When I say there was no "California Republic", I mean that although a small group of rebels declared a "California Republic", no further effort was made to actually establish any kind of independent state. There was no constitution, no legislature, no president, no laws, no borders - only a flag. A hoax? No, but the article is misleading (BTW - a newspaper article that mentions the "California Republic" is not evidence of anything). Besides, 1846 has nothing to do with Alvarado, Castro and their coup of 1836. Alvarado's group got further than the 1836 "Bear Flag" revolt, by writing a constitution and declaring Castro president. Again, however, there was never any establishment of an independent government. The coup ended peacefully the next year, with Alvarado acknowledging Mexican authority and becoming the governor appointed by the central government of Mexico. I stand by what I said above, which does not contradict the California Republic article (in its current form). That article makes it clear that there was never an independent California with its own government, elected officials, etc. If you look back through the 'California Republic' edit history, you will find the same sort of "independent California" claims that plague this article and others relating to the 1836-1846 years. Thanks to Guy Macon for starting a dialog on this subject at Wikipedia:Fringe_theories/Noticeboard#Help_needed_with_pseudohistorical_woo. WCCasey (talk) 05:37, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
To be reported to Wikipedia administrators: I'm compiling a list of editors/IP addresses that have posted false California history, and tend to give bogus reasons for doing so. WCCasey (talk) 00:55, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
