It resulted in the Progressive Conservative Party winning the largest majority government in Canadian history. -- Uh.... the same thing (largest majority government) is also said in the Canadian federal election, 1958 article. Majromax 20:05, 11 May 2005 (UTC)

Largest at the time. 1958 was THEN the largest majority. Mulroney passed it in 1984.Habsfannova 05:06, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

But was Mulroney's majority really bigger than Diefenbaker's? It's true he got 3 more seats than Dief but in 1984 there were 17 more seats total than there were in '58 making Diefenbaker's majority bigger percentage-wise.--Lairor 14:17, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

1993 edit

I suppose that this revert of my edit, with its laconic edit summary, needs an explanation before I revert the revert.

• First of all, my edit included a valuable link[1] to the 1993 election, which was being referenced. This alone, in my opinion, makes the revert seem careless, and warrants my reversion.
• However, I suspect that this was not the reason that the fine editor reverted me. I suspect it had to do with the wording I employed, including the use of "themselves". Let me explain further:

The previous wording was as follows: . . . the Liberals suffered the worst defeat at the time for a governing party at the federal level. Only the Progressive Conservatives would face a larger defeat in 1993. I simply found this wording a bit wanting. For one thing, to me anyway, it seems to be a bit of obvious irony that the party that, in 1984, provided the worst drubbing of all time, would then, only nine years later, see their achievement eclipsed and to themselves be the victims of that eclipsation [I hereby provide free license to anyone wishing to make use of that newly coined word]. If a greater electoral defeat had been suffered in 1993 by, say, the NDP, then I would be largely okay with the wording and would not have made the change.

It's quite possible for me to believe that my point is impossible for others to see. It's even more believable that someone could word it better than it was with either my edit or the previous edit. In the spirit of Wikipedia, I'll leave it alone for now and wait for some other opinions before making any further changes. 98.71.218.201 (talk) 16:54, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

What you wrote: "...would face a larger defeat, that coming in 1993." Which doesn't make sense. It sounds like you tried to say "that coming election in 1993." Which is incorrect, the next election after 1984 was 1988. 117Avenue (talk) 17:32, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
