Title Capitalization

We may want to consider moving the title to "JPEGMafia," however inelegant. I know the MoS specifies (somewhere—I can't locate it presently) that titles should only be all caps when referring to an acronym (see the countless attempts to move MF Doom to "MF DOOM"). JPEGMAFIA is more complicated, admittedly, as the JPEG portion is an acronym. Is it actually in accordance with the MoS to fully capitalize the non-acronym portion of a name formed from an original acronym? anthologetes ^{(talk • contribs)} 17:36, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

The JPEG part of his name isn't an acronym. It's Jay-Peg-Mafia not Joint Photographic Experts Group-Mafia, so if we wanna be "correct" his name would be spelled as "Jpegmafia" Crizpie (talk) 23:54, 29 November 2019 (UTC)

Jpegmafia → JPEGMafia – The current title of this article is a made up name, since his name is never given as Jpegmafia, and Jpeg is like JPEG. What is better, JPEGMafia or JPEGMAFIA? I think JPEGMafia at least adhered to MOS:CAMELCASE, but also, it's a made up form too. JPEGMAFIA is what he is called in reliable sources, but there's no encyclopedia reason to capitalize MAFIA. • Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Capital letters#Trademarks is clear and unambiguous on this. "For trademarks, editors should choose among styles already in common use (not invent new ones) and, among those, use the style that most closely resembles standard English text formatting and capitalization rules." (bold mine). Since it is clear that the current capitalization both a) resembles standard English text formatting and capitalization rules and b) is in common use, we should keep it as it. • Support per MOS:TM, MOS:ABBR, and MOS:CAMEL. JPEG is an initialism. Mafia is not. The name as a whole is a run-together two-word trademark, which would be JPEG Mafia if the space had not been removed. Ergo, JPEGMafia. WP simply does not care at all what the "official" logo rendering is (WP:OFFICIALNAME), and RS usage is all over the map (the music press most often apes the trademark, but they do that with everyone, and it is never, ever a rationale on WP to ape them in turn). The only exceptional cases we permit are ones were RS, of all kinds, are almost totally in agreement on a potentially odd-seeming, stylized rendering (thus Deadmau5 but not Ke$ha, and this is obviously a Ke$ha case; see also Client (band) and a zillion other examples).  — AReaderOutThataway ^t/_c 05:54, 22 October 2019 (UTC)

Instagram objection to title

The artist has since posted an Instagram that disagrees with the newly formatted title, prompting multiple editors to want to change this back to all-caps. Should the title fomat be revisited, or does it even matter? AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 21:29, 5 November 2019 (UTC)

Artist preference should not drive Wikipedia formatting. That is why we list the stylized spelling in the lead paragraph, so that users who want to know how to stylize the spelling in their personal usages know how it is stylized. Examples of bands that prefer all caps that on Wikipedia we follow the rules are Gwar, stylized as GWAR, and Awolnation, stylized in all caps show that the editors try to use an even hand when avoiding including band or artist stylization preferences for article titles. If we are not counting the RYM as a reliable source, we shouldn't count the SoundCloud either because it is not his official SoundCloud. The most reliable source we have is his Bandcamp which he runs. On "JOECHILLWORLD" and "THE ROCKWOOD ESCAPE PLAN" the artist name on the page is Devon Hendryx "The Rockwood Escape Plan" meaning he went under the alias. Crizpie (talk) 01:22, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

Probably a temporary name as he later just uses Devon Hendryx for his previous work prior to JPEGMAFIA (blog example:https://ihrtn.net/from-the-root-to-the-fruit-jpegmafia%E2%80%8F/ ) You could try with the more reliable sources listed but I would work that name into the biography section first before adding it to the infobox. Dreamcast Summer Songs release date is wrong

"Generation Y" is JPEGMAFIA's first mixtape. "Dreamcast Summer Songs" was originally titled "Since I Left You II" and released 10 February 2011. Later, he deleted the release and decided to re-release the mixtape as "Dreamcast Summer Songs".
