Controversies section

Wikipedia manual of style says to avoid Controversies section. The text in this section should be merged into the main narrative. Ashmoo (talk) 10:14, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Wikipedia: Controversies" is not a WP policy or guideline, only an essay expressing 'advice or opinions' by certain contributors. I came to this article looking for a controversies section because I was repelled by Irwin's crudely extrovert and sensationalist approach after viewing a few of his TV programmes. I regret the tragic circumstances of his death. But his admirers have no right to attempt to place him beyond criticism, or to have any criticism buried within the main text of the article. Having a controversies section is fully justified and is not an infringement of current official WP policy. O Murr (talk) 06:19, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps mention that, according to his 2004 Larry King interview, he hoped to become a US citizen.

"KING: Beautiful black snake. Yes. You going to be a U.S. citizen, too? IRWIN: Yes, I hope to. I sincerely hope to."[1]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. L293D ( • ) 13:20, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. I don't think that is important enough to include—seems fairly trivial to me. I would suggest a discussion to determine inclusion. Thanks, NiciVampireHeart 15:47, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: if he tried to become a citizen or was in the process of doing so, that would be a different story. We would sources to substantiate that though. NiciVampireHeart 15:49, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Birth Place (again)

This has been discussed once before: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Steve_Irwin/Archive_2#Birth_place

His birthplace is currently listed as "Essendon", but according to his wife, he was born in Ferntree Gully (https://www.blog.google/inside-google/doodles/steve-irwin-doodle/). If he was born at the Angliss Hospital, it is located in Ferntree Gully.

Please change "Irwin's widow, Terri Raines Irwin" to "Irwin's wife, Terri Raines Irwin" in the caption under Terri Raines's picture in the "Career" section as a mark of respect for both personalities. Bishal Das (talk) 14:58, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is no reason to, as Irwin is dead so she is his widow. How, precisely, does calling her his wife confer more respect than the current, accurate, wording? Britmax (talk) 15:10, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. DannyS712 (talk) 16:38, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Although not indicated in the caption, the photo is from 2002, i.e. before Irwin’s death so she is his wife not his widow at that time. It would be better to include the year in the caption to make this clearer. Kerry (talk) 22:46, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest we just caption it with her name and let the text solve any ambiguity. Britmax (talk) 22:58, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What?

“Irwin was born on his mother's birthday“ What does this mean? When was his Mother born? 2601:483:101:86B5:2467:6275:A55B:B3B0 (talk) 01:11, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Birthday is not the same as birthdate. It means his mother was also born on a 22 February. That way they could save money by sharing a birthday cake. ―Mandruss  17:01, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling of program

Can someone please correct the spelling, as the correct Australian spelling is “program” not the British spelling “programme.” 2001:8003:4037:8E00:D8D8:7513:C1AA:C5AA (talk) 02:23, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth

According to australiazoo.com.au and crocodilehunter.com.au, Steve Irwin was born in Upper Ferntree Gully, Victoria. However, other sources (including Britannica.com) cite his birthplace as Essendon. —Jonny Nixon (talk) 07:30, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Steve Irwin was born at The Angliss hospital in Upper Ferntree Gully. Where he grew up before moving North is unclear, however it would make sense that he was in the Ferntree Gully area as opposed to the Essendon area given Ferntree Gully in the 60s was (and still is) very much an area with a lot of forestry and wildlife meanwhile Essendon is very urban. PETA

Should the PETA controversy from last year be added into the controversy section of the article? I think it’s notable, especially since PETA also came after his son and continued for a few months. But, PETA’s been quiet about it since Jimmy Fallon stopped showing live animals and they’ve since deleted some of the harsher tweets. So, I’m not sure if it should be added, but I’d like to hear what others think anyway. Bencutiostan (talk) 22:19, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ocean's Deadliest

The article incorrectly asserts that there is no mention of Steve Irwin's death in Ocean's Deadliest, Steve's last documentary. However, the film does contain a still image stating "In memory of Steve Irwin", a reference to his passing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unreasonableperson (talkcontribs) 21:34, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

His Injury

Although many sources state that the barb pierced his heart, there's no heart injury in his autopsy. Sometimes when a person gets injured in the chest, people may speak too much and assume it was in the heart organ. Also, he died not just from blood loss it was because of the stingray's venom.
