Apparently someone went and deleted the Dark Council article. Do you have any idea what happened? I can’t find anything in the deletion log, and of course the deleting Admin couldn’t be bothered to inform me, nor did the one who originally submitted it for AFD (I assume it wasn’t deleted outright), as is considered civil. I must say I’m p*ssed off to no end, as a lot of work went into that article. Not only that, but apparently the Cheeseweb and Campaigns of Lotr articles were removed too, amongst others. I can’t see any real reason for this.

Welcome!

Hi, Grimhelm, Welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page.

Additional tips

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

You can help improve the articles listed below! This list updates frequently, so check back here for more tasks to try. (See Wikipedia:Maintenance or the Task Center for further information.)

Help counter systemic bias by creating new articles on important women.

Help improve popular pages, especially those of low quality.

Happy Wiki-ing.

Sonic vs mario

With all due respect, Sonic vs mario strikes me as a candidate for speedy deletion more than one for clean-up. As near as I can tell, it's... pretty crufty. Tom Lillis 22:30, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Irish people peer review?

The additions and editions made on this page even within recent weeks - especily photos - has vastly improved it, to the better I think. Would you support it being submitted for a peer review, and help tidy it up/add some more? Fergananim 14:42, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

Please remember to use Edit summaries in the future. Your shuffle around the Gallowglasses articles got me a bit confused for a while. Thank you! -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 21:37, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I saw your querry on Gmaxwell's talkpage. Since the image is a copyrighted logo it's only usable on Wikipedia under a fair use claim. However Wikipedia policy does not allow fair use images to be used outside of articles (see Wikipedia:Fair use#Fair use policy for details). So yeah, you are not supposed to put such unfree images on your userpage, and any unfree image that are not actualy used to ilustrate an actual article are marked for deletion as a matter of policy (see Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#I5). Hope that answers your questions. --Sherool (talk) 18:05, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Worldwide Campaigns

My bad. I When originally wrote it, the text that was originally there placed me under the impression that the LOTR one was somehow UK specific, and that only Fantasy and 40K had received campaigns. However, a little further reading cleared that up, but I forgot to change the intro. Consider this my apologies. -- Saberwyn 21:28, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eye of Terror

I'm inclined to disagree with the move of Eye of Terror to Eye of Terror Online Campaign for two reasons.

The first is that the article focuses on both the fictional location, and the campaign itself. I would support the splitting out of the campaign section, however, at this time, I don't think there's enough content to justify an individual article.

The second is my personal disagreement to use the term "Online Campaign". To me, this seems to neglect two things. First is that while "Online Campaign" tells us the method of play, use of "Worldwide Campaign" (my personal preference) or "Global Campaign" (the only reference I can find in the most recent White D that doesn't stink of 'northern hemisphere-ism') indicates the scale of the event, which to me is more important.

Would you be adverse to a move back to "Eye of Terror", keeping "EoT Online Campaign" as a redirect? Please reply on my talk page. -- Saberwyn 10:55, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved Eye of Terror back, with "Online Campaign" and "Worldwide Campaign" as redirects. There are instructions to split the player-related sections out to "Eye of Terror Worldwide Campaign" (as this was how GW referred to it) if they grow sufficiently.
Similar instructions have been placed at Medusa V, instead with instructions to split out to "The Fall of Medusa V" (as the title of the campaign), and to redirect all permeations of Online/Worldwide Campaign to this new article.
I don't know what to do with Storm of Chaos or War of the Ring, as I don't know how they were referred to. I'll leave those up to you and your colleagues.
Finally, I realise I forgot to make my second point for why I prefer Worldwide to Online, so I may as well make it now: Everything from Dark Shadows back to Ichar IV was conducted by mail, so Online doesn't encompass these. -- Saberwyn 08:20, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Charles Carroll of Carrollton

Hi, I removed him again as I couldn't see anything on his article or Catholic Encyclopedia entry that said anything about him being Irish. Arniep 11:23, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it says his grandfather came to America from England to escape Catholic persecution. He could have been of Irish ancestry but I think it's a bit too weak of a link to use as an example on the page. Arniep 11:29, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good job, maybe you could add that to the article? Arniep 11:38, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, it seems a close enough connection so it should be OK. Arniep 11:44, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Miniature wargames

Hello Grimhelm! Nice work on the miniature wargaming site. Keep up the effort. Scott Mingus 20:51, 27 May 2006 (UTC) Author of 5 scenario books for American Civil War gaming.[reply]

Capitals in headings

Grimhelm, Unless the heading of a section is a proper noun, we typically only capitalize the first word (for example, Islamic philosophy rather than Islamic Philosophy. The White Counsil

I don't see why you had to remove that stuff from the White Counsil-article. The White Counsil is well-known because of the work laid into creating a new fantasy world and setting, and it was not my intentions to make a section for every sub-forum. But that sub-forum especially is well-known, and something that make the White Counsil more famous.--Ariakas 09:44, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism of history of science

Yes, vandalism. Can you please, before you delete major portions of an (almost featured) article, put some comments you have on its talk page? -- Cugel 22:01, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Julian

I tought we had agreed upon putting the part about agape-based Christian charity in a footnote, but it keeps on popping up, and is growing bigger and bigger. Should I consider this a way to tell me you will not abide to our agreement?--Panarjedde 17:49, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hubert Schiffer

Thanks. I think I probably found the Hubert Schiffer page by pressing "Random article" button to find something to work on. It's interesting because it deals with the effects of the American atomic bomb blast on Hiroshima. I found a source that, although extremely biased, cited some of Hershey's book, an eyewitness account of the blast. I think this article has possibilities.

This is a good site. I've also found a few other things to work on. We don't seem to have an article on the Japanese campaign in Borneo, for instance. Rosejpalmer 22:22, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unwanted pages

Hello, would you take a look at the Lee Crompton page? To me it just looks like somebody after free publicity. Can pages like this be deleted? Rosejpalmer 01:34, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. It looks as if somebody decided to hold a vote on it. I've investigated and made some comments that should help people to make their minds up. Rosejpalmer 18:43, 7 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the Military history WikiProject!

Re: Google Hits

A search for "The White Counsil" returns 42 unique hits, 107 repeated (Google reports 1,070 and 1,680). Usually, a topic has ten times the number of Google hits to belong to Wikipedia. Hope it clarifies the matter. -- ReyBrujo 16:42, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seige tower

Grimhelm asked: Do you have any more information on the image you added to the Siege Tower article: Image:Grose-Francis-Pavisors-and-Moveable-Tower-Assaulting-Castle-1812.jpg? ... any more information on the date/period or the siege it is in? Thanks. --Grimhelm 17:16, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately not. Francis Grove was an alcoholic and was hard up for money so he he produced the whole series of engravings about British military history. If you seach the Fine Rare Prints website for "Francis Grose" you should find many more from his book “Military Antiquities Respecting a History of The English Army from Conquest to the Present Time”. Thanks!

Hey, thanks for helping out!

That's possibly the major gripe with the 'welcome' I received, just a load of people talking in a language I don't know (forumcruft really isn't a word, how am I supposed to rectify it?), leaving me comments that I can't fix without more information - only yours was actually constructive.

You may know me as WitchKingofMordor from One-Ring btw, though I'm not particularly active anymore... ChrisWilliams1000 22:45, 23 October 2006 (UTC) (whatever UTC means?...)[reply]

perhaps this topic interests you

Caspian expeditions of the Rus' needs some attention from somebody familiar with the region, perhaps the article name can be changed to Southern expeditions of the Rus', as there are some problems with what is included with this title and there is no article on the Rus' siege of Constantinople for example. So if you are interested, just go along, two competent authors are already working on the topic, but they can not agree on some issues. Wandalstouring 23:23, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why don't you list the earlier sieges of Constantinople (by Arabs) in the List of sieges? If there were other sieges during the period in question, they should be enumerated as well. --Ghirla -трёп- 17:36, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Updated DYK query On 31 October, 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Rus'-Byzantine War (860), which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.
