Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (1991–99) Many chechen separatists have now moved to fight for the Caucasus Emirate (see below), but to what extent islamism has replaced chechen nationalism is unclear [4], particularly since it is difficult for journalists to gain access to the region [5]

- Movement: Circassian nationalism; Circassian Congress; Circassian Youth Initiative; Adyge Djegi
- Proposed state: Circassia, including all regions historically included in Circassia and/or inhabited by Circassians (note: this includes Adygea as well as north Kabardino-Balkaria, north Karachay–Cherkessia, south-east Krasnodar Krai, and south Stavropol Krai). Also there are calls for the reinstatement of the Cherkess autonomous oblast [10]
