Failed Good Article

[edit]

The does not need a separate article. I requested a merge. joturner 22:30, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agreed with joturner. --Suryasuharman 04:58, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hate to break out the systemic bias argument because it's way overused, IMO, but if the House of Representatives of Antigua and Barbuda or New Zealand House of Representatives get their own articles, why can't the lower house of the Malaysian Parliament? If the argument is that most of the information is already in Parliament of Malaysia, well, in the future this article will need to be broken out again, making this a rather pointless merge, IMO. Johnleemk | Talk 10:43, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The idea of separate houses in the real Parliament of Malaysia was obviously derived from the one in Westminster. But the Federal character of this Nation was decided to feature prominently in the Dewan Negara not only to safeguard the interest of the states (negeri-negeri) but also to allow their participation in governing the whole nation (hence the word Negara). Unfortunately that did not happen thanks to long standing one party rule, which also happened to rule the states as well. People just used to this and they suddenly can't quite see the different. From my POV we either dissect the article on Parliament and gave the parts to articles on both houses, or merge articles on both houses into the one on the parliament. Luckily current political climate in Malaysia will not permeate in reality the merge of both houses into one, so I suggest why should not stick to current one. Enrich articles on both houses, while leave the article on the Parliament as a feeder, portal or anything wth the same function. --Tikar aurum (talk) 06:56, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know...

[edit]

From the main page "...that the Dewan Rakyat is prohibited from discussing the repeal of certain articles of the Constitution of Malaysia?"

I seriously doubt the validity of this statement. If it's true, then why isnt it in the article? KI 21:42, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Under the Act, all public discussion of repealing certain Articles of the Constitution dealing with Bumiputra privileges such as Article 153 is illegal. This prohibition is extended to all members of both houses of Parliament." It's been there for a while already -- certainly before this made it to DYK. How is the size of the dewan Rakyat determined?

[edit]

How the size of the Dewan Rakyat is determined isn't in the article. Someone should include it. --Novelty 08:42, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dewan Rakyat in English

[edit]

Here the word Representatives is used. Can someone tell me why? Since the Dewan Rakyat was obviously a copy of the British House of Commons I believe the word Commons is more suitable. Commons=Subject=People=Rakyat. And Representatives means Perwakilan in Malaysian --Tikar aurum (talk) 06:56, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because '"House of Representatives" is not a direct translation of Dewan Rakyat. Both names were drawn up as the English & Malay names of the same body respectively when Malaysia's Constitution was written in the 1950s. - Yk (talk) 07:05, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Errata: Kita has one seat

[edit]

Like it or not folks, Kita has one seat in form of Tan Tee Beng. Can this be reflected in the box? Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Silencer666 (talkcontribs) 05:13, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article name

[edit]

NWill moved page "Dewan Rakyat" to "House of Representatives (Malaysia)" without discussion. Do the regular editors of this article agree or disagree with this move? If there is agreement for the move, then I suggest a further move to "House of Representatives of Malaysia" so the the article name can be linked without piping. If editors prefer the original name, it should be moved back. Ground Zero | t 17:48, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well it was plainly not a case for unilateral move. I'll move it back pending a requested move where it can be discussed. --Mkativerata (talk) 23:49, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Seats; MP Hantu?

[edit]

I've counted the seats listed and the final tally comes to 215 seats as of 1:36 am, 17th December 2018.

The Lower House is missing 7 whole seats, meaning they are not attributed to any coalition or party.

Political Crisis and "Frog" MPs

[edit]

Since PN took over the goverment. Some PH Leaders and MPs are trying to take down the goverment by using their Social Media or eles talk about SD/MP issue. I would Suggest everyone should read from Bersatu Official. Please don't get fooled by Cybertropper PH. They are really evil of propaganda. If you don't trust me. Just go to the Bersatu,UMNO or MP PN's Official Account or Any Parliament of Malaysia Website for sure. Mr. Samerkov (talk) 10:17, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Status of Former PKR's MP

[edit]

It was recently revealed by YB Zuraida that their application into Bersatu is still pending. Hence I believe all 10 of them shouldn't be included as part of Bersatu but just part of Independent supporting the government.
