Joining on a whim and a donation.

So... joined on a whim. After donating, I saw the link to login. I recently re-activated my slashdot login. I generally hate logging into things --- it's so utterly useless, but I suppose wikipedia is a bit different. I keep a copy of wikipedia on local media in case of the Zombie apocalypse. Too much share? Well... even though I don't have much, I've decided to donate to a few things. Timeghost and Wikipedia are now two.

So, what's my thinking? I haven't had the itch to edit something on Wikipedia. I'm more likely to be spell checked than to spell check. My barest and most obvious thinking was that if I was a member with some history and I identified something that is important to me, I'd have more success than without some org history.

Urm... I'm Canadian, I run a small tech business, I'd like to make a game in C++ and lately I've been into D&D and 3D printing stuff --- on a 3D printer I made from scratch.

I have a fairly addictive personality, so if you have some tasks to fob off on me ... I don't have too much occupying my time between now and new years besides some video games.

(oh, and ZBeeble is the username a university might assign Zaphod Beeblebrox in the early 90's ... two heads are better than one.)

Hi ZBeeble and welcome to Wikipedia! As of areas you can help out, there are a load of tasks you can do at the task center. I wouldn't create a new article yet, and I'd say that's one of the more difficult areas of editing here. I am fairly active in "anti-vandalism" here, reverting bad edits that are made to pages... but that is just one of the tasks on the page. It all depends on what looks more right for you. I noticed there are locked and uneditable pages on Wiki. I was surprised by that. As a financial donor to Wiki, my donations are predicated upon the free, resource-driven, editable pages that Wiki hosts, but this new information has enlightened me to that being a false understanding on my part. Can someone explain why some pages are locked? How would one present factual resources to an article if the page is locked, or to prevent mis-information about a subject or person? This gives an impression, possibly falsely, that there is an agenda for this forum and not a true disseminator of knowledge as it offers itself up to be. Hello FatMSPguy22. These pages have been protected, usually to prevent vandalism from newer editors. Protection is only used when absolutely necessary, when there has been lots of vandalism on a page, and sometimes for other reasons too. When you get to 10 edits, you will be able to edit semi-protected pages (grey padlock) and when you get to 500 edits, you will be able to edit extended-confirmed pages (blue padlock). Please don't let protected pages discourage you from editing. If you wish to edit a protected page and are unable to, please use the Edit Request Wizard to make a request for another editor to make the edit for you. There are reliable sources such as [1] that show she is 26 years old, but there are no reliable sources available showing she is 23. You can see in our verifiability policy that adding these reliable sources to prove her age is mandatory. Hi Ferien! Thanks for mentoring. I had a question in regards to knowing when and whether to delete a page. For example, I came across https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Structural_Equations_with_Latent_Variables, which contains a Review section and more. It doesn't like this textbook is very important or relevant to have its own Wikipedia page. What scenarios would justify deleting a page? Should I create a discussion post for this on the page? Hi Semanticing and welcome to Wikipedia! There are a few different processes for deleting articles: Speedy deletion, Proposed deletion (PROD) and Articles for deletion (AfD). For this article, you could nominate the article for proposed deletion, with the reason that it fails notability guidelines – I agree with you that it is not notable, and it appears to fail the general notability guideline and the notability guideline for books. Please follow the steps at WP:PROD to do this. If no-one objects to your proposal to delete the article, the article will be deleted after 7 days. If someone objects to it and removes the PROD tag for any reason, the article may not be deleted through PROD and instead it must go to AfD for further discussion.
