St. Louis and barbecue: myth or reality?

I spent two days in St. Louis in 2002 trying in vain to find some "St. Louis style barbecue". Wikipedia has an article under that very title states "These foods are popular in the area around the United States city of St. Louis, Missouri", which I guess is technically true in that it says "the area AROUND" and not "in the city of St. Louis." After relating my inability to find BBQ in St.L to a native of that city, she told me that St.L was famous for its Italian food and she'd never in her life heard of "St. Louis style" barbecue.

I was wondering if there are some St. Louis natives out there who can clarify this, because currently Wikipedia has an article on what I believe to be a myth or urban legend, i.e., the spurious belief that there is any notable barbecue culture within the city of St. Louis. • As a native of St. Louis, I can assert that there is actually a category of barbeque I would refer to as "St. Louis-style", albeit a relatively narrow style. As the article[1] in question mentions, barbeque pork steaks simmered in sauce for a (very) long amount of time are very popular in St. Louis, but I've never seen them anywhere else. This is obviously just anecdotal, so anyone who has seen slow-simmered bbq pork steaks in other locations is welcome to correct me.--Vicjm 18:22, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
  • BBQ is a Kansas City thing. St. Louis may have the Arch, good baseball, Anheuser Busch, etc, but leave the BBQ to Kansas City. That's one of the two things that we know how to do right. BBQ and the Mafia. :-) mobyrock 21:06, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

U.S. County Infobox

Most counties in Missouri are missing the {{Infobox U.S. County}} template. /Timneu22 01:50, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

I've updated the article last night with a number of inline citations, and I've also started on ensuring that all fair use images used there have valid fair use rationale. Any other editors here wanna jump in too? Slambo (Speak) 13:03, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

As noted above, I've been working on ensuring that this article is up to current FA standards. Slambo (Speak) 19:04, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

I just submitted a DYK suggestion on this article and there is a good chance that this Missouri related topic will appear on the front page. I'd like to see the article expanded a little more, particularly in the area of climate and viticulture but I'm running into a roadblock when it comes to finding reliable sources on the subject. Any help from the Missouri project would be appreciated. Thanks!AgneCheese/Wine 19:27, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

It has been stated that the article can be in featured article review. But, there's some problems with the references about his personal life. Any opinions if the article should stay at the rate it is?  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 17:50, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Riverboat Gambling

Riverboat Gambling isn't mentioned. Why? 129.41.227.162 13:20, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

I agree that it should be, but the Riverboat gambling page is currently in pretty poor shape. We need better sources so that we can expand it. --Elonka 17:57, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

I've added the Wikiproject Missouri tag to the talk page of Riverboat gambling, so hopefully it will be improved some. Grey Wanderer | Talk 00:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Can someone check edits to St. Louis Metrolink station articles made by User:12.74.157.98? I'm not familiar with St. Louis, but this user, whom I'm assuming is a novice, made a few edits that have turned out to not be correct. Another user and I have fixed some of the more obvious errors, but I'd rather see someone familiar with St. Louis fix the less obvious ones, if they also are erroneous. See Special:Contributions/12.74.157.98 for the user's contributions. dhett (talk contribs) 03:24, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Looks like all of them have been reverted. The user seemed to also insert their signature with each edit, so they might have been reverted because of that, but not because of erroneous info. Grey Wanderer | Talk 04:05, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Help with article requested

Could someone please take a look at the Bertrand MO article. I have tried to add in an image of the city watertower, but I can not seem to get the image in a good position on the page. I am relatively new to editing pages and haven't fully gotten how to make all this work yet. Knowledgeum 07:08, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi, and welcome, I looked at the Bertrand, Missouri article, cleaned it up a bit, and tried to put the picture in a proper location. Good luck with future edits! Grey Wanderer | Talk 00:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks so much, looks great. I picked apart your edit and I think I atleast understand how to make an image justify left from now on. Knowledgeum 03:01, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

City WikiProjects

Just wanted to let people know about the creation of WikiProject St. Louis. Between that project and WikiProject Kansas City and WikiProject Columbia editors have plenty of options.Grey Wanderer | Talk 21:25, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
