== Your recent edits ==

Hi,

I noticed you've done a lot of recent edits on a few of the Cork pages. You might want to add references to the edits, instead of just dropping a direct link into the text. You can usually [[Wikipedia:Tutorial/Citing_sources#RefToolbar|add a link very easily]] by selecting the "Cite" toolbar in the edit window, clicking on "Templates" and selecting one.

I would also recommend that you don't directly copy and paste from other pages (because it's not necessary, link instead!) or websites (because it's plagiarism). Otherwise, don't be surprised if people revert your edits.

Finally, if you want to do a large edit in more than one go, [[Help:My sandbox|why not use your sandbox]]? It's an area of wikipedia (there's a link on the top-right of your screen) that you can use to work on drafts of your edits. Other people won't delete anything you put there, so you can get it right before dropping it in the article. Otherwise, if you leave an edit half-finished, it will be reverted.

Best of luck,

Finally. When responding to someone, put your comments below theirs. Not in the middle. Also, there's no reason to remove old comments. It makes it hard to follow if only one-side of a conversation is visible. Cheers. Guliolopez (talk) 12:38, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Adding references

Hello. Please note that all the links you add to articles as sources must be placed inside <ref></ref> tags so that they are properly formatted. Take a moment to read our introduction to referencing and our page on inline citations. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Donnybrook, County Cork requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Frankfield,Cork, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. - MrX 12:46, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

August 2017

Hiya. Couple of quick things.

In this series of edits to the Shandon article, you added an uncited statement that "Shandon Street" is the "main street of Cork's northside". Can you provide a supporting reference for this? Also, I'm not what was intended with the gallery entry, but Wikipedia's gallery and image syntax doesn't support the inclusion of externally hosted images.

In this series of edits to the Douglas article, you removed cited text that had been subject to consensus discussion on the talk page. Can you add a note to the talk page to explain your thoughts on why it shouldn't be included? In the meantime, please take a quick glance at the project's related policies. Including IDONTLIKEIT and IDIDNTHEARTHAT.

If there's anything I can do to help (with syntax, inclusion criteria or project norms), please do feel free to drop me a note.

Cheers. Guliolopez (talk) 22:54, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya. Please don't remove cited content or engage in edit-warring. It is not in keeping with project norms to ignore consensus discussions (at least 3 other contributors have advocated a merge of the Donnybrook content to the Douglas article), to ignore requests for engagement (myself and several others have left notes on your talkpage and article talkpages which have not been responded to), and to make changes unilaterally (in conflict with those contributions from others). Please do read WP:EDITWAR, and - as above - please drop a note on my talkpage, the article talkpage, or your own talkpage here. And we can try and address whatever concern it is that you have with that content and approach. Guliolopez (talk) 08:30, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Donnybrook

Hi - thanks for your edit to Donnybrook. I've amended it slightly so the entry points to an article in which Donnybrook is mentioned (MOS:DAB). Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 05:13, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Advisory

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Douglas, County Cork. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.
Continued removal of cited content (against the consensus established on the article talk page and without consideration to the repeated requests for engagement) is against project norms. Please try to engage. Or the community will likely escalate to a block or other sanction. Thanks. Guliolopez (talk) 10:17, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(Do not delete my pages i am trying to improve them when i have time)don't link pages — Preceding unsigned comment added by JackW436 (talkcontribs)
Hi. Thanks for responding. After 10+ requests for an engagement, it's nice to get a response. However short.
As to your note (to "give you a chance to improve them"), while you'd been afforded upwards of one-month to make the necessary improvements, I'm sure the community will be happy to allow you a little more time. However, I would recommend that you make these improvements in a sandbox first. I have created a sandbox for you. Here User:JackW436/sandbox/Donnybrook. I would recommend using this to bring the content up to the minimum standards expected by the project. I will help if needed. And, if appropriate, will also help move it to the main article namespace.
In the meantime I would however remind you of the guidance provided by myself, FlyingAce, Bennv3771, and other editors on references. Namely that one of the minimum standards expected of the project is that we use references. Especially for otherwise apparently subjective content. Like the statement that Donnybrook is home to "Many of Corks Finest Homes". Which will need to be cited. As otherwise it just reads like someone's opinion. With no explanation on whose opinion that is.
I would also recommend that you read the manual of style. As the use of capitals (for every single word in a sentence) is not in keeping with the norms for the project. Or English for that matter.
And finally I would remind you about the guidelines on article ownership. Namely that there is no article ownership. So your repeated description of the project's content as "my pages" is not accurate. And highlights a gap in understanding of the core project principles.
Thanks. Guliolopez (talk) 14:14, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(Can you Put the Donnybrook, Cork article by Itself)— Preceding unsigned comment added by JackW436 (talkcontribs)

No. There is consensus among at least three other editors that Donnybrook doesn't meet the notability requirements expected (for places without legal recognition) in terms of coverage, content, etc. The guideline specifically notes that, in this case, the "information on the informal place should be included in the more general article on the legally recognized populated place or administrative subdivision that contains it". Which is exactly what has been done. Guliolopez (talk) 22:24, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Douglas Village Shopping Centre requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

Donnybrook (2)

I note the other material on this page regarding your edits and the notice immediately above this section. However, in another activity, you edited Donnybrook, a disambiguation page. I reverted the edit and told you in the edit summary and at the "Donnybrook" section above that a disambiguation page entry must refer to an article in which the term appears. The layout of disambiguation pages is set out here Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Disambiguation pages and this particular rule is here MOS:DABMENTION. You made 5 edits to Donnybrook the eventual effect of which was, again, to create a Wikipedia:Red link entry (with a punctuation error in it). I have reverted your 5 edits. Hi. I have to ask. Why do you capitalise every word in every sentence? Like this? Guliolopez (talk) 14:03, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's that type of response that makes me wonder if I'm witnessing contributions that are motivated by (a) trolling, (b) compulsive inaccuracy, or (c) other incompatible drivers. However, please (partly for laughs, and partly for nostalgia of that last shred of good-faith) do tell:- when were you told that you should capitalise all words? Was it in any of these notes of mine,[1][2][3][4][5] or Cmr08's,[6][7][8] or any of the notes (stating the opposite of what you suggest) on this talkpage? Blanchardstown

Since you added the statistics and claims in the "Demographics" section, surely you can just tell us where they came from? We can easily help format them as references. The claims are so specific that you must have read them somewhere? Just point us to where, and we'll see if it's an WP:RS that can be included.

I don't know what you were trying to do with the malformed link to a wikipedia page, so I removed that. You can't use wikpedia as a reference - not that what you tried to link was relevant anyway, Blanchardstown isn't mentioned at all there, never mind the comparisons you made in the article. Please read WP:RS (that's a link - just click on it.) Thanks. -- Begoon 09:14, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Irish section or on white flight RTE — Preceding unsigned comment added by JackW436 (talkcontribs) 09:25, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes - I know what you tried to link. Read what I said again. I think I'm reaching the same conclusions as above - you either don't have the competence to edit here, or you're deliberately making no attempt. -- Begoon 09:34, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If nobody minds, I'm just going to step in here, because I think I know where the mistake lies. That White flight section mentions Dublin 15, which is Fingal, but if you actually just search "Dublin 15", for some reason, Google provides a map of Blanchardstown Shopping Centre! I think this editor simply saw that and made an assumption.
However, you're right in stating that at no point does that source/article state that it is the least ethnically white place in Ireland, it simply makes an example of an area experiencing a rapid influx of foreign migrants.
Hopefully this helps! Wasechun tashunkaHOWLTRACK 09:46, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It helps me understand why it was linked, thanks for that. It doesn't lessen the frustrating communication issues much though. If we cannot communicate we cannot function. Obviously it still doesn't support the content, and reading through the whole history here I do see some worrying signs that there's something of an ongoing issue which isn't improving. This kind of thing wastes a lot of volunteer time.
JackW436, can you please answer my initial questions:
(a) Where did you get the statistics (percentages) you added - please link to the source for that.
(b) Where does the statement you added: Blanchardstown has one of the highest percentage of Foreigners in the Country and the Lowest percentage of White Irish come from?
--(If you wrote that statement solely based on that latter, linked section, at White flight, please also read WP:RS, WP:OR and WP:SYNTH, and tell me if you then understand why that's not ok.)--
Thanks. -- Begoon 10:26, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have collected this data on airo (All-Island Research Observatory) - http://airo.maynoothuniversity.ie/external-content/fingal - and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzNy0F4pwJ8 - — Preceding unsigned comment added by JackW436 (talkcontribs) 12:13, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, for the 'airo' stuff that at least tells us where you got the numbers. Is the only way to do that on that site to pull up each "ethnic/cultural" group population individually for each of the 8 Blanchardstown divisions, and then manually add them together and derive percentages from those totals, or is there a way to get a table showing all the figures at once? Even if manually is the only way it's probably a simple enough calculation that we could use that as a source without it being WP:OR -- Begoon 12:49, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going offline for today - I'll check back here tomorrow. I'd still like to know how you arrived at "Blanchardstown has one of the highest percentage of Foreigners in the Country and the Lowest percentage of White Irish". I didn't watch the whole video but if that's just a quote from a reporter on a YouTube video of a TV news report, I think we'd probably need something better and more reliable before we decided whether such a statement was WP:DUE or not. -- Begoon 13:06, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. While we are waiting for your responses, the material has been removed from the article, per consensus at Talk:Blanchardstown#Demographics section. Take as much time as you need with your clarifications - there is no WP:DEADLINE. If you can describe the calculations you did on the numbers from the 'airo' site, I'll see if I can replicate your results. If you need any other help, just ask. Thanks. -- Begoon 09:57, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Data which I have collected was from http://census.cso.ie/sapmap/, http://airo.maynoothuniversity.ie/external-content/fingal in which I calculated the 8 EDs Together

Copyvio (repeat advisory)

Hi. This has been raised multiple times previously (by myself and other editors). So this should not be news. But you cannot copy-and-paste content you find on other websites, and include it in articles on this project. As if it were your own work. Specifically, the content added in this edit was a near direct copy-and-paste from the source. As attested by the available copyvio tools. In fact, about the only thing you changed was "Douglas" to "Grange" (a change which I find interesting given the ongoing discussion on the associated talkpage). Persistent violators of copyright norms will be blocked from editing. Guliolopez (talk) 16:28, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean? A reference is not added to provide attribution - to authors who write source materials. (IE: It is not a "credit"). A reference is added to provide verifiability - to editors who verify source materials (IE: It is a "check").
You have been asked previously to read the WP:COPYVIO and WP:CLOP guidelines. If you have not read then, then I would encourage you to do so. If you have not understood them, then I would encourage you to ask questions. If you have read and understood them, but have decided to ignore them, then I would recommend you consider your reasons for contributing to the project.

Shandon street, and others

Hi JackW,

Could you please refrain from repeatedly citing figures as "Catholic" vs. "Non-Catholic"? It comes across as very WP:POV-pushing, especially when dealing with areas where there are big variations in populations of other religions (eg. Anglican vs. Muslim vs. Hindu, etc.).

Additionally, there's a similar issue with repeatedly trying to insist that Shandon Street is full of "Ethnic minority shops". There may be a few, but either way, it's not a particularly notable aspect of the area. It's certainly not an indication of the quality of the district.

Thanks, Wasechun tashunkaHOWLTRACK 17:44, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • On the Census 2016 Government data it states Catholics and Non Catholic,Which is where I get my information from. You Must Understand that in the Republic of Ireland it is a Catholic Country Dominated By Catholics, whether you like it or not
While at an Electoral Division or Small-area legend it does group together Non-Catholic religious denominations, it still gives figures for "No religion" and "not stated", so by grouping them together you're misrepresenting the data you cited!
Also, regarding the republic being a "Catholic Country", I'm afraid that status was officially revoked in 1973 by the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution of Ireland, so while there may be a rapidly decreasing Catholic majority in census figures, the country is officially secular. Either way, it makes no difference to me, but this encyclopedia has to be encyclopedic! Wasechun tashunkaHOWLTRACK 18:31, 9 September 2017 (UTC)( So cringy)[reply]
  • I am afraid that Catholics will always be the official religion of The Republic of Ireland and the Majority ,You may be overestimating on your report it dropped only 6%, Wikipedia is Neutral on Religious Background and hate is not tolerated especially with the History of Anti-Irish Catholic semintism
Regarding the majority, while Catholicism is still by far the most popular religion, it has dropped by an astounding number in a very short period of time, and the rate of drop is increasing each census year. 6% is a huge number, that's over 1 in 17 people! Regardless, the number of Catholics isn't the point, just because a religion is in the majority does not make it the official religion. The Republic of Ireland is a secular country - this was (incorrectly) put forward in the original Constitution, and corrected by law in 1973. The government is prevented from discriminating between Catholics, non-Catholics and atheists, and you shouldn't in your edits either. Wasechun tashunkaHOWLTRACK 19:25, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
