Is it possible or not?
Hello to all of you, nice people of Wikipedia. I would like to know if I can get an autograph or any memorabilia for my birthday from a little known actor from Canada. He's a really unknown actor to most but his acting changed my life. Should I contact his agents or his agency with my request? And lastly, how to request it formally in English language without sounding like a stalker, of whom the world of entertainment suffers so much? Thank you very much.
PS: I don't intend to have any form of direct contact with him, perhaps only something sent by his agency as you receive a postcard when you send a letter to the White House. Thank you. 190.246.97.81 (talk) 14:40, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
- Starting with the agency seems like a good bet - and an un-stalkery kind of thing to do, so bonus points there. I'm not sure how easy it is to find what agency someone uses; I think IMDb has a paid subscription "pro" level that includes stuff like that, but you could just start with Google. As far as the language goes, your own words will work better than what we can come up with, but try to be brief. A line or two about your connection to him ("I really admired your portrayal of...") and then politely make your request. If there's something specific you want, ask for it specifically ("I'd love to get an autographed photo of you from..."). Don't make him guess or try to read between the lines. Besides any charge he or the agency might have, you'll definitely have to pay for any kind of postage or shipping, which may get complicated, so I'd suggest going for something that can be mailed (i.e. photo/paper) and state up front that you'll be happy to compensate for expenses. - As long as you have a credit card you can get a free trial of IMDb Pro. Just cancel once you're done if you want to avoid paying for it. I would agree with Bugs that a little-known actor would appreciate much more attention, and some low-level celebrities do occasionally put their direct contact information on IMDb Pro. IMHO, IMDB Pro should be included with the Wikipedia Library. InvadingInvader (userpage, talk) 02:26, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
- The content of IMDb is largely user-generated. For that reason it is not an acceptable source of content, so there is no point in including it. --Lambiam 20:38, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

- If the actor is little known, they might appreciate the attention. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 02:33, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

Quality of grid in cryptic crosswords
In this interview with a crossword setter, one of his early efforts is described as “the grid’s awful but the clues are good”. What constitutes an "awful grid"? Is it just a lack of 'checked' letters, as implied by the last paragraph of Cryptic_crossword#Grids_for_cryptic_crosswords, or is there more to it than that? AlmostReadytoFly (talk) 13:53, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
- The thing that seems strikingly bad to me in the grid is that so many of the unchecked letters are in consecutive groups of two or three. That'll make it kind of hard on the solver. --174.89.12.187 (talk) 06:47, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Highest grossing nightclubs in the United States by revenue, post 2015
Hi there; as part of my research for a draft article on Temple nightclub in San Francisco, the facility came in as the 24th highest grossing nightclub in the United States in 2015. This is the last year I have been able to find statistics on Temple's revenue. Would you all be able to help me find newer statistics on the highest grossing nightclubs in the US, preferably as close to the present day as possible? Thanks, InvadingInvader (userpage, talk) 02:23, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

Buffy's fire
I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992), long after watching (at least twice) the series of the same name. In the premiere (1997) of the latter, Buffy explains that she had to burn down the gymnasium at her previous school because "it was full of vamp——asbestos." Somewhere I have read that the movie is ambiguous about whether Buffy intentionally started the fire.
So imagine my surprise when the movie ends with no fire at all, darn it. Have I misremembered something (again)? —Tamfang (talk) 01:55, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- As Buffy the Vampire Slayer (film)#Television explains, the finished film deviated significantly from Joss Weedon's original screenplay, and the TV series is intentionally not a faithful sequel to the film, deliberately contradicting it in many backstory details: ". . . Whedon wrote the pilot to the TV series as a sequel to his original script, which is why the TV series makes references to events that did not occur in the film". {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.19} 90.213.18.208 (talk) 07:20, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- Ah thanks. I came back to delete this question as unlikely to get a meaningful response! —Tamfang (talk) 11:22, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- The burning happens in "Graduation Day, Part Two", the season finale of the third season of the television series, which aired in 1999. The reference in the 1997 series premiere is a flashforward. --Lambiam 08:21, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks but I don't buy that Buffy's account of burning a gymnasium full of vampires (or asbestos) at Hemery High in Los Angeles refers only to blowing up a library with ANFO to kill one giant demon in Sunnydale. It's a better match to "Some Assembly Required" (ep 2:2); in the next episode she obliquely admits to having done it more than once. —Tamfang (talk) 11:43, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
