Citing sources in Biographies of Living People

Hey Abubakar Balarabe. My name is motevets. Thanks for your update to Bunmi Olusona. I just wanted to let you know that when add new facts to Wikipedia, you should always cite your sources, especially if you're editing the biography of a living person. Thanks again for being an editor. Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions. motevets (talk) 23:32, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

Hello, Abubakar Balarabe, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Abdullahi Balarabe Salame, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Honestly, speaking i never know who the person is, we only bear the same sun name, in order to avoid that, I will not edit on the article again, thank you. Thank you very much brother. Abubakar Balarabe (talk) 05:29, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the nice words, I really appreciate it. Since you said its just a coincidence then that is fine. From your edit summaries, I see you you are quite conscious of verifiability, which is very laudable. Kindly register your username to WikiProject Nigeria, to get updates on our activities and if you need any assistance whatsoever don't hesitate to drop a message on the WikiProject talkpage. There are many experienced Nigerian editors following the page.HandsomeBoy (talk) 07:13, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mohammed Danjuma Goje, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page People's Democratic Party. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 07:04, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AfC notification: Draft:Transparent Hands Foundation has a new comment

I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Transparent Hands Foundation. Thanks! Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 12:17, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I will correct it and let you know. Abubakar Balarabe (talk) 12:30, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Please stop changing dates to an incorrect format. MOS:DATE sets out how dates should be displayed on Wikipedia – i.e. "26 May 2008" or "May 26, 2008". Thanks, Number 57 23:13, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You should not change from one format to another unless it is in the wrong format for that country. For example, you should only change from 26 May to May 26 for American and Canadian-related topics as they are the only countries to use that date format as standard. See MOS:DATERET.
Basically I would advise leaving dates alone. Number 57 23:55, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, and keep up the good work removing puffery! Number 57 12:14, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I wanted to let you know that your recent edit(s) to Tunji Oyelana have been removed because you cited the information you added to another Wikipedia article or an external wiki. As discussed at WP:CIRCULAR and WP:SPS, Wikipedia and other wikis should not be used in citations because they are not considered reliable sources. You are welcome to re-add the information using a different reference, perhaps from the article you originally linked to. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. -- Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 19:19, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Personal appeal to participate in the AfroCine Contest

Hello Abubakar Balarabe, trust you have been good. I want to kindly request that you participate in the AfroCine contest which began this month, your participation will greatly improve the diversity of the contest and close key knowledge gaps. It is all about creating at least one article related to African cinema. Can I suggest that you consider Gamu nan Dai or Mansoor (2017 film)? Both Kannywood films won notable awards at different levels so should pass WP:NFILMS. If you start any of them I will assist in improving and expanding their content. Secondly, you need to add your username to Wikipedia:WikiProject_AfroCine/Months_of_African_Cinema#Participants. Thank you so much for your contributions to Wikipedia, it is greatly appreciated.
