Issues
[edit]There's a problem with the table autosort in that it will sort the numerical values according the first digit, not the total (so we'll have a "sorted" list of 1,000,000, 234, 3,456, 4, 5,600,797, 65, etc etc). Not sure how that's addressed.
Where are these figures sourced from? We need to make this clearer, even if it's in the lead. -- Jza84 · (talk) 20:46, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- True about the sorting of figures, looks like we can't use commas :(. Also the excel sheets that the usage figures are from can be found here http://www.rail-reg.gov.uk/server/show/nav.1529, dunno what method to use to display them as references? └and-rew┘┌talk┐ 20:58, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- I've put in a ref for the ORR figures. The West Midlands stations list used one link to the "front page" from which the individual Excel files can be downloaded, rather than creating threee different refs for the three Excel files, so I've just copied and pasted. I found the same glitch with the number sorting, but found that if you click again (either once or twice), it will sort correctly (i.e. by total rather than by first digit). - Unless things have changed in recent years, I believe Swinton station has 2 platforms! Hope that helps! -- Jza84 · (talk) 20:40, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Cool. I thought it probably had, as that line is double-track, but I couldn't find any photos or references to make myself confident enough to put it in. To be honest, I think all the others I have left blank have 2 as well... Hassocks5489 (talk) 22:19, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

With regards to the usage figures sorting, it works if you press the sort button 4 times, not sure why? └and-rew┘┌talk┐ 12:46, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- Me neither. Seems odd. I wonder if that'd be a barrier to acheiving something like WP:FL status?
- I was wondering however if the East Lancashire Railway ought to be given special mention in the lead, it being a heritage railway?
- Also wanted to leave a note too that we have Category:Railway stations in Greater Manchester at WikiCommons full of images. Follow this hyperlink. Hope that helps, :) -- Jza84 · (talk) 12:41, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- Oh good, thanks for pointing that category out; I'll try and add the category tag to my pix this weekend so they are included as well. Hassocks5489 (talk) 18:13, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Usage Figures
[edit]Whilst we have the 2005/06 data in the table, the figures listed on the individual station pages are the older 2004/05 ones. Any particular reason for this, or is it just a case of getting round to updating the individual pages? paypwip (talk) 09:27, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- Just that nobody has bothered to update the station articles yet, bit of a tedious job. ┌Joshii┐└chat┘ 12:53, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I've started updating them. paypwip (talk) 12:38, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- I've started going through alphabetically, swapping 04/05 figures for 05/06 figures in the infobox, then I've come across a couple of stations that already have the 05/06 figures in addition to the older figures. Before I go any further, can we have a consensus on whether we should have both 04/05 and 05/06 figures, or should we show only the latest figures. My personal view is for the latter. paypwip (talk) 21:26, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not bothered either way, there is a mix of both options around all stations on Wiki so it doesn't really matter. ┌Joshii┐└chat┘ 21:45, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
FL status?
[edit]Wasn't there a plan to take this article to WP:FL status? --Jza84 | Talk 16:49, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes. It will take some time to find out the years of opening for the stations though. ┌Joshii┐└chat┘ 21:47, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
No entry for this? Or is it because its a historical railway? Parrot of Doom (talk) 22:43, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
2006/07
[edit]I just noticed the new figures have been added. I think a note needs to be added somewhere to explain why some stations have plummeted and some have shot up. Incase anybody doesn't know it is due to the new computer system used which is supposed to stop the problems caused by station grouping e.g. Piccadilly and Victoria. Previously all trains to "Manchester Stns" would be added to Piccadilly and now they are estimated between the others. I'm not sure how a note could be worded as it is a little confusing. ┌Joshii┐└chat┘ 01:38, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, it's the old station groups issue. The problem is finding a reference; I hope there might be one buried in the ORR website somewhere. It hasn't really been covered in the Transport Ticket Society Journal, which is the obvious place I would turn to :) ... I'll investigate. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 22:09, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- Aha - found it! This is the report accompanying the station usage figures spreadsheet. No time to add text and ref to article now, but I'll pick this up tomorrow. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 22:25, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
List seems to be out of date
[edit]The stats are for 2009/2008 - is there an easy way to update the list for 2013/2014 stats without copying hundreds of numbers individually from the SRA website? Smurrayinchester 09:11, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

Direct link between Piccadilly and Victoria for the first time?
[edit]Regarding the text creating a direct link between Piccadilly and Victoria for the first time
added by ChiZeroOne (talk · contribs), a link did exist in the past - to the east of the city. Just to the east of Miles Platting station, on the line to Ashton-under-Lyne, there was a former Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway branch of just under two miles length to Ardwick where a junction faced Piccadilly (then known as London Road), about half a mile out from that terminus. This junction was just to the north-west of the present junction at Ardwick for the Glossop line. The branch from Miles Platting to Ardwick was opened for goods in 1848 and to passengers in 1852, but had closed by 1970. It was definitely used by passenger trains between London Road and Victoria from 1902. See the RCH Junction Diagram no. 47 of 1910. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:17, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Mea culpa, I've removed the part about it being the first. ChiZeroOne (talk) 21:42, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
