Park Ji-hoon (born May 29, 1999), is a South Korean singer, rapper and former child actor. He is best known for appearing in the survival show Produce 101, gaining the nickname "Wink Boy" prior to the beginning of the show. He is now set to debut with the other 10 Wanna One members.[1]
Career
2007–2017: Beginnings
Park Ji-hoon debuted as a child actor, participating in musicals Peter Pan (2007–2009) and Radio Star (2010), television dramas The King and I (2007–2008), Kimchi Cheese Smile (2007–2008), and more.[2] However, Ji-hoon had previously appeared in SS501's reality show SS501 SOS (2006) prior to his official debut.[3] During his childhood, he continued to be active in musical theatre, television broadcasts and film, as well as working as an advertisement model.[4]
Less active in the entertainment industry in his teen years, Ji-hoon began training to become an idol singer under SM Entertainment and Fantagio, before transferring to his current agency, Maroo Entertainment.[5]
2017–present: Produce 101
In 2017, Ji-hoon participated in the second season of Produce 101. He experienced a sudden rise in popularity after going viral as "wink boy (ko: 윙크남)" after the introductory "It's Me (Pick Me)" stage on M! Countdown before the show had even started.[6] Consequently, Ji-hoon's participation in the survival show received extensive media attention, to the extent that his self-made aegyo catchphrase "save you in my heart (ko: 내 마음 속에 저장)" became famous on social media and various broadcast platforms, leading to companies, such as Banila Co., Coca-Cola, Banana Milk, Melon and KT Corporation, using the phrase for marketing purposes.[7] Furthermore, Ji-hoon started receiving offers from companies to become their advertisement model while the show was still being aired as everything either worn or used by him became sold-out.[8][9] It was later revealed that Ji-hoon had signed an exclusive contract with Maroo Entertainment before the show had even started.[10][11]
Having finished second in the survival show, he is set to debut in Wanna One (ko: 워너원) with 10 other members.[12]
