Hi! This is my talk page, feel free to drop me a message. To experienced editors: feel free to stalk my talk page and reply to any threads here.To admins: I prefer that my talk page remain unprotected, even if it's being vandalized. Such edits do not particularly bother me and I prefer to remain accessible to anyone who would like to reach me. However, if the volume of vandalism is so high that no other solution would stop disruption, I don't mind if my talk page is semi-protected for a day or two. Hopefully, this is a rare occurrence.

Just curious... (to talkpage stalkers)

Who are my 42 talkpage stalkers? Feel free to drop a reply or just click the "thank" button on this edit if you want to be less conspicuous, I'm just very curious. Thanks all (and thanks for watching :3)! Elli (talk | contribs) 01:28, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Gwhitlow (09:32, 31 August 2021)

hi --Gwhitlow (talk) 09:32, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gwhitlow: hi! Do you have any questions about how to use/help with Wikipedia? Elli (talk | contribs) 15:31, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Gwhitlow on User talk:Elli (06:40, 1 September 2021)

I have an article to submit, already edited and submitted to Wikipedia editors, but I have no idea if I submitted it properly. Each time I check, it still requests to submit for review (blue box), which I thought I had already done. It's all of two paragraphs. --Gwhitlow (talk) 06:40, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gwhitlow: you need to press the "submit" button, then scroll down and press the blue "Publish changes" button. When you do that, the draft will be submitted for review.
Additionally, looking at your draft, it likely won't get accepted as you have not cited any sources. It's necessary to cite sources so all content in Wikipedia is verifiable. Can I recommend that you check out Wikipedia:Citing sources for information on the policy, and Help:Referencing for beginners to get you started? If you need any help with that, I can assist, of course. Elli (talk | contribs) 07:03, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Gwhitlow on Draft:Gordon H. Whitlow (08:04, 1 September 2021)

Thank you, Elli. A bit confused, because when I do submit for review, the next thing I see is a large template page with many down arrows inside but none of my text. Below this it has the blue box "Publish changes". Now, I had received two acknowledgments ("Your notices") stating I had made my first edit and the other welcoming me to Wikipedia, so perhaps it is already under review. As for citations, there are several available, including existing Wiki pages created by others. --Gwhitlow (talk) 08:04, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gwhitlow: the draft isn't submitted for review yet. You need to actually click "Publish changes", or else it won't be submitted. The UI for this isn't the best, but your draft will still be there, even though it doesn't show up in the box - just click the publish button and you'll see.
As for sources, you need to edit your draft to include them. I'd recommend doing that before submitting for review, but it's up to you. Elli (talk | contribs) 08:06, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Gwhitlow on User talk:Elli (08:09, 1 September 2021)

Thanks. Do I place the sources as URLs directly in the Publish box? I can easily do that. --Gwhitlow (talk) 08:09, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gwhitlow: no - they go along with the article text. I strongly recommend reading Help:Referencing for beginners, it should be able to help you. Click the edit button on your draft, then click the "Cite" button from the toolbar, pick the type of citation you want, fill in the details, then add it. Save the page by pressing "publish changes". Elli (talk | contribs) 08:12, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Gwhitlow on Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout (08:42, 1 September 2021)

I have added 6 references. After selecting "Publish changes", I received the following message: Draft article not currently submitted for review. This is a draft Articles for creation (AfC) submission. It is not currently pending review.", and another blue box below to "Submit the draft for review". Do I need to again submit for review? --Gwhitlow (talk) 08:42, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gwhitlow: it looks like you eventually submitted it and it was declined - you need to improve the sources. significant coverage in reliable sources is what's necessary to show notability. Elli (talk | contribs) 12:46, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Gwhitlow on User talk:Elli (14:30, 1 September 2021)

I attempted to strengthen it with some published articles, etc., but I think I will need to change some of the citations to footnotes, as I think Fade was suggesting. --Gwhitlow (talk) 14:30, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gwhitlow: yes, I'd recommend that. Elli (talk | contribs) 14:36, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

CCI update

CCI complete

Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Ardfern is now complete. Thank you for your assistance in the evaluation of this CCI!

Thank you for your final work on Ardfern, it was appreciated especially as the case winded down. I look forward to seeing you here again. Every bit that you do helps. Sennecaster (Chat) 12:29, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know how to use Lua, so this is the next best thing. I am hoping I could integrate this into {{Canada NTS Map Sheet}}, to automatically add names to NTS map sheet references. -- Denelson83 05:39, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Denelson83: ah, thanks for the info. Would you like me to try to help with that? Elli (talk | contribs) 05:41, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Give it a try. I am hoping WikiProject Canada could also use this, as a possible source of ideas for new articles. I have noticed a ton of those names are red links. -- Denelson83 05:43, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Denelson83: do you think all of these are notable? Still unsure exactly how this site works, though it looks interesting. Elli (talk | contribs) 05:46, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure. Maybe some of them are. -- Denelson83 05:47, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to butt in I just wanted to note that the relevant guideline is WP:GEOLAND: "Named natural features are often notable, provided information beyond statistics and coordinates is known to exist. This includes mountains, lakes, streams, islands, etc. The number of known sources should be considered to ensure there is enough verifiable content for an encyclopedic article." This is a form of WP:GNG. Hope this helps. Volcanoguy 01:34, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Myeko Miso (15:10, 5 September 2021)

Good day i would like to know how to insert my information so that if people are searching for me they can find me easly --Myeko Miso (talk) 15:10, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Myeko Miso: hi, I'm not quite sure what you're asking. If you want a Wikipedia page about you, I would recommend against it, the relevant guideline strongly discourages writing about yourself.
If you'd like to create a user page to help with collaboration with others, just go to User:Myeko Miso and start editing.
Hope that helps! Feel free to ask any further questions. Elli (talk | contribs) 00:44, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

About my DYK nomination Lyduvėnai

Hello, I just wanted to tell you that I have the link to the source, I was just unsure how to put it in there - the link is this. My DYK nomination is here. --Cukrakalnis (talk) 08:36, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

Hello, Elli,

Thank you for tagging all of those hoax articles. I vaguely remember encountering this editor before, they created a lot of articles on American Horror Story seasons that hadn't aired yet. Have you run into them before, do they always edit as an IP or are they a blocked editor? Thanks again. Liz Read! Talk! 04:43, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: not sure - the first I saw of them was your mention of them on PMC's talkpage. I looked at their contributions and everything seemed to be a hoax, so tagged them. Thanks for deleting! Elli (talk | contribs) 04:44, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looking into them more closely, I see that some of these pages I deleted before in July 2021. It's an IP editor from Elk River, Minnesota and, in fact, yesterday we deleted a whole bunch of other articles they created about nonexistent TV series. But they seem to switch IP accounts with every other edit. NinjaRobotPirate created a range-block yesterday but we'll see if that stops them. Liz Read! Talk! 04:50, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Liz: hopefully. I checked the whole /64... but in seeing that it looked like they'd edited some pages created by a different range... and that looks like another rabbit hole of hoax drafts (though some looked legitimate? what a mess) Elli (talk | contribs) 04:52, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rcat standardization

Hey! I was wondering where are you at with your User:Elli/rcat standardization project. I was researching something related to see how section ids and anchor ids are generated and it would seem that by checking the target ID, the template can determine if the target is a section ({{R to section}}) or anchor ({{R to anchor}}). DYK for The Presidential Vote, 1896–1932

On 12 September 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Presidential Vote, 1896–1932, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that as documented in The Presidential Vote, 1896–1932, fewer than a quarter of the United States' counties voted for the same party in every presidential election from 1896 to 1932? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The Presidential Vote, 1896–1932. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, The Presidential Vote, 1896–1932), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello Elli,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here. Sent to 827 users. 04:31, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Vandolizm

Someone vandalized on Georgia's senate election 2020 (Raphael Warnock and Kelly Loeffler) i tried reverting it but its too much. Can you help? also he vandalized the one With David Perdue and Jon Ossoff, but i could fix that one. Trenton 1214 (talk) 22:07, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Trenton 1214: I'm not seeing any vandalism on the page. Elli (talk | contribs) 22:24, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Trenton 1214: I did notice a major change to the infobox - I undid that, but it was not vandalism. Elli (talk | contribs) 22:25, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

His name is Glide08, and he removed run-off election votes Trenton 1214 (talk) 22:25, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Trenton 1214: yeah, edit-conflicted. That edit was not vandalism, it looks to be clearly made in good-faith. Elli (talk | contribs) 22:26, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanks Trenton 1214 (talk) 22:26, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Editing

Also sorry about what happened on the recall page. I was trying to add John H. Cox, but I realized that it removed the whole first part of the article. So I tried to reverse it. But you already did it. Trenton 1214 (talk) 22:32, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I saw John H. Cox on the Washington post. So I got my information from there Trenton 1214 (talk) 22:33, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Trenton 1214: no worries. You inserted nowiki tags for some reason. Also, generally candidates shouldn't be in an infobox unless they got >5% per a long-standing consensus at WikiProject Elections and Referendums. Elli (talk | contribs) 22:34, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oh ok Trenton 1214 (talk) 22:35, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Trenton 1214: yeah. There are lots of weird somewhat-documented consensuses - feel free to ask if you have any questions. Elli (talk | contribs) 22:36, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok will do. Trenton 1214 (talk) 22:37, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question from LibrarianAtLarge (22:28, 18 September 2021)

Hi, Elli: I created an article for an individual who I thought merited one. This person already had a redirect page. Should have done something with the redirect page rather than creating an entirely new article? I've included links below. Thanks very much for your help. Melissa

REDIRECT PAGE: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Josh_Kiszka&redirect=no

MY ARTICLE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Josh_Kiszka --LibrarianAtLarge (talk) 22:28, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(Talk page enjoyer) Hi LibrarianAtLarge! What you've done here is entirely okay – because your article is a draft waiting to be reviewed, we want the redirect to stay there so that people will be redirected to Greta Van Fleet until there is a mainspace article about Josh Kiszka. If/when your draft is moved to mainspace, it will replace the redirect. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 23:27, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@LibrarianAtLarge: hi - ezlev's answer here is right - just wait for a review and if accepted the draft will be moved over the redirect. If you have any more questions feel free to ask me! Elli (talk | contribs) 00:58, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much! --LibrarianAtLarge (talk) 17:49, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

PRODS

Hello, Elli,

Could you pace yourself on tagging articles as PRODs? Right now, there are 137 tagged PRODs expiring next Monday and they each have to be evaluated by an admin. There are only two or three admins who regularly patrol these categories every day and there are typically only 15-30 PRODs expiring each day so this is a big increase. If there are any more pages to tag, please wait a day to do the remainder. Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 19:29, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: thanks for the message - I was PRODing very similar articles by the same user, so I figured it shouldn't be too much trouble for each of them to be evaluated. I was divided between this and doing a mass AfD, but as I felt the AfD would be unlikely to be contested, I chose to PROD (also, mass AfD isn't really a great procedure to start with). I've tagged about a third of the articles, I think, and I'll be happy to wait for a day to tag the rest (and probably split over the next few days) if that would make things easier. Sorry for any inconvenience! Elli (talk | contribs) 19:32, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rhode island turnout

Hello, I hope you are having a great day. I have a quick question about RI. 2020 presidential turnout. Is the turnout supposed to have 7.4pp after the arrow to show you an increase from 2016 election turnout? Because the 2016 election had that for the 2012 election. RonMcDonald721 (talk) 22:53, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@RonMcDonald721: that seems appropriate. Also, the turnout should probably have a source, currently it isn't sourced anywhere in the article. Elli (talk | contribs) 22:57, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thank you. I just wanted to know because it didn't look normal RonMcDonald721 (talk) 23:01, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, so I added 7.6pp, but I'm not going to put a source down because I don't know where to get one. RonMcDonald721 (talk) 23:10, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
