article. I intend to improve the article as suggested by you. If the text could be made available, it would make my task easier. Best regards, Pravesh — Preceding unsigned comment added by Praveshksingh (talk • contribs) 11:02, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Praveshksingh: Done. I have emailed the text to you; but an acceptable article will look nothing like that, for the reasons I explained at WP:REFUND#Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Santsevi Paramhans. Also see User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard. JohnCD (talk) 11:35, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Suggestion
I see you blocked Robertj290. Since you are an involved editor (you have reverted him 3 times on the article), I think you should undo your block, and ask another admin to review the situation.
Please note that this is formal objection only, while as to the subject, I agree with you completely. Debresser (talk) 20:24, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Debresser: I considered myself to be de-spamming the article rather than contributing to the content, and so not "involved"; but on consideration you have a point, and I will take the block to AN for review. Going through the history, attempts to push this content in have been going on since 2010, maybe earlier, involving at least five SPA accounts plus IPs; this edit summary from 2011 is illuminating and may explain the persistence. I intend also to make an entry at WP:BLP/N to get more eyes on the article. JohnCD (talk) 22:23, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking my suggestion. I think it is the wise thing to do. More eyes can only benefit the article. Debresser (talk) 16:03, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Adding an IP to a closed SPI archive
Hi John, had a quickie: I found an IP (109.9.0.33) who I suspect of being a sock IP of Maelbros. I think it's useful to include this info in the archive, but I don't want to open a new report, since CheckUser won't be used anyway. What's the best way to do this? Just add it manually in the archive? Do I have to create new sections or can I just append it to the 10 December 2014 block as a comment? Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:46, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'm don't think it's worth bothering, unless the IP comes back - not likely, as it seems to be a dynamic IP. Also, it geolocates to France, whereas the two IPs in the SPI were in Greece and America. JohnCD (talk) 23:12, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- Point noted, thank you. Assuming different circumstances, what is the best approach to appending the information? Re-open the case or just cram it into the archive? Much obliged, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:21, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Bushranger article
Hello I noticed you changed the name of the article Bushranger (4WD) The website here [1] uses one word not two? Have you got a better source for the correct name? Cheers Theroadislong (talk) 23:24, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- I did it in response to this request, after checking that the site the article gives as a source, http://www.bushrangeratv.com.au, which seems to be the actual makers, uses two words. JohnCD (talk) 23:33, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- Ah I see my external link is not the same company then. No worries. Theroadislong (talk) 23:47, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Bush Ranger 4WD
Thank you for your help, JohnCD. There has been much confusion over this name in the twenty or so years that the Bush Rangers have been in production. I am afraid my editing skills are VERY limited (the language and site confuse me) and I appreciate your help in clarifying this matter. --DRMBR (talk) 01:17, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- No worries! I have left a redirect from Bushranger (4WD) as that is evidently used, too, but the pictures here show that what is painted on the actual cars is BUSH RANGER, or sometimes BUSH RANGIE. JohnCD (talk) 21:34, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
VisualEditor newsletter—December 2014
Did you know?
Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has fixed many bugs and worked on table editing and performance. Their weekly status reports are posted on Mediawiki.org. Upcoming plans are posted at the VisualEditor roadmap.
VisualEditor was deployed to several hundred remaining wikis as an opt-in beta feature at the end of November, except for most Wiktionaries (which depend heavily upon templates) and all Wikisources (which await integration with ProofreadPage).
Recent improvements
Basic support for editing tables is available. You can insert new tables, add and remove rows and columns, set or remove a caption for a table, and merge cells together. To change the contents of a cell, double-click inside it. More features will be added in the coming months. In addition, VisualEditor now ignores broken, invalid rowspan
and colspan
elements, instead of trying to repair them.
You can now use find and replace in VisualEditor, reachable through the tool menu or by pressing ⌃ Ctrl+F or ⌘ Cmd+F.
You can now create and edit simple <blockquote>
paragraphs for quoting and indenting content. This changes a "Paragraph" into a "Block quote".
Some new keyboard sequences can be used to format content. At the start of the line, typing "* " will make the line a bullet list; "1. " or "# " will make it a numbered list; "==" will make it a section heading; ": " will make it a blockquote. If you didn't mean to use these tools, you can press undo to undo the formatting change. There are also two other keyboard sequences: "[[" for opening the link tool, and "{{" for opening the template tool, to help experienced editors. The existing standard keyboard shortcuts, like ⌃ Ctrl+K to open the link editor, still work.
If you add a category that has been redirected, then VisualEditor now adds its target. Categories without description pages show up as red.
You can again create and edit galleries as wikitext code.
Looking ahead
VisualEditor will replace the existing design with a new theme designed by the User Experience group. The new theme will be visible for desktop systems at MediaWiki.org in late December and at other sites early January. (You can see a developer preview of the old "Apex" theme and the new "MediaWiki" one which will replace it.)
The Editing team plans to add auto-fill features for citations in January. Planned changes to the media search dialog will make choosing between possible images easier.

Hey John, I want to ask that Wikipedia is allowing autobiography of person or not. I want to put autobiography of person.
Thanks . — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bhavesh.j777 (talk • contribs) 11:58, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Bhavesh.j777: autobiography is very strongly discouraged in Wikipedia, for reasons explained at Wikipedia:Autobiography. Even Wikipedia user pages are not for autobiographies - see WP:NOTWEBHOST.
- Social-networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn are the best places for people to tell the world about themselves. JohnCD (talk) 12:06, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for knowing me. But I am little confuse about that there are numbers of living person biographies on Wikipedia(i.e. 1.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amitabh_Bachchan,2.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aishwarya_Rai_Bachchan), is there another way for that. Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bhavesh.j777 (talk • contribs) 12:13, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, there are many articles about living people, but (a) they did not write those articles themselves, and (b) they are notable enough to appear in an encyclopedia, which means they have been the subject of "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject", and other people are interested enough to write about them. Taking Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as an example, look at the list of references at the bottom, and the article history. JohnCD (talk) 12:35, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Hello JohnCD I wrote that article. IMDB is a site were you can write you own bio's. I have an account with them and can edit it anytime I choose. That information on IMDB was not copy written because is belong to me. I know it looks like I copied it from IMDB. I am the person who wrote that bio. Thanks again, 108.251.108.176 (talk) 17:12, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Demetrius Guidry: please read what I wrote at WP:REFUND. Copyright has serious legal implications for Wikipedia. It is not enough that someone on the end of a wire says he wrote it. The material cannot be restored here unless the actual copyright owner follows the steps in WP:Donating copyrighted material to make a formal copyright release.
- You can either make a copyright release, or write again in different words, without copying sentences from IMDb or even WP:Close paraphrasing. I have deleted what you wrote on the draft page, to leave it clear if you want to start again - there is no need to ask the same question in many places.
- Incidentally, the fact that anyone can write anything on IMDb means that it is not a WP:Reliable source for Wikipedia's WP:Verifiability policy. JohnCD (talk) 17:33, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

New user
I am totally new to Wikipedia. So I apologise for getting the entry wrong. But I did read the guidelines and changed accordingly. I want to be removed completely from this service now as it seems I am not ready for the closed cartel of operators on here. I genuinely did not know my entry was wrong, so I changed it. All I got back were rude responses from a Guy called Bajz. Instead of helping he just attacked me. Thank you for your comments though. Happy New Year — Preceding unsigned comment added by Howardccox (talk • contribs) 15:16, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Howardccox: Don't worry - I am sorry that we don't make it clearer to new users that this is a project to build an encyclopedia, not a "notice-board" site like Facebook for people to write about themselves or their own causes or campaigns. That would save time and embarrassment.
- Accounts are not deleted, but you can simply walk away and stop using yours. If you like, you can blank anything on your user talk page. If in future you want to contribute on subjects where you don't have a COI, the account will still be there for you. If you want more than that, and you are leaving Wikipedia permanently, see WP:Courtesy vanishing. JohnCD (talk) 15:56, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
I have no idea what ive done. I am sorry I really am. Just delete all aspects of what I have done that is so heinous. - I'll think about it overnight. It occurred to me when writing this reply just now that we have got much less tolerant than we used to be of incomplete stubs in the mainspace, so that people who have not been active lately and were accustomed to bung in a couple of sentences and come back to it later are now surprised and indignant to get an A3 or A7 deletion. Interested in rewriting Brightview Senior Living entry but need your assistance to undelete it.
Hi JohnCD. I am writing again as I am interested in rewriting the Brightview Senior Living entry. It was certainly not intended as unambigious advertising. I also have several outside sources to include. I've written twice previously be have not received a response. Thank you in advance. Best, shs123Shs123 (talk) 17:35, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- Advice on your talk page. JohnCD (talk) 20:24, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Hey John, I appreciate your comments on the AfD for this article and for the record, I never commented that I thought the article or the previous Bios for Ward and Moore were anything special or particularly noteworthy. In fact, I consider them fairly lousy, sourced Yes, but more sad than interesting. What I objected to was the influx of SOCKs and the fake posturing that flooded in as a result of a request at BLPN to improve an article. But its been pretty clearly demonstrated that there are few "clean hands" in the process. Its why I changed my vote to "Delete". I don't know what the intentions are of the non-regular Wikipedians (meaning people besides you and Risker, Fluffer, and such), but its pretty clearly WP:NOTHERE to me. Best regards, --Scalhotrod (Talk) ☮ღ☺ 19:30, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- I realised that your comments were probably mainly about the previous AfDs on the individuals, which I didn't follow in detail. The point I wanted to make was that this deletion, at least, was not the result of external pressures or socking but of a majority of experienced Wikipedians thinking that this isn't Murderpedia, and that there was nothing encyclopedically significant about the case. It's surprising how many people who say "There are sources, so it passes the GNG" have not read the actual GNG, where the fifth bullet point explicitly defers to WP:NOT. JohnCD (talk) 22:22, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- I realized that about your comments as well, and agree. Editors like us will go on to build, while others will continue to BS. --Scalhotrod (Talk) ☮ღ☺ 17:54, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
Angel Sessions
Hello, I have fixed the issue with why the article for Angel Sessions was deleted. The IMDB Bio has been deleted from that site and is no longer in violation of any copyrights. Please reinstate the article so I can continue and resubmit for review. Thanks. Demetrius Guidry (talk) 15:04, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- Just deleting the source doesn't solve the problem. What you could do is, put it back up on IMDb with a release notice as specified at WP:DONATETEXT. IMDb pages generally say "Copyright © 1990-2015 IMDb.com, Inc.", and I don't suppose you can remove that, but you could put something like "The text of this biography is released... " etc. JohnCD (talk) 23:05, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Difference in opinion and definition
JohnCD, While it is true that I am a professional publicist, if you would look at the edits or additions that I have made to Wikipedia articles, you will see that none of them are used in the vein of "marketing", "publicity" or "promotion" intended or created for anyone's direct gain. I kindly ask that you research what I have done versus what you are accusing me of, before making assumptions. You do not know me, I do not know you--however, I am going to assume that you take the encyclopedia definition of Wikipedia as strongly as I do. I thoroughly understand it is not a place for PR spin and selling products. However, Wikipedia does need to be updated to reflect changes in the articles it contains--otherwise it is worthless as an encyclopedia. BlackAndBlueMedia (talk) 22:03, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- @BlackAndBlueMedia: I did not accuse you of anything, only pointed you to guidance which you need to understand if you are to edit here as a paid publicity agent. Unfortunately, very many people see Wikipedia as a free promotion platform, and they are usually genuinely convinced that what they are doing is not promotion, just "telling the world" about their client; but Wikipedia has a much more austere attitude to what is or is not promotional. For instance, "He is proficient in delivering high energy, Euro style hardcore from both behind, and in front of, the camera" reads like publicity-speak to me.
- That is why it is strongly suggested that you do not edit directly except on absolutely unexceptionable matters of fact, but otherwise make suggestions on article talk pages or submit drafts for uninvolved users to review, and why it is absolutely required that you declare your interest.
- It will save you a lot of trouble and make it much easier for you to work with Wikipedia and not against it, if you read WP:COI and WP:PSCOI carefully from end to end. JohnCD (talk) 22:39, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
I want to add an article about myself.
I had requests from many people regarding my personal information on Wikipedia. I had earlier add an article, about 2-3 years ago, but was deleted. Now its your kindness and goodness, if you allow me to write an article about myself. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tantrayshoaib (talk • contribs) 13:45, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Tantrayshoaib: I see you wrote another article and it was deleted again. Sorry, but it would just be a waste of your time to try again. Wikipedia is a project to build an encyclopedia, not a social-networking site for people to write about themselves. You can do that on Facebook or LinkedIn, and people can read about you there, but Wikipedia is different - see Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography. JohnCD (talk) 17:24, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
Ebenezer Crumment
If the Ebenezer Crummett article is accepted as hoax should the accounts that contributed to it (and only to it) be checked to see if they are socks (and then blocked so they can't be used again)? —Noah (talk) 20:47, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- There are three of them, DESJ (talk · contribs), Pennwar (talk · contribs) and Davidesg (talk · contribs), but they last edited Sep 2010, May 2013 and Jan 2011 respectively. That is too old for checkuser to say anything, and I don't think there's really any point blocking after all this time - if they return and see their hoax has been rumbled, they are unlikely to edit again with those accounts. Hoaxers usually use throwaway accounts, though they do occasionally come out of the woodwork to try to defend their creations. JohnCD (talk) 21:28, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- OK, good points. Thanks for the info... just wanted to make sure we weren't missing anything. —Noah (talk) 21:33, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi John. I read through your post about our author's wiki article. The wiki page has existed for a bit, but as a newer author with 2 books, we're just now getting independent resources to link to, which is what we came to do when we found the page deleted. We're aware of the need for neutrality, though appreciate the links. She has three sources not her own on the list, but will have more as more press occurs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gsp laurel (talk • contribs) 21:12, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Gsp laurel: yes, but all three sources not her own are dead links. JohnCD (talk) 21:18, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
They weren't dead links previously. How does Wikipedia handle that? I'm sure as various magazines have gone out of print due to the transition to eMags that other pages have had old articles go dead. The information is still valid, but it's not like a new magazine will cover the exact topic/quote that an old one did. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gsp laurel (talk • contribs) 21:32, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- It's a problem, discussed with some hints at WP:Link rot. I managed to find an up-to-date link for RAINN, but I see you have already found it. "Score! Music Magazine" and "Splendid E-Zine" seem to have sunk without trace, which is a pity, as they actually said something relevant. Do you know anything like date, issue number, page number or author's name? I have tried feeding in some of the sentences from the reviews, but that only turns up the innumerable Wikipedia mirrors. JohnCD (talk) 22:47, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
Utsav Lal
Hi John. Thanks for your reply on my query regarding my page on Utsav Lal being deleted. I see your point of view totally. In my mind I was supplying factual information, since all facts were supported by external references and links to authenticate any claim or information put on the page, but I now realise that you are correct and the wording and use of adjectives became marketing oriented. Not at all desirable and not what one would come to wikipedia for! Totally my mistake...just didnt realise as thought since facts have backing, its ok to put them down in such a manner. You are absolutely right and the page should be redone with factual information with no promotional intent.( frankly embarassed at how I missed that.I love wikipedia and what it stands for...an encyclopaedia not a promo flier!!).
I was actually unaware of the WP:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide lines and have gone through them. and feel thank God for them..makes sure that the purity and sanctity of the work happening here is maintained. I am related to Utsav lal so would be governed by the same. The guidelines there seem to list and advice one to be transparent in such a situation, indicate relationship and aim to summarize, inform and establish indpendent reliable sources for facts. is that correct? Can I recreate the page and follow the guidelines on putting down information as per your advice and wikipedeia guidelines ? what do I need to do now ?
Sangita Lal (talk) 11:35, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Sangita Lal:: what you should do is, click on Help:Userspace draft and fill in the title. That will make a draft page where you can work on an article, with a link to send it, when it is ready, to WP:Articles for creation, where an experienced user will look at it and either accept it or give you feedback. Read User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard for more advice - it is mainly written for people who copy their own website or Facebook page into Wikipedia, but some of it is relevant for you. Page Deletion
Hi JohnCD,
I'm writing about the FairFX page that was deleted quite some time ago.
Firstly, I'd like to apologise for any spammy behaviour of the past - I've spent a couple days now learning Wikipedia admin and I've fallen in love. I'm a Wikipedia addict and can't thank the team enough for endless hours of knowledge, so it's great to fully understand how it works now.
I'm the head of digital marketing here at FairFX and would love to come to a resolve on this - as it's vital we have a section on Wikipedia (for so many reasons which I'm sure you're aware).
I've re-written the whole page to include purely factual information with accurate sources that reflect the statements mentioned in our article.
Could you advise how I upload this to our existing page, or create a new one?
Thanks John, any advise would be much appreciated.

Hi John, as an administrator of Wikipedia, would you be able to RevDelete some history on an article I recently submitted please? It has been approved but features my sandbox from May 2013 when I was writing a different article. I'd really appreciate your help in removing all 2013 (and earlier) based history on the article. Deletion of page re William Bourdon
I was wondering why this page was deleted. William Bourdon is a well known human rights lawyer in France and I was hoping to use his Wikipedia page, which I was sure must exist, to introduce him to someone in need of human rights support in France.

Marshall ADG page deletion
Hi,
I have been appointed by Marshall ADG to setup & manage a page on Wikipedia about their business. After several months of research and editing, I submitted the page for review and it was rejected. I have now found out that you have deleted the page and blocked the MarshallADG account because of copyright violations on the imagery we used on the page.
All the photography was supplied to me by Marshall ADG themselves from their corporate archives, and I am certain that they hold the copyright to the images. I suspect I have therefore simply worked through the upload wizard incorrectly - this is the first time I've edited a Wikipedia page and I haven't found it easy!
I'd be really grateful if you could help me recover the page; if I need to re-upload the imagery, could you let me know what I need to do in order to comply with the copyright guidelines please?
Many thanks,
Dave

Notability deletion of ISPE article
Good morning, day or night, JohnCD.
While browsing the pages arround High IQ society, I noticed that you deleted International Society for Philosophical Enquiry a while back and I wanted to provide a few arguments for you to reconsider.^^ The reason stated on the delete history is about notability and states that not sufficient third party verification was available. I don't much like unsourced and irrelevant topics on Wiki and I'm sure I'm not alone on that but I do believe the ISPE is mentioned in plenty independent publications to be worth an entry in Wikipedia. Here are some sources for you, which all mention the ISPE and I have tried to get rid of selections which might be somehow connected to members. The ISPE is of course mentioned in several online write-ups of high IQ societies (here is an example: http://www.polymath-systems.com/intel/hiqsocs/hiqsocs1.html) but I agree that this is not sufficient, since many of the societies listed on the example site are too small and have no received much reference. This here is an honest attempt at showing third party sources (i.e. sources published by independant authors that I consider relevant to Wikipedia). =) I compiled and source-checked these from Wikipedia entries of other languages and a bit of googling. Here we go:
- ) ISPE is explicitly mentioned in two of the Guinness Book of World Records (editions 1981 and 1993.). It is on page 35 of the '81 edition and page 386 of the 1993 one.

- ) World Almanac and Book of Facts 2000 mentions ISPE under "Associations and Societites".

I have not been able to tell if Daniel Price is a member of ISPE or affiliated, so I note that he might be. However, his book is nonetheless not self-published but published in a known imprint. The decision on whether this one matters is definitely up to you.

So that is a short list of the sources from other websites which I checked and found independent references to ISPE on. I do hope you reconsider deleting the page, since the ISPE is one of the oldest and most well-known IQ societies after the internationally known Mensa. Whichever way you decide, thank you for considering the request. =) I am sorry if this post has gone on for too long but I read your Q&A and you asked for sources, so I felt like providing more rather than too few. This list in no way claims to be complete. It probably isn't. :P
With your allowance, I would like to recreate the article and properly source references this time.

Blocking of SOSUCARE User name on wikipedia
Hi JohnCD, My name is James Najohapa, Executive Director of SOSUCARE Organtization in South Sudan in Africa. Today, I created the page account for our NGO SOSUCARE with this email: ( sosucares@gmail.com ) and I have just got your message, which said the user name is'BLOCKED. Can you please advise us on what to do with this user name (SOSUCARE) as this is the name of our NGO.
Your response will be highly appreciated. Thank you,
- The block notice on the talk page explains: I blocked that account because Wikipedia accounts are for individuals only, who are personally responsible for them, and accounts whose usernames are the names of groups or organizations are not permitted. Also, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place for organizations to tell the world about themselves, even if they are good causes - see Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause. You do not need to do anything about the User:SOSUCARE account; it will drop off Google searches quite soon. JohnCD (talk) 22:35, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
- Dear JohnCD, thanks for the response.Much appreciated. Can you please delete (User:SOSUCARE) on Wikipedia. Thank you, SOSUCARE

My Deleted Page
could you please why you deleted my account (User:Sirus_Kashefi)? This page was online for several days. Your sending information is not honestly clear about the reason of deletion. Could you please say me that you decided to delete it by receiving any complain? Did Osgoode Hall Law School or any person connected to this organization ask you to do it?
Many thanks,
Sirus Kashefi — Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.23.78.89 (talk) 03:00, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Sirus Kashefi: I have not deleted your account, which is still available to you, only your user page. The reason for deletion is that Wikipedia is not for what you want to do. You want to complain about the rejection of your thesis and present your ideas. There are plenty of places on the Internet where you can do that, such as Change.org and Independent.academia.edu, but Wikipedia is not one of them. It is not a general discussion website, but a project to build an encyclopedia, and its pages, including user pages, are only for that purpose. See Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia is not a soapbox, WP:UPNOT and WP:RGW.
- No external body or person asked for the page to be removed. One of the many volunteer patrollers who check new changes flagged it as unsuitable, which put it on a list for administrator attention. Working down that list, I looked at it, agreed and deleted it. This is not censorship (see WP:FREESPEECH), it is simply keeping Wikipedia to its core mission.
- The same considerations apply to your sandbox page, which I am about to nominate for deletion - see note on your talk page User talk:Sirus_Kashefi. JohnCD (talk) 11:57, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
Gurmeet singh dhillon
Looks like sock puppetry as well, found at least 2 users with this name. Interesting that the name Gurmeet singh dhillon does have a match on this page: Buttar Kalan, Moga which when you go to the history part does seem to have some misspelling issues. Wgolf (talk) 21:37, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Wgolf: I think it's probably not that uncommon as an Indian name. Yesterday, this one was only "famus person of website builder" at Gurmeet dhillon; today, my first thought was that there was enough there to pass A7, but then I found he has invented his glowing career by copying Gippy Grewal and changing the names. Time for WP:NOTHERE blocks all round, I think, and I will open an SPI if he comes back again. JohnCD (talk) 21:57, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

- Yes, that's why we have two pairs of eyes for deletion, and waiting for an admin gives a chance for it to develop. I don't know why people will post "watch-this-space" articles instead of developing in a sandbox until it looks respectable; but I see that author has been around more than ten years, and I think in the very old days it was more acceptable to throw in a sentence and leave it for others to develop. - It's not enough to be a real person. In order to have a Wikipedia article, a person needs to have Wikipedia:Notability, which is not a matter of saying so but has to be demonstrated by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." See WP:Notability (summary). The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought him significant enough to write substantial comment about?
- An article should not be about what he says about himself, but about what he has done, and what other people say about him. Read WP:Your first article for advice, find independent references, and then use the WP:Article wizard to help you make an article. JohnCD (talk) 22:44, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
Why did you delete The Crawling Book Series?
I said on the talk page that I would update it with more information, but Today I go and I find it deleted. What was missing?? AahdTahar (talk) 13:56, 16 March 2015 (UTC)AahdTahar
- @AahdTahar: your article The Crawling (Book) was deleted after a discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Crawling (Book). If you think that discussion was wrongly decided, or you have new information, you should approach the administrator who closed the discussion, user MelanieN (talk). Then, if you are not satisfied, you may apply at WP:Deletion review.
- But you will be wasting your time, because Wikipedia is quite choosy about subjects for articles. The notability requirements for a book to have an article are explained at WP:Notability (books), particularly the section WP:BKTS. Also, Wikipedia is not a place for people to write about their own books, even notable ones, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU. You may get some ideas at Wikipedia:Alternative outlets for places where you could write about your book. JohnCD (talk) 14:15, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

- No. Sorry, but four different reviewers have now declined this, and after the discussion at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Draft:Suraj Gowda I think it would be a waste of your time, as well as ours, to keep submitting it. If you want, you may appeal at WP:Deletion review, but my advice is to give up on this one and find something else to edit. JohnCD (talk) 22:37, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

- Sorry, no. Wikipedia is a project to build an encyclopedia, not a social-networking site for people to write about themselves and their friends and their Youtube videos. The test for inclusion is called Wikipedia:Notability and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? JohnCD (talk) 10:35, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Soft robotics
Hey John. If some other people than infringers devoted time to this draft then to that extent it's a shame their time would be wasted upon deletion but I think it should be because it's just too tainted. I've just removed numerous additional copyvios from diverse sources and I'm not at all sure the material left is clean (I also think it would be not just cleaner but much easier for this to be built from a fresh start; working from a disjointed mess is too hard). Having a history that is so riddled with removed copyvios is also problematic.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 21:39, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Fuhghettaboutit: maybe you're right, but:
- Seven of the eleven passages I removed were from from http://journal.frontiersin.org/article/10.3389/fbioe.2014.00003/full, which has a CC-BY license, so that a {{CC-notice}} template would make them legal.
- One of yours (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4090912/) is a copy of the same paper
- I'm pretty sure Nyanglish.com is copying from us - I found several sentences where the only Ghits were Nyanglish and the wpedia.goo.ne.jp mirror site - so that one's not a copyvio.
- That still leaves the other problems (and I haven't looked at the images yet). It seems a pity to lose all the work that has been done on compiling references. It rather depends how much work SirJamesHunt wants to put into it. If he's prepared to do a major rewrite, I would be inclined to keep the draft for him to use as a basis. Otherwise, I agree it should be deleted. Perhaps the list of references could be preserved somewhere against the day someone tries again - it's certainly a notable subject. JohnCD (talk) 22:26, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah you're right Nyanglish is some sort of English phrase search engine but most of what I removed was not from there. The CC-BY content was still a copyvio since it was being used without any attribution, much less in the manner specified by the licensors. I don't want to jump any guns if anyone is willing to take this on. Let's see what it looks like in a month.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 01:53, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- Yes. I thought of putting back the paragraphs copied from the CC-BY paper, but although a general {{CC-notice}} template would make it legal, i.e. not a copyright violation, there is still the separate issue of WP:Plagiarism: the authors should be credited for their words where they are used, and I'm not sure how best to do that. JohnCD (talk) 12:42, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- Just to be clear (and pedantic, sorry), a general CC-notice template would not be sufficient. CC licenses require specific attribution credit if supplied, and the authors do specify at the bottom of the external article. Click on "appropriate credit" at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ --Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:50, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

Hey Fuhghettaboutit (talk) and JohnCD (talk) - Thank you so much for all your effort. The article has been written by a whole range of people working in this field. We made a call on our newsletter to involve as many people as possible to get an excellent article that is not just based on the opinion of one researcher, but rather by the community. Unfortunately, it seems quite some people have used simply bits and piece from their publications. Which of course is not OK. I would really appreciate if you could keep the draft, so that we could work on it. I will try to make sure that people know that they are not allowed to copy and paste. Regarding the FrontierSin article I know the authors and I can ask them to upload the right copyright statement, if you could give me a pointer where and how to do it.
Thank you again for your help here. I think we can make a really strong article, when we get rid of all the copyright issues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SirJamesHunt (talk • contribs) 16:38, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- @SirJamesHunt: that sounds very promising. The framework of the article is still there at Draft:Soft robotics, and I left all the references in place to make reconstruction easier. The way to make a copyright release is described at WP:Donating copyright materials. The actual copyright owner has to make the release, and needs to understand that Wikipedia's CC-BY-SA license allows readers to copy, modify and re-use material for any purpose including commercial, so that restrictions like "Wikipedia only", "Education only" or "No derivatives" are not acceptable.
- The Frontiersin paper is already released under a compatible license, but requires a {{Cc-notice}} template to provide attribution. I had supposed that one such notice at the end of the article was sufficient, but Fuhghettaboutit says above that that is not enough. We need a variant saying "This paragraph incorporates text from this source", which would also cover the issues described in WP:Plagiarism. I will ask advice about how to do that. JohnCD (talk) 11:06, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
Thank you JohnCD (talk). I wait then for your feedback. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SirJamesHunt (talk • contribs) 19:58, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- To clarify, what I was talking about is the specific attribution requirements under the licenses. CC licenses need to provide "appropriate credit", which, as stated at the license I just linked, would require us the mind this language:
"If supplied, you must provide the name of the creator and attribution parties, a copyright notice, a license notice, a disclaimer notice, and a link to the material."
The cc template provides no facility to credit "the name of the creator". Meanwhile, the external site says "this is an open-access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). The use, distribution or reproduction in other forums is permitted, provided the original author(s) or licensor are credited and that the original publication in this journal is cited, in accordance with accepted academic practice."
So, to be concrete, what I was saying was that to comply with copyright, just the CC-notice template would not be sufficient. The credit would need to say something, at the least, like:
That, in my opinion, is required to comply with the plain and express terms of the CC license's appropriate credit requirement I quote above. This article incorporates text available under the CC BY 1.0 license. and is authored by Cecilia Laschi and Matteo Cianchetti. (Emphasis added in underline.)
Now, as to citing each paragraph, that is also required, but is a matter of avoiding plagiarism, and I don't think we need any CC template for each paragraph, but rather to just follow Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Free and copyrighted sources and its following section of examples. They require that any word-for-word copied text – whether under a free license or from 1,000 BCE and in the public domain – be given in-text attribution, be in quotation marks, and have an inline citation.
Of course, this would also fulfill the stated requirement listed at the external cite of providing "that the original publication in this journal is cited, in accordance with accepted academic practice".
- To clarify, what I was talking about is the specific attribution requirements under the licenses. CC licenses need to provide "appropriate credit", which, as stated at the license I just linked, would require us the mind this language:
Sorry to delve into such layers of complication, but I believe the authors go beyond the bounds of the CC license they have released their material under, by purporting to require this additional form of credit as to the copyright (if they could require this, then my model example above for a vaid CC notice would still not be enough). However, it is a happy confluence of events, that to comply with our existing plagiarism avoidance requirements, we would also be satisfying this "overreach" by them. I hope this is clear; we all know how complicated this stuff can be, and as a lawyer (though not one that specializes in intellectual property law), I am used to parsing complicated statutes and the like.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:45, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
Thank you JohnCD (talk) and Fuhghettaboutit (talk) for your detailed help. This is very much appreciated. Sorry to ask again, I just wanted to make sure that I understood it correctly. We have to add the line
This article incorporates text available under the CC BY 1.0 license. and is authored by Cecilia Laschi and Matteo Cianchetti
if we use exact copies of the text from this publication and, in addition, we have to highlight in every paragraph were we used the same text clearly highlighted as citations (italic for example and in quotation marks). Since, as it seems that complete full paragraphs have been copied, I think it might be better to rewrite these paragraphs in our own words. However, I read on Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Free and copyrighted sources that a summary is potentially problem as well. How should we address that? Is it enough to cite the paper or do we have to use the
This article incorporates text available under the CC BY 1.0 license. and is authored by Cecilia Laschi and Matteo Cianchetti
at the end of the article or is it even still required to have a notice at every single paragraph? My understanding would be that an inline citation at these paragraphs would be sufficient when we use our own words. Is that correct?
- You have to add that line if you use more extensive quotations from the source than you could justify for a copy under full reservation under non-free content policy and guideline. Summary is only a problem if you follow the source too closely; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing for avoiding this issue. If you do not use extensive quotations from these sources and do not paraphrase too closely, you do not have to use the line; you simply cite your source as you would any other. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:05, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
- @SirJamesHunt: Hey James. Since I was addressing an analysis, and I don't want to leave you reading between the lines (though you did a good job), to summarize my understanding:
- To comply with copyright, if you have word-for word copied or close paraphrasing, and you use a lot of material – beyond what might be allowed under fair use if it was fully copyrighted (if it did not bear a free license) – yes, you would just need to place a single time, in the references section: "{{CC-notice|cc=by|url=http://journal.frontiersin.org/article/10.3389/fbioe.2014.00003/full}} and is authored by Cecilia Laschi and Matteo Cianchetti", or something similar that actually names the authors (note that I used the underline previously only because I was emphasizing what was in my view missing; I did not mean to imply that underline code ("<u>...</u>") should be placed in the article). (By the way, I would not place quotations in italics, unless the original was in italics, and maybe not even then...) If you are just using the text as a source of information and there is no word-for-word copying or close paraphrasing, or there's not much use, avoid plagiarism (see below), with in-text attribution, cite your source and so on, but you do not need any CC notice.
- To avoid plagiarism:
- 2a) Word-for-word quotes need to be attributed in-text "(according to ....); need to be in quotation marks; and need to be clearly credited using an inline citation
- 2b) Material not word-for-word copied, but closely paraphrasing must be attributed in-text, have an inline citation, should still have quotes around distinctive words or phrases and the source must be cited.
- 2c) Material properly paraphrased, not closely and not word-for-word, should just have a citation ([[see Wikipedia:Verifiability, but nothing else above would be needed.

- @Appteco: (I presume you are Appteco - please sign in before editing). The problem was not just the image, the text also was copied from the company's website and report. Even apart from copyright problems, copying the company's own words is not the way to make an acceptable encyclopedia article. See User:JohnCD/Not a noticeboard.
- You should make a draft article at Draft:Emirates Transport, written in your own words, with much less detail. Include only things that a general encyclopedia reader would be interested in, not the story the company wants to tell, and not an endless list of all its operations and subsidiaries. Anyone who wants all that detail can go to the company website. Read WP:Your first article for advice, and include references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" to establish WP:Notability. If you are connected with the company, read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. JohnCD (talk) 23:08, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Invitation
Hello, JohnCD,
The Editing team is asking for your help with VisualEditor. I am contacting you because you posted to a feedback page for VisualEditor. Please tell them what they need to change to make VisualEditor work well for you. The team has a list of top-priority problems, but they also want to hear about small problems. These problems may make editing less fun, take too much of your time, or be as annoying as a paper cut. The Editing team wants to hear about and try to fix these small things, too.

- If you mean an encyclopedia article about you in Wikipedia, the answer is, you can't. You can make another one, but it will be deleted, because Wikipedia articles are only about people who are notable, which means they have been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. Not many people are notable - I'm not, so I will never have an article, and nor are you.
- If you want to write about yourself, you can do that at sites like Facebook, or LinkedIn, or Wikibios, but not here. JohnCD (talk) 14:23, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

Operation Pax Romana
Thanks for following up Calamondin12 (talk · contribs)'s well-justified tag by starting the AfD. I've just deleted the article for being an obvious hoax. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 09:13, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Nick-D: Thanks. I am hesitant about tagging a possible hoax with G3 if it takes an hour or so's research to be sure, but once the evidence is laid out, speedy deletion often becomes the right answer. I have met some things that on the face of it look like a blatant hoax, but turn out to be true. My favourite example: would you believe an annual festival to celebrate the culture of people of mixed Croatian/Maori descent? Check out Tarara Day. JohnCD (talk) 21:59, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Unreviewed Article
Hello there. I was just wondering if you could just spend a moment and review this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ali_Caszadeh and possibly remove the "tag" from the top of the page if it doesn't need any cleanup. Thank you in advance. SlimSlim (talk) 13:50, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
- @SlimSlim: be patient, it does not need an admin to review a new article, and you do not have to ask for it to be reviewed. The reviewers are working their way through Category:All unreviewed new articles, which tells them what needs doing, and your article will be reviewed in its turn. The article Normani Kordei has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Wgolf (talk) 17:41, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
Grill'd
Hi,
I've got no connection to Grill'd, but I think it was an error to delete the page.
Sure, the page could be toned down a little (i'd delete the "Grill'd focuses on made to order customer service with high quality, locally sourced ingredients. Products are often noted to be of gourmet quality with close attention to customer satisfaction. Grill'd enjoys a high proportion of brand loyalty." comments), but most of the information was simple statements of fact.
In Australia, Grill'd is the biggest new food chain I can remember in quite a while, so it seems at least worthy of a wikipedia page.
Plus they make good burgers, which in Australia is quite unusual!
Anyway, I think it was a mistake to delete the article rather than just adjust the text to be more neutral (which I would be happy to do).
Again, I've got nothing to do with them, I've just eaten there a few times in the last year at three different shops they've opened around Perth (which again, I think says they have some importance because when you're 2000km away from the next nearest big city you don't get a lot of new things opening!). — Preceding unsigned comment added by PeterNLewis (talk • contribs) 04:30, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- @PeterNLewis: The article that I deleted in 2011 was hopelessly promotional, but since then another has been created using a curly apostrophe ’ instead of a straight one '. I have just moved it to Grill'd because the straight apostrophe is preferred, see MOS:PUNCT.
- So there is an article, but it's a pretty poor one and might well be challenged again. If you are interested you could certainly improve it by (a) toning down the promotional fluff introduced by an SPA in December, and (b) adding some independent references like reviews to show notability; all it has now is its own website and Facebook. JohnCD (talk) 10:47, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for that. I have made some edits to the page, toned down some of the promotion aspects and added some growth information with references.
Earl of Buckland
Hello, I think there has been some misunderstanding with the comments below.
The Johnnie Johnson mentioned in the Earl of Buckland article isnt the same Johnnie Johnson who is a fighter ace of WW2 Johnnie Johnson - fighter ace lived in Leistershire whilst the Johnnie Johnson as in Earl of Buckland comes from Devon. Johnnie Johnson -Earl of Buckland also died some 10 years later than Johnnie Johnson fighter ace. They are not the same person. Johnnie Johnson -Earl of Buckland has also never wrote any books whereas the Johnnie Johnson fighter ace has according to your comments.
I have many reference sources that should have been added at the time which may have avoided the conclusions reached that was an error on my part for not posting them.
If Tinkertailorsoilderspy comes back with that nonsense, I shall block him. He has two IPs, 193.173.115.7 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) and 193.173.115.8 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), who are both up to a final warning for constantly re-adding it; I guess that's why he has made himself an account. He is probably Buckbuster (talk) who wrote an article Earl of Buckland last year claiming that the WWII fighter ace Johnnie Johnson was made Earl of Buckland in 1947 (funny, I have a 1964 book by him which says nothing about that) and this Robin Charles Johnson was his grandson and so the third Earl of Buckland. It's not clear how his title is supposed to have changed to Kent. There are some real nut-cases out there. JohnCD (talk) 22:08, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
— Preceding unsigned comment added by Buckbuster (talk • contribs)
- @Buckbuster: that's odd, because your deleted article said "The Earl of Buckland is a title... created in 1947 for the Royal Air Force flying ace Air-vice marshal James Johnson", and his blog says the same. A wise Earl should know who his grandfather was.
- It doesn't matter, anyway, because Wikipedia has a WP:Verifiability policy, and it is rather easy to check that there is no Earldom of Buckland, nor is there any current Earldom of Kent, the other title people have been trying to confer on Mr R. C. Johnson. Please stop wasting our time. JohnCD (talk) 18:01, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- By the way, don't bother faking a London Gazette page for the earldom - that has been tried before (see here) and didn't work, though it was good for a laugh. JohnCD (talk) 19:29, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for deleting some of my pages, but I have a question. Why can't I delete my own pages? --- :D Derry Adama (talk) 15:09, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

Your commentary was VERY helpful!! I totally get what you're saying. Let me take another crack at it. There are MANY articles talking about SHINE, obviously where we will build is most prevalent. - @TheRedPenOfDoom: it was a normal PROD deletion, so restored automatically on request. I advised the requester that it needed better referencing. In fact, references to his books and papers are easy enough to find, to pass the BLP-prod standard. I doubt whether he is notable, but that's another matter. JohnCD (talk) 09:40, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

The administrator who deleted the later version after closing WP:Articles for deletion/Grace Sai was user Davewild (talk). You should have discussed it with him before going to DRV; but I have now notified him anyway.

I take it you moved it because what was said on the talk page. It is, however, not as simple as he made it look on the talk page (as I've pointed out there). Did you try to verify what was said yourself? I've moved it back pending a possible RM, though it would have been better that this would have followed an RM in the first place, giving other editors time to chime in and look into the merit of the suggestion. --JorisvS (talk) 07:56, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
- @JorisvS: (sigh). I moved it in response to a request by Zoupan to delete Torlak dialect to make way for the move. It seemed a reasonable request, though my heart sank a bit when I saw how many previous titles it had been moved through. I agree with an RM if that will establish a name that will stick. Is there no naming standard for dialects? JohnCD (talk) 18:40, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
- Not really, "XXX + dialect" or "XXX + higher-level name" (e.g. Arabic, Chinese, or even English), and occasionally even "XXX". However, as for what that XXX should be, no. --JorisvS (talk) 18:59, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
- It was as simple as I presented it to be, it in fact JorisvS who made a faulty conclusion. See Talk:Torlakian_dialect#Name. JohnCD made a perfectly reasonable move.--Zoupan 21:44, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
- Well, as it is disputed, please start a WP:Requested move on the talk page and let's see if we can get an agreement that will stick. JohnCD (talk) 21:46, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

- @Valoem: Done for Nuru (massage) to User:Valoem/Nuru (massage). It was deleted after WP:Articles for deletion/Nuru (massage), so please do not return it to the mainspace without agreement from the closing admin, J04n (talk), or failing that WP:Deletion review. It's worth reading the history: the article seems to have started as a general description of a massage technique, but degenerated into an edit-war with people trying to make it about one particular brand of the special seaweed gloop you have to coat yourself with.
- The 2010 versions were pure advertising for the special gloop, from obvious COI usernames. Nothing useful to restore, but the second was a copy of this, which will give you the idea. JohnCD (talk) 22:07, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
- Quick question, I think it is actually counter-intuitive to have these two pages locked Involuntary celibacy and Andreas Lubitz, no form of disruptive behavior occurred there, in fact there is a major RfC going on for two months somehow. I am not the type of editor who would just restore without permission. I feel that locking content pages discourages potential growth of both articles. What do you think? - I think protection in those cases is quite reasonable. Both are contentious issues where consensus to delete or redirect has been reached after several AfD and/or DRV. That means that new articles should not be unilaterally created without permission from the closing admin or from DRV: if such a discussion does give permission, any admin can unprotect the titles. Nothing stops you or anyone creating a draft to submit, if there is new material that might affect the outcome, but if it's just a case of disagreeing with the consensus, it may be better to drop the stick. - Ok, wanted to see your opinion can you also userfy Tantra massage plus talk page or Tantric massage (if it is just a redirect disregard).
- Done to User:Valoem/Tantra massage. The other was simply a redirect. Requests to userfy are really best directed to the deleting admin, in this case Trialsanderrors (talk) who closed WP:Articles for deletion/Tantra massage, but he is not currently very active. Do not restore to the mainspace without agreement from him, or failing that WP:Deletion review. JohnCD (talk) 09:38, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
