Coal plant damage

Any news on how the coal plant was damaged? Nowa (talk) 00:45, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There may be a Japanese language source for this somewhere, but the NHK TV Bilingual News said that fires broke out at the plant immediately following the quake, forcing it to shut down. I wasn't able to find a written source that could be easily translated or that was already in English. Mccunicano (talk) 02:11, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Number of deaths

Resolved

Real number of deaths is 9.

"Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga has apologized for mistakenly overstating the number of people who died in Thursday's earthquake in Hokkaido.

Suga told a news conference on Friday morning that the death toll had reached 16, but revised the figure downward to 9 in the afternoon.

Suga explained that officials included 7 people who were found with no vital signs into the fatalities total." https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20180907_37/ 85.76.22.135 (talk) 12:20, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the update. The article has been updated to account for the revision. Mccunicano (talk) 14:13, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

About that rail transport

What about the Seikan Tunnel? Is it not used for all those foodstuffs moving to the mainland? Shenme (talk) 01:52, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

While the rail system in Hokkaido while was closed down, all traffic through the tunnel was stopped since north of Shin-Aomori Station the track is considered part of the JR Hokkaido system. Rail service has resumed since.Mccunicano (talk) 03:50, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
